Heres a few shots from various forays into one of Wiltshire's many disused stone quarrys.

Over the years ive had quite a few trips down Monks Park. At one time the 'above ground' works was still in place too but that was demolished a few years back and the quarry has fallen into a proper state of dereliction

At Maha Bodhi temple in Bodh Gaya, Bihar

Captured some snaps while sitting under the Bhodi tree where Lord Buddha attained enlightenment. Monks and pilgrims walk around this building with the shrine and a tower which is called 'parikrama'.

Monk at the Monkey Temple (Swayambhunath Stupa), which was said to have been founded at the beginning of the 5th Century

This monastery with the oval windows is made of teak wood and is situated about 2 km north of Nyaungshwe at Inle Lake. Apparently it has been painted since my last visit two years ago (see below...)

Originally a monastery under the Cluniac order, Monk Bretton Priory is located in the village of Lundwood, in the borough of Barnsley, England. It was founded in 1154 as the Priory of St. Mary Magdelene of Lund by Adam Fitswane, sited on the Lund, from Old Norse. In the course of time the priory took the name of the nearby village of Bretton to be commonly known as Monk Bretton Priory.

At Buddha Waisak, 2015. It was interesting to see so many different forms of Buddhism represented; Indonesia has congregations from Theravada, Mahayana, and Tantrayana schools, and the celebrations and different altars set up as well as the monks' vestments clearly showed the diversity of traditions.

Roon met this monk on his way up the hill at Buu Long. He couldn't speak any English so the conversation was a bit slow but he did light some incense and say a prayer with him. (If Roon had realised that he was urinating at this point he wouldn't have taken the picture!)

Biên Hòa is a city in Dong Nai Province, Vietnam, about 20 miles (32 km) (30 kilometers) east of Saigon, to which Bien Hoa is linked by Vietnam Highway 1. In 1989 the estimated population was over 300,000. And now in 2005, population increased to 541,495, and some estimates show that the city has 604,548 people in 2007

Bien Hoa grew into a major suburb of Saigon (later renamed Ho Chi Minh City) as the capital city of South Vietnam grew. Following the First Indochina War, tens of thousands of refugees from the northern and central regions of Vietnam—a large portion of them Roman Catholics—resettled in Bien Hoa as part of Operation Passage to Freedom.

During the Vietnam War, the United States Air Force operated Bien Hoa Air Base near the city. Nonetheless, a significant number of the city's residents sympathized with, or were members of, the Viet Cong. Mortar attacks on U.S. and ARVN targets were frequently staged from residential districts in Bien Hoa.

With regard to entertainment, the city includes several amusement parks, night clubs and restaurants lining the Dong Nai River. Construction has increased rapidly (with many Western-style houses and villas under development), and the real estate market has experienced a series of boom cycles since the mid-1990s. The retail market still includes the many ad hoc bazaar-type markets and shop-fronts common to most of Vietnam, but now also includes air-conditioned, enclosed shopping malls, one of which, a Big C branch, includes a KFC restaurant, a Western-style grocery store, a bowling alley and video arcade, among others.

A walk of about a quarter of a mile along the side of a field brings you to Monk Soham church, and it's a delight. Fully in the 14th Century Decorated style with a beautiful five light east window with intersecting tracery. Inside, one of Suffolk's dozen Seven Sacrament fonts and a delicious atmosphere.

Xilitu temple, Hohhot, Inner Mongolia, China, Gelug monks, Tibetan Buddhist,

The Shiretu Juu (Mongolian: ᠰᠢᠷᠡᠭᠲᠤ ᠵᠤᠤ Siregtu juu), also known Yanshou Temple (延壽寺) or Xilitu Zhao is an ancient surviving Buddhist monastery in Inner Mongolia, China.

The monastery located in Hohhot, the capital of the Inner Mongolian Autonomous Region. The original temple was built in 1585, later destroyed by fire and rebuilt in the 19th century.

The monastery is a distinct blend of Chinese and Tibetan architecture, reflecting its intercultural influences. His temple has acted as the official residence of a Living Buddha, the English translation of the Chinese term for an incarnate lama, since 1735 and remains so this day, housing the 11th Grand Living Buddha. The complex suffered damage during the Cultural Revolution (1966–1976) but has since been completely restored. While open to the public, the temple remains an active place of worship for Mongol monks and their disciples.
