Armed merchant ship "Yellow Carvel". c1475. Built at a time when ships were becoming important for trade and defence, the three-masted Yellow Carvel was square-rigged on the fore and main masts, with a lateen sail on the mizzen.
Hull painting finished- just a little touching-up to do. Main deck just laid in place temporarily, but rear deck structure now complete.

The boats are free running i.e No radio control so requires one person to launch the boat along the course and another person to be at the scoring gates to catch and return back the model boat.
Model Boats may be powered by Steam, I.C or Electricity.
At one end of the lake is a single white starting gate erected for the person to launch their boat and at a distance of usually sixty yards there are eight markers erected at the scoring 10, 9, 8 and 7 with members ready to catch and return boats back to starting gate.
The object of the exercise is to score points by sailing the boats through the eight markers (bowling on water). Each class of boat have 3 runs to get a top score of 30 which are counted at the end of the day to get a 1st, 2nd or 3rd price for the day and at the end of the year all the points are added up through out the year for the southern area competition to win the main trophies.
The centre gate white scoring Ten, the next gate Red scoring Nine, the next gate yellow scoring Eight, the outside gates Orange scoring Seven, out side the gate scores nothing.
This is the most inexpensive form of model boating and can without be most challenging and enjoyable.

She served through the early years of the Second World War; in Home Waters, off Norway and in the Mediterranean. Throughout her service, Kelly was commanded by Lord Louis Mountbatten. Operation Pluto (Pipe-Lines Under The Ocean) was a Second World War operation by British engineers, oil companies and armed forces to construct undersea oil pipelines under the English Channel between England and France in support of Operation Overlord, the Allied invasion of Normandy in June 1944.
This is the boat hull as I received it. The deck had already been glued in (which would later prove a painting challenge), and there was rust residue in the motor compartment.

It looked great on the Museum's indoor pond and I was having a lot of fun with it, but Collections Manager Abigail decided it would look better in a glass case so now it is on display in the P.S. Loch Lomond Gallery in The Scottish Maritime Museum Irvine, one day I will get it out again!
Carlisle Model Boat Club member David Harvey's scale representation of the Brixham beam trawler Angel Emiel. It took David, working from photographs, two years to scratch build the model, which features operational lights, booms, nets, rudder and bow thrusters. She is seen on Talkin Tarn, near Brampton, venue for the club's sailing afternoons every Wednesday throughout the year. Angel Emiel is rated Carlisle Model Boat Club's finest vessel.
