The monk parakeet (Myiopsitta monachus), also known as the Quaker parrot, is a small, bright-green parrot with a greyish breast and greenish-yellow abdomen. In most taxonomies, it is classified as the only member of the genus Myiopsitta. It originates from the temperate to subtropical areas of Argentina and the surrounding countries in South America. Self-sustaining feral populations occur in many places, mainly in North America and Europe.
The European monitoring platform ParrotNet identified more than 50,000 parakeets in London, around 12,000 in Brussels, 1,500 in Amsterdam's city center and 1,000 in Madrid. The birds belong to the parrot family, with two particular species predominant in Europe: the rose-ringed parakeet and the monk parakeet.

Another lucky shot, arriving in Sihanoukville at noon, I clicked without being being able to see the viewfinder because of the glaring sun. What a result!
First catalogued in the 1500s, the Sea Monk is similar to the Bishop Fish. Playing off the theory that A: every kind of person has acess to the Gospel, and B: There are people under the sea, it was thus assumed by many (seriously?) that fish had clergy, too. The Bishop Fish has a few catalogued appearances, including one legend where it made the sign of the cross at the Pope. But the Sea Monk is more clearly verified to the point where we know that those sailors certainly saw something. But what?
The predominant theories are that it could have been a squid - note the classic artwork, and squint a little, and you can see a squid's shape. It has also theorized to have been an angel shark, which looks kind of weird at first glance. Others imagine that it could be one of several types of seal, though those lack creedence.
Now, this figure, although clearly patterned after classic Sea Monk art, was actually labeled "Rahab: and named for a Mythical Jewish sea serpent that governed the Nile. Rahab appears a few times in the Bible as a poetic condemnation of Egypt or Pride (See, "The Lord crushed Rahab"), as well as being the name of the prostitute who harbored Israelite slaves in jericho. Rahab the woman and Rahab the monster are not related at all.
i was walking from a temple in bankok when i saw these three interesting kids in monk outfits. i didn't see any monks in the temple. i was so happy to see them on my way back to the hotel.

300 stairs climb to the top of Mount Phousi (scared hill) to take in the epic views. Very crowded, so after the crowds left, our group organized three novice monks for a photo shoot with lantern.
A monk watches a procession for 22 novice monks in Mandalay, Myanmar. Our local guide told us that this was one of the biggest and most expensive (paid for by one family) such processions that he had ever seen. It included three elephants and hundreds of people.

Monks Siding signal box located by the Down Goods line alongside Beaufort Street level crossing in Warrington. Friday 28th July 2000
Monks Siding signal box is a London & North Western Railway Company type 3 design which opened in 1875 fitted with a 20 lever London & North Western Railway Company Tumbler frame. The original signal box door and steps were originally located at the end of the 4' 6" operating floor window sashes. The doorway was moved by 1972 to just in front of the back wall with the steps facing the running line. The steps were then moved to Liverpool end of the signal box to allow the level crossing to be widened, possibly in conjunction with the level crossing gates being replaced by full width lifting barriers on 20th December 1976. The signal box was rewindowed with uPVC windows sometime by June 2003. The signal box diagram was replaced in the shape of a Tew Engineering Limited SM48 signalling panel on 9th July 2012 with an emergency replacement for MS2R signal being included in it in connection with resignalling between Monks Siding and Arpley Junction signal boxes
The signal box carries a London Midland & Scottish Railway Company post-1935 design nameboard
