Surprisingly practical on a recent trip to Ikea. After a period of inactivity I've covered a good few miles in this during the past week, with more to come in a couple of weeks. Some extended use seems to have done it good; it feels more responsive now. I think it was in dire need of a decent run.

Good to get the Mini out earlier in the week, for its longest run since Feb.

Mini-Milo is now 8 months old ( we just call him "Mini" now). He's a kind of sad little guy... his brother, Siam, who he loved to pieces, died in August, and he's essentially been left all alone since then (my other cats pick on him for some reason). His mother, Stripe, doesn't pay much attention to him, but he does still have his Daddy, Milo... but Milo likes to roam alot, so he's not home very often to keep Mini company. When Milo does come home, Mini rubs all over him... he really loves his daddy! And he's also got Jinxie... the two of them have become best-buddies, and it's realy cute to se them play together.

I just noticed that the tip of Mini's left ear is missing.... I guess one of my other mean cats did that to him. And I also noticed that his eyes are beginning to turn green, like his Dad's. When Milo was young, he had brownish eyes, but they turned a bright green after he reached 1 yr old... I'm thinking that Mini's eyes will do the same. I wish I had come up with a better name for Mini-Milo, but since it seems that he's going to be the spitting image of his dad, maybe Mini isn't such a bad name afterall.

Here, as promised earlier on in my photostream - The same Mini I saw at Goodwood motor circuit but here its at Brooklands historic motor circuit instead ;) I love this Mini, looks great! Sorry about the shot though, it was a rather miserable day and in the editing process I couldn't get the best level of contrast and light so it just looks weird - maybe its just me.

Also I just realized the car is at the same angle (pretty much) - Sorry again - I do try to get something different each time I go to these events but when its freezing cold outside and your hands feel like they're about to fall off, I think you'll agree that getting warm again is your main priority ;) At least the weather here is finally improving in the south of England, bright and sunny - for the first time in months I didn't need to wear a coat to work! :D

How's the weather where you are? I hope you guys like the shot! Let me know what you think as always and I am always welcome to thoughts on how I can improve!! Don't forget to like my Facebook Page!

www.recyclart.org/2011/12/mini-christmas-tree/

I wanted to make an inexpensive mini Christmas tree this year. And when I came across the fallen palm stalk in the exact shape of a Christmas tree, I thought it would be perfect. At first I was going to dress it with mini Christmas tree balls, but when I saw the price ($5), I decided to hit the dollar store. I went twice and, unfortunately, they didn’t have mini ornament balls or the gold garland that I was looking for. So I decided to make my own.

What I used & (my cost):

Palm stalk or tree branches shaped like Christmas tree (free)

Berries (cranberries will work if you can’t find red berries) (free)

Mini pine cones painted gold ($2.40 with Michael’s coupon)

Pine seed husks (not sure if that’s the actual name) (free)

White spray paint (free – left over from another project)

Ornament hooks (free – already had them)

Small round glass vase (free – already had it)

Small rocks (free – from garden)

Burlap – small piece (.80 cents)

Needle and thread

Needle nose pliers

Glue gun

Total spent = $3.20

*You can substitute any of these ornaments with whatever you have in your area.

We gathered berries from our palm trees and pine seed husks from a nearby pine tree. I was looking for acorns, but that’s hard to find in Miami, but so are the mini pine cones. I went to Michael’s and found the perfect gold painted mini pine cones. I was going to go to the dollar store to buy a small round vase for the base, but then I remembered that I already had one. Just filled it with rocks (to make it heavy), inserted the ‘tree’, and hot glue it so it wouldn’t fall out. I wrapped a small piece of burlap (cut in a circle) around the vase and tied it with a ribbon.

Creating the ornaments:

Take the berries and string them using the needle and thread. To preserve the seeds I, painted them with some clear varnish. Didn’t quite work out, they still shrivelled up. But they look like they aren’t decomposing ay further.

*Safety Note: If using random outdoor berries, keep them away from children and pets and wash your hands after handling them. Or better yet wear gloves, just in case they are poisonous.

Break the pine seed husks into smaller pieces and give a quick coat of white paint.

To hang the ornaments you are going to have to attach hooks to them:

Take the hooks straighten them out and cut them in half.

Twist one end 90 degrees with the pliers and the other end to create the hook part.

Attach the hook to the pine cones and seed husks with hot glue.

Dress the tree to your liking and enjoy!
