Modular Origami Star (Maria Sinayskaya)

A very similar model to this one, but here all the points are the same size/shape and equally spaced.

Modular Star (Maria Sinayskaya)

squares, 8 units, no glue

After connecting two of those units together I knew which star I have to give a closer look, and sure enough, I was able to reverse-engineer Carmen Sprung's Stern Constanze out of this star. Not the same (the connection method is different) but close. I guess after folding so many 8-pointed stars from squares it was just bound to happen eventually)

First let me say that this is the first modular I've done in, well, at

least a year. I don't generally do them because they use a lot of paper,

but a couple of months ago the idea popped into my head and it seemed too

good to resist. I promptly forgot about it until last weekend, when I ran

across the prototype module in a box and decided to finish it. This seemed

to be the best use for a packet of animal print paper that I'd recieved

for christmas anyhow. And since I'd never designed a modular before, I

thought I'd try my hand at it.

But about the model: It uses a pinwheel shape, which then interlocks with

itself to form half-stellations around the base polyhedra (an octahedron

in this case). I'll admit I used a little glue to keep the units flat, but

they lock using tension alone.

Folded from eight equilateral triangles of patterned paper, about 6 inches

to a side.

In response to a discussion started by AK_Brickster on www.classic-castle.com, I've been inspired to reimagine modular terrain standards like base8 and the Classic-Castle City standard. Here are some shots of a road I've built with some ideas of my own.

Zuri is a lounge / club in Belgiums coasttown Knokke. It's located in the casino building. I love the way they didn't make any compromises in the interior design. Everything white, no disturbing elements and awsome lighting armatures by modular. When these led lights change color the walls and furniture take on the same color. It looks great,… sci-fi like. The stange shaped doors add to this feeling.

Folded the flower from the tesselation base. Icosahedral assembly would have been too tight especially because of the stones which need a flat flower. So I folded an octahedon.

Glue was used, quite sure it's not needed - I used it to stabilze everything such that the stones won't fall of during handling.

Modular Apartment, top floor detail: The bed is quite cramped, with its yellow and dark green linen. There's a cassette recorder (yeah, really) on top of the cupboard, and there's some sort of strange cubicle to the left. I'll get back to that.

My father's tunnels' with a update. Back in 1999 - 2005, my father kinda went on a LEGO building spree. He built the orginal single track tunnel, a red / white shed (later expanded to double track), a bridge using 6552's river baseplate, a Factory, and an unifinished grain elevator. i am remaking them all to show to the world via Flickr & MOC Pages. The real models have been in my fathers basement since they were built. Anyway, I recreated his tunnel, took off the 32x32 green baseplate, made them modular, and made a double track version to boot. I one of the following photos, you will see one of the way to use both the single& double tracks at the same time... enjoy!
