Letter kindly translated by xiphophilos; penned on 25.2.1917 and addressed to Pfarrer L. Finster in Ampfing. Postage cancelled in Munich the same day.
"Esslesia Militans sub potestate terrena ante ante triumpum ipsius super illam." - "The church fighting under a worldly power before the triumph of itself over that (power)"
Two monks pose with several soldiers from varying units. A well thumbed copy of the bible rests on the table with three bayonets stabbing the earth below providing an unintended(?) visual metaphor for Heaven and Hell.
Interestingly, the German name for Munich, i.e. München, means "of Monks".

This morning at Loxahatchee NWR a monk parakeet flew by. It was amusing that I was wearing four layers of clothing, while this "tropical" bird was "naked as a jay." Since I moved to Florida in the early 1990s I have seen more of these guys in the wild each year.

The Monks at Bransholme North off the roundabout as you head towards Kingswood and Bransholme North these are beautiful wood carvings on your left if driving into the area. Taken on the 31 March 2019
I think we all have some major regrets when it comes to stuff we should have taken more photos of but had the "I'll do it next week" mentality.
Monks European were a familiar sight around their home town of Leigh and more or less every child in the town of a certain age would have gone swimming or on a school trip with them.
I always said to myself I'd make the effort to shoot them but only took a couple of photos, this one mainly for its Lancashire United pedigree.
Oh for a time machine!

Ten of thousands monks and nuns live in these red log cabins in Serthar Buddhist Institute, situated in Larung valley, Serthar county, Garze (Ganzi) Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan, China.
Serthar Buddhism institute is the largest and most influential center for the study of Tibetan Buddhism in the world. Despite its extremely remote location, at an altitude of 4,000 meters, in an ethnic Tibetan region of Sichuan Province, more than 500 miles by dirt road from the nearest city, Serthar has attracted more than 10000 students at the site.

Spoiled, as a picture, by the blown out water on the far side of the bridge and by the patches of sky top left - but it's still a beautiful old bridge.

As I am a Sony Alpha user, I would like to express my feeling for A7 Series camera that I like:
- Size and weight very light and easier to grab for my hand and more handy
- Silent shutter, BSI sensor 5 axis in-body stabilization and the possibility to use also with E-mount, A-mount and all brands.
- Visualize directly in viewfinder how the image will end up. I don’t have to verify it all the time, I am more confident in your settings, I save a lot of time, As I can see what your picture will exactly.
- Focus Peaking highlights the edges of the subject which is in focus, it's really useful for me.
- Whether I shoot macro, wildlife, concerts or whatever, it’s a very convenient means to get original angles and more creative pictures on the ground or above a crowd.
- Image Quality and Sensor Performances.
- The NFC and WiFi feature is to be able to use one’s smartphone as a smart remote and copy image. In fact, I don’t have to stand behind my camera to take the picture.
- The short distance between the sensor and the lens is one of mirrorless’ best advantages. It allows the use of whichever lens I want via an adapter. There are adapters for all existing brands.

Greenwich Village, NYC street mural of jazz pianist Thelonious Monk. Monk is certainly one of the most influential and brilliant composers of America's classical music otherwise called "jazz."

This monk was standing in the heavy winds and rain in Westminster, CA in the parking lot of a Vietnamese grocery store. These monks will stand completely still in place, eyes closed, unflinching, whatever the weather, and people will come up and put money in the pots they hold, and they live off of this charity... having given up all other earthly posessions in search of enlightenment through a life a poverty.
