Summer 2006 in Esholt village I captured a picture of this man whom I've always known as the 'Mad Monk' Probable unfair and unjustified to call him mad though.
The next pic I took I asked his permission.

A monk in the quiet Sera Monastery.
Out of 4 key monasteries around Lhasa it was the only one open at the time. The monks of the other 3 were receiving "education" from Chinese authorities following the uprisings in March.
The main debating hall which Sera was famed for is also closed.

2015.07 China, Larung Gar
In 1980, Khenpo Jigme Phuntsok founded the Larung Five Sciences Buddhist Academy (喇荣五明佛学院), in the Larung Valley (喇荣沟) near the town of Sêrtar, Garzê Prefecture, Sichuan Province. The purpose of the Institute has been to provide an ecumenical training in Tibetan Buddhism and to meet the need for renewal of meditation and scholarship all over Tibet in the wake of China’s Cultural Revolution of 1966-76.[3]
Despite its remote location, it grew from a handful of disciples gathering in Khenpo's home to be one of the largest and most influential centers for the study of Tibetan Buddhism in the world, numbering to nearly 10,000 monks, nuns, and lay disciples by the year 2000

Monk boots outside the main prayer hall in Labrang.
Located in southern Gansu on the edge of the Tibetan Plateau, Labrang is one of the largest and most important monasteries in Tibetan Buddhism. Its Living Buddha or "Gegen" ranks third in importance behind the Dalai Lama and Panchen Lama. The monastery was largely destroyed during the Great Leap Forward and Cultural Revolution, but since the 1980s monks have meticulously rebuilt and restored its temples, prayer halls, stupas and residences.

No this isn't a bird you would typically find visiting your back yard feeder in North Texas ~ however if you happen to live south of Fort Worth near the intersection of Boyce and 6th Avenue or near White Rock lake in Dallas ~ it might be more common than you think.
Monk Parakeets (Myiopsitta monachus) are a native of temperate South America. The average adult size is 11.5" (bill to tail, tip to tip) and both sexes have bright green backs, dark blue under wings and extensive gray on the face and breast. Considerable numbers of Monk Parakeet were imported to the United States in the late 1960s as pets. Many escaped or were intentionally released, and populations were allowed to proliferate. By the early 1970s, M. monachus was established in seven states, and by 1995 it had spread to eight more. There are now thought to be approximately 100,000 in Florida alone.
The Fort Worth colony began with a single pair in 1985. Now several dozen large, bright green, pointed-tailed parakeets live in giant stick nests, resembling bird condos, in several trees near the original location. The Monk Parakeet is the only parrot that builds a stick nest, in a tree or on a man-made structure, rather than using a hole in a tree. They often breed colonially, building a single large nest with separate entrances for each pair. In the wild, the colonies can become quite large, with pairs occupying separate "apartments" in nests that can reach the size of a small automobile.
