Mini African violets grow and flower on a windowsill. They get no sun just high light. They must like it there because they are flowering again.

Lighthouse "Gellen", Island of Hiddensee, Baltic Sea / Germany
Hiddensee is a relatively small island of approximately 17 km length (10.5 miles) and 250 metres (270 yd) wide but is 'equipped' with two lighthouses, out of which only one is a real 'lighthouse' and this one - on the photograph - is a 'beacon' (new word I just learned; in German = "Leuchtfeuer" which literally translated to English means "shining fire"). It was built in 1904.
I wondered if there is a difference between a lighthouse and a beacon, as both show the way for navigation. When I started to explore, I learned that the term "beacon" (German: Leuchtfeuer) is the generic term for lighthouses, lightships, tall buoys, pier lights, leading lights, cross lights etc., used for safe navigation. In other words: a lighthouse is the most famous and representative beacon :-).
Despite its rather insignificant size, the island has a varied history. First it was populated by Germanic tribes, who at some point moved south. Their place was taken by Slavic tribes, coming from the east. In the heyday of the Vikings (9 - 10 century) the island was conquered by the Viking king Waldemar I of Denmark. At some point in history it again became German.
The island was once covered by dense oak forests, but these were cleared as a precaution during wars in the 17th century to provide the Danes with less wood for shipping and to solidify their naval forces.
And now for something completely different. On a wet day I spotted a patch of Moss in a flower pot with all these little beads of moisture like mini mirrors.
I set up my small tripod and shot thirteen frames to focus stack, I am well pleased with the result too, just amazing what you can point a macro lens at and see another world.

Macro Monday - Smaller than a Coin
Found this tiny weenie weed growing in my garden and shot the photo on top of a pile of pound coins

I’ve been preserving this small pencil (totally used and consumed) since the middle school...a long time ago.
I'm still wondering if I let this little one as is or if I'm making shadings and markings on him (with very diluted acrylic paint). I'm a little afraid of ruining him as I'm not used to work so small...

Mini jungle with native species still in this area. This area used to have wild cats, I don't know the species, called Maral in the local name, but due to rapid deforestation and people weren't aware of the significance of protecting wild animals native to this area,we lost them.
We saw these fun mini Muskoka chairs in a store window in Lunenburg, NS. Some day when we build that cabin on the lake, we'll have Muskoka chairs to enjoy watching sunsets from, with all of our friends!!! You're all invited to join us! :D

My Macro Monday offering for 'Contraption'. This is a very useful mini-clamp for miniature work. I find it extremely handy for holding single flower stems for macro work. It's completely adjustable in all sorts of directions and consists of a higher and a lower clamp - ingenius contraption !
Mini-Wassermelonen
Auf einem lokalen Bauernmarkt entdeckt:
Rote und gelbe Mini-Wassermelonen. Diese messen nur 7 cm im Durchmesser, etwa die Größe eines Tennisballs, und wuchsen auf einem lokalen Feld in der Steiermark (Südost-Österreich).
Die Kerne sind gleich groß wie jene der bekannten, großen Art und der Geschmack ist auch gleich.
Mini watermelons
Discovered at a local farmers' market:
Red and yellow mini watermelons. These measure just 2,8 inches in diameter, about the size of a tennis ball, and grew in a local field in Styria (south-eastern Austria).
The seeds are the same size as those of the well-known, large variety and the taste is also the same.
