i was walking from a temple in bankok when i saw these three interesting kids in monk outfits. i didn't see any monks in the temple. i was so happy to see them on my way back to the hotel.

the one on the right is the first white monk ive ever met. i was wearing my flaming lips shirt and he's like, "that yoshimi battles the robots song is good." thought it was kinda funny.

A monk watches a procession for 22 novice monks in Mandalay, Myanmar. Our local guide told us that this was one of the biggest and most expensive (paid for by one family) such processions that he had ever seen. It included three elephants and hundreds of people.

Monks in Pakse Laos

N W Argentina, Jan 2025.

single layer monk

A monk sat beside the door very quietly the whole time I was there. He spoke to no one and no one spoke to him.

After I took this photograph, the monk came over and was fascinated with the camera asking what it was and such. It was adorable.

Monks Procession

Monk Seasons 1-7 DVD Boxset

9/8 CT USA

Monk kicks off its eighth and final season tonight as the obsessive-compulsive detective takes a case that messes with his sense of reality...well, a little more than usual. Monk eagerly becomes a bodyguard for a former child star (played by Elizabeth Perkins) who's receiving death threats. But his excitement fades when he learns the actress is nothing like her TV alter ego. — Brie Hearn

Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?

8/7 CT Fox

A number of folks who have succeeded at making themselves famous (Star Jones, Larry the Cable Guy, Sugar Ray Leonard) have appeared on the show this summer, but the notoriety that tonight's contestants have achieved is certainly unwanted: Surfer Bethany Hamilton lost an arm in a shark attack, and Jill Finley awoke from a supposedly irreversible coma in 2007. Dealing with fifth-grade geography has to be easier than that. — Paul Droesch

Sleepwalking leads to sleep-building when a Stonehenge-like structure made of electronics and stolen scrap metal is raised in a field. In the course of his investigation, Sheriff Carter learns that the town's youths are the architects. So much for the stereotype of teenagers being lazy and unfocused. — Michael Chant

Actor-rapper Eve guest stars in this sometimes comical episode from February about a prized pair of stolen sneakers. The shoes in question belong to a foreign ambassador who purchased the kicks for $250,000 at auction. What makes them so valuable? They are the first pair of the final edition of a classic brand. Eve's La-La Buendia is particularly anxious that the sneaks be found because she won't receive her commission money for selling them until they are tracked down. — Tim Holland

Chefs vs. City

10/9 CT Food Network

In the premiere of this reality series, New York becomes a battleground for chefs-turned-hosts Aaron Sanchez and Chris Consentino, who go head-to-head with contemporaries (and network colleagues) Kelsey Nixon (Next Food Network Star) and Claire Robinson (5 Ingredient Fix) to find the Big Apple's most appealing spots to chow down. And that's just the start: Future episodes of the series, in which Sanchez and Consentino take on foodies across the country, visit such locales as Malibu and Las Vegas. — Michael Chant

Drepung-Gomang Monks making sacred sand mandala at Shaker Village. The mandala is made of millions of grains of sand during prayer & meditation, it is used to re-consecrate the earth. After the 4 days it was destroyed,1/2 of the sand was given to the spectators & 1/2 was put into an urn and dispersed into the pond during the closing ceremony to carry the healing powers to the rest of the world.

Everyday transportation in Myanmar. Every possible spot is usually filled in these trucks. Here there is still ample room by Burmese standards but it seems like you have to be a monk to get a ride.

I snapped this by chase as the truck drove past.

To see more photos from Myanmar you can check my Myanmar/Burma set.

You should watch this Large On Black since that brings out more details. My pictures aren't balanced for a white background and a lot of the finer details are lost in this small format.

Monks Siding signal box located by the Down Goods line alongside Beaufort Street level crossing in Warrington. Friday 29th May 1987

Monks Siding signal box is a London & North Western Railway Company type 3 design which opened in 1875 fitted with a 20 lever London & North Western Railway Company Tumbler frame. The original signal box door and steps were originally located at the end of the 4' 6" operating floor window sashes. The doorway was moved by 1972 to just in front of the back wall with the steps facing the running line. The steps were then moved to Liverpool end of the signal box to allow the level crossing to be widened, possibly in conjunction with the level crossing gates being replaced by full width lifting barriers on 20th December 1976. The signal box was rewindowed with uPVC windows sometime by June 2003. The signal box diagram was replaced in the shape of a TEW SM48 signalling panel on 9th July 2012 with an emergency replacement for MS2R signal being included in it in connection with resignalling between Monks Siding and Arpley Junction signal boxes

The signal box carries a London Midland & Scottish Railway Company post-1935 design nameboard

B signal is a two aspect colour light signal carried on a short tubular post which applied to the two B.S.C. sidings that passed over the level crossing behind the signal box. It was one of two signals, A and B, which cleared automatically when the level crossing barriers were lowered
