Just to the east of the valley where Moab, Utah, is located, is an area of rock formations and canyons that I call the Moab Highlands. I explored the area with Dan Micks, who offers tours in his souped-up big-wheeled all-terrain 4wd monster truck/jeep. In this shot, the "road" is right in front of us.
If you ever have the opportunity to spend a day or half-day with Dan, go for it.

Jetboat trip to explore the majesty of Canyonlands National Park was cancelled due to low water in the river. We boarded Hummers for a tour at Sand Flats Recreation Area, just outside Moab.

The locals would probably disagree, but I've been visiting Moab since 1973 and still find it to be a small, laid-back town that doesn't have the touristy feeling common to so many places near national parks and other popular destinations. Sure, there are lots of hotel chains and fast-food joints on the outskirts of town, but the downtown area seems pretty much the same to me. I always enjoy walking around here.
MOAB is a big wargames show held in Sydney over the October long-weekend. This year I thought I'd stand out, as part of our Frocktober fundraiser.

DLWS Moab 2008
A couple of us at DLWS didn't feel like waiting on the sun to come up, so we grabbed an SB-800, slapped a full cut of CTO on it, and took turns being VALs for each other (camera right). Triggered with an SU-800 on a D3.
