I was chasing this storm from Moab to Island in the sky, moon was bright enough to help with the foreground. It all worked out.

I took this photo on our first visit to Moab. The lone figure of an elderly Japanese tourist (I doubt I am wrong about his nationality), poised over the edge of the Island in the Sky, is what I remember most vividly about that day. Will he or won’t he? He kept bending ever so slightly forward, only to lean (ever so slightly) back, like a singing samisen string seen in slow motion. Will he or won’t he - look at me?
I suppose if you are a climber, you might be familiar with Looking Glass Arch. I certainly was unaware of it, despite the markers along US Highway 191 leading into Moab.
Mid-day on a very hot and windy June, we stopped for a brief few minutes to see this reef sticking out from the high desert plain northeast of Canyonlands National Park.

Added to the group "Sliders Sunday -- Post Processed To The MAX!". Not one of my most colorful slides, but I worked to bring out the texture.

Got on location and the sky wasn't look too good for photography, but then this happened. And as the sun continued to set behind us and it cleared up a little to the east, the light just kept getting better and better
A side road off Moab's Arches National Park. Petroglyphs fill the mountain rocks for a view of the past.
Drive, Bike, Raft, Fly
Driving out of camp we drove next to the river and a bike path and throw in the sky and there are all kinds of ways to enjoy the area. Beautiful part of the country!
Early morning light illuminates this squall outside of Moab, Utah. In the presence of such a monstrous force of nature it was impossible to ignore, especially with its accompanying display of lightening and thunder.
Rain in Fruita, Colorado forced us to move our trip to Moab, Utah. This was taken somewhere along the HyMasa / Captain Ahab trail. I've never been so wet and dirty, but had so much fun as I did that trip.
“Ravens taught me to pay attention. The desert taught me to see. Art and artists taught me to see more…and better…and to appreciate, savor, and protect.”
― Linda Durham
(At least I think they are ravens.... maybe they are crows?)
I got out to visit my daughter in her new home in Utah. I'll definitely be going back... and I'm happy that I went in winter. I love winter...especially in places that will be 100 degrees plus and super crowded in spring, summer and fall!
