My interpretation...taken near dusk. This little bit of rocky heaven is actually a relatively unremarkable part of the spectacularly convoluted Canyonlands area that has been carved out by frequent flooding into the Colorado River. But after looking twice twice, it caught my imagination...I realized that in other contexts this hardly discernible scene would be a knockout. So I wanted to make that happen.

Inside Arches National Park at sunset.

The “Windows” section of the park. This is Turret arch from about 50 yards or so away. The foreground had become completely black as the sun had set just over the horizon. If you look close you can see the last bit of rays shooting into the clouds to give the amazing colors we had that night. We cut the trip extremely short as we headed back home after just one day in Southern Utah.

Beautiful Moab magnificence...

The Potash Local and the scenic grandeur of red rock along the Colorado River on May 11, 2007.

Fun Fact: Fun Fact: In 2010, the cab of retired UP SD40-2 No. 3751 was grafted onto former Santa Fe GP60B No. 347, becoming BNSF "frankengeep" No. 170.

Union Pacific's LDG51B 04, more commonly known as the "Potash Local", arrives at Intrepid Potash at 5:05 p.m. on Friday, June 4, 2021. After a long day and a slow journey with numerous delays, the crew secured the train right here just outside the UP yard in Moab Canyon, Utah. A PTi bus shuttled the crew back to East Yard in Grand Junction, Colorado.

Captured late, shortly before sunset, outside Moab where the Colorado runs in the red rock. (K1BC9895)

With nine outbound loads from Intrepid Potash, the LDG51B navigates back to back 5 degree curves on the 1.2% climb to Bootlegger Canyon.

Moonrise over the Colorado River

Though I'm not generally a fan of HDR, this image was taken at absolutely the wrong time of day and would not have been possible otherwise. Plus the programs really have gone a long way toward realistic, easy images. Taken in the Professor Valley near Moab, Utah.

Got on location and the sky wasn't look too good for photography, but then this happened. And as the sun continued to set behind us and it cleared up a little to the east, the light just kept getting better and better

Drive, Bike, Raft, Fly

Driving out of camp we drove next to the river and a bike path and throw in the sky and there are all kinds of ways to enjoy the area. Beautiful part of the country!

Day three of the trip. Just outside of Moab we discovered this waterfall and spent about an hour taking pictures.

One of the many terrific photo stops we made recently during my Moab area photo tour. I'm headed back next spring and should come join me for some great photography and adventure..

As the sun continued to set, the rocks looked like they were on fire.

seen three years ago today as we drove south from Moab to St. George Utah.

As the rainbow was fading, I took a 9 shot pano and stitched it together in LR

― Linda Durham

(At least I think they are ravens.... maybe they are crows?)

I got out to visit my daughter in her new home in Utah. I'll definitely be going back... and I'm happy that I went in winter. I love winter...especially in places that will be 100 degrees plus and super crowded in spring, summer and fall!

I captured this in Moab Utah at Arches NP.
