Loch Ard Gorge, Great Ocean Road, Victoria, Australia
Isn't this just one of the finest coastal views you've ever seen? Views like this is what had me return to photograph the mightily impressive and truly stunning Great Ocean Road in Australia.
I remember driving this route on several occasions way back in 2003 while I spent a year backpacking around Australia and New Zealand. I was entranced by its sheer beauty and of course way back then I visited with nothing more than a 3.2 mega pixel Sony compact camera. I have been dying to return for years and two weeks ago I did just that.
As I set up the camera, the storm clouds were whipping through at a fair old rate bringing with it more than a hint of threatening rain and just as I captured this scene, the heavens opened, torrential rain fell and I just managed to return to the car before drowning, lol.
I hope you all enjoy the image and please feel free TO SHARE if you wish. Have a great weekend everyone :D

WOW, it was a hell of a sunrise this morning at Derwentwater near Keswick. Arriving on location at 6.15am with my Andrew, my 1-2-1 client for two days, we quickly set up our cameras and I fired off this shot whilst Andrew was setting up.
I have visited this location on numerous occasions forever hopeful of capturing a stunning sunrise and today I got it. Am I happy? You betcha.
I hope you all had a wonderful day too. Tomorrow morning the weather forecast is predicting great things so we're off at 5am in search of some magic again. This landscape photography malarky is quite a nice way to live a life wouldn't you say? :D

I remember this evening well from my week on the gorgeous island of Crete in Greece in April 2019. I had driven to the end of a single track unpaved road and wandered over several jagged, sharp rocks to stand at this location and admire the view.
As the sun started dipping behind some low lying clouds, it cast a wonderful, warm golden light on the rocky cliff face in the distance. It wasn't the most comfortable position to be situated in as the water rushed in and up high on the odd occasion but how could I not resist this beautiful view?

I love this tree and I had an opportunity during a 1-2-1 with a new client back last week to capture it during a wonderful misty morning. Knowing exactly where to head to in when the weather closes in in the Lakes is essential in capturing the right image at the right time. I have spent over ten years visiting and photographing the Lake District and I have built up an enviable amount of knowledge and experience shooting in the most beautiful National Park in the UK (which is now an UNESCO World Heritage Site as of the 9th July 2017)
I am so fortunate to live a short distance from this stunningly beautiful park and with over 18 million visitors a year, I know that I am not alone in appreciating its beauty.
If you would like to spend a day in the Lake District with your camera and me on a 1-2-1, please contact me to discuss a date when we're both available. You can find out more here. www.melvinnicholsonphotography.co.uk/1-2-1-private-tuition/

Back in January, Chris (my workshop client) and I were incredibly fortunate to be able to witness a solar storm over the ice lagoon at Jökulsárlón before venturing onto the Diamond Beach to finish off capturing the wonderful greens and purples over the icebergs on the beach.
Honestly, I am absolutely blessed to be able to witness some amazing scenes during my life as a full time pro landscape photographer but standing on a black, sandy volcanic beach watching the eighth wonder of the world (to me anyway) really is right up there among those experiences.

One of the things that I love Iceland for is the variety and sheer numbers of beautiful little wooden churches. I could spend a month visiting and photographing them all. There's a wonderful charm about them and of course they make great subjects to shoot.
Iceland is a country that captures your heart a thousand times more than you're able to capture it and for me personally, I feel as though I leave a part of me behind every time I return home but that I connect with the country every time I arrive again. It really does create life long memories.

For those who are not aware of the sheer delights in visiting and photographing the Assynt region of the west cost of Scotland, you really do not know what you're missing.
This part of Scotland flies under the radar when compared to Glencoe, Skye and Harris and Lewis but it is no less magical and in the right light, is absolutely stunning. Here is an image I shot back in October during my workshop of the lovely little abandoned bothy in Elphin.
On this particular day the storm clouds and threatening sky mixed in with some fantastic heavy showers offered up a double rainbow right over the bothy. I am known as the 'Bow Whisperer' for my natural luck in photographing a whole range of rainbows in some amazing locations and on this occasion, I am so pleased to have lived up to my nickname, lol.

Sunrise over Luskentyre Beach, Isle of Harris, Outer Hebrides, Scotland
I am often asked, which do I prefer, sunrise or sunset and my answer is always the same. Sunrise without a shadow of a doubt and looking at this image from running a workshop in the Outer Hebrides last November, you can see why.
This image captured at dawn is practically a 'straight out of camera' shot with minimal post processing needed. Isn't it just beautiful and of course Luskentyre Beach is one of the most famous beaches in the world and with good reason. It's always worth a pre-amble down along it pre-sunrise in the hope of some magical colour and on this particular morning, we got it.
I am really looking forward to returning to Harris and Lewis to run three photo workshops this November. It's been a while since I was last there (Nov 2019) and I miss the place terribly.

FOUR DAY WORKSHOP
Thurs 16th - Sun 19th November 2017 £795
www.melvinnicholsonphotography.co.uk/product/glencoe-work...
To shoot or not to shoot? That is the question. Actually, there's never a moment of doubt in my mind as to whether to capture on camera an iconic and well known viewpoint. Sure, thousands before me have taken this scene but I don't worry about that, I simply want to do the very best job that I can in photographing it myself.
To that end, I am delighted with this image. It was shot last week on my Glencoe workshop. This was the composition that I wanted but it involved clambering down into the pit as I call it to get water side as opposed to standing high up on the ledge above my head. The main dominant rock in the foreground was my subject and using a 16-35mm lens at 16mm on a full frame Canon 5Ds was the only way for me to get it and still be able to use my range of Haida filters.
I hope you all like it. The coordinates for these falls are 56.647564, -4.866706

I stumbled on this gorgeous little yellow chapel while out in Tuscany for a week or so last September. Being on my own allowed me to simply drive and discover new places, down a neverending myriad of roads.
I was actually on the way to photograph a nearby church when I came across this little gem. I spent perhaps half an hour trying different compositions but ultimately I opted for the conventional head-on shot.
The trees on either side of the door are the gorgeous Cypress trees and their grey bark are full of detail and texture. Isn't it such a beautiful scene? I cannot wait to return to Italy in September and show the country my support after all they are going through. It's a beautiful country with fantastic, passionate and friendly people and they deserve all the support and help we can give them.

I have spent a very enjoyable day reviewing and editing images from my recent Lofoten winter trip and I thought that I would share this little beauty with you all.
This is a very popular viewpoint and not unique by any stretch of the imagination but the whole scene radiated calmness and serenity. Can you feel it?
While my autumn 2019 workshop to Lofoten is now full, I shall be putting together my 2020 workshops before the end of April. I cannot wait to return to the magical archipelago that is Lofoten.

Sunset at Central Pier, Blackpool, Lancashire
Ahh, Blackpool. The Las Vegas of the UK. My hometown although I have not lived there since 1996 but I do live in its neighbouring town, Preston so it is only a hop, skip and a jump in the car to reach and the UK's most popular coastal resort certainly offers up some gems to photograph.
For a start, Blackpool has not one, two but THREE PIERS. They are all around 150 years old so the upkeep on them is tremendous but Central Pier is the 'fun pier' for it has fairground rides and a huge ferris wheel to ride on.
So last week I ventured down for a couple of hours and I managed to wander onto the pier as there seemed to be a fair amount of activity going on. Turns out, the TV show The Bay was filming at the bottom of the pier so it was assumed that I was part of the crew but once it became apparent that I wasn't, I was politely informed that I would have to leave, but I was fortunate enough to capture this scene before packing up. The secret is setting up and working quickly but the security guard was a lovely chap so it was all good.

Tripping The Light Fantastic, Peel Ports, Liverpool
This is my second image shared from my sunset shoot down at Crosby Beach in Merseyside a couple of nights ago. I bumped into local photographer Dominic Darvell who very kindly offered up a suggestion or two on what to shoot in the area and this scene was one of those suggestions.
The secret in capturing this shot is to wait for the tide to recede until the water offers up some great reflections of the tall shipping container cranes in the distance. It's quite a narrow window of opportunity as the water had dropped too much within a couple of minutes of taking this shot, rendering the reflections non-existent.
Thanks to Dominic for his company and for his local knowledge of the area. It is always a pleasure shooting with local folk who possess a great deal of experience and knowledge in shooting their local area.

Captured yesterday during another 1-2-1 tuition day with Steve, a lovely new client of mine. Having checked the water levels of Derwentwater online, I knew that the water had dropped from 1.65mtrs to just 1.24mtrs and although this old broken concrete jetty was submerged the other day during another 1-2-1 tuition day that I ran, I knew that at 1.24mtrs, it would be visible and ready to be photographed.
On arriving yesterday afternoon, the colour grew in the sky as the clouds rolled in to create a fair bit of drama in the sky. I just love these kind of days. A long exposure of thirty seconds captured the water silky smooth and it was taken on my latest Canon EOS R mirrrorless camera which once again performed brilliantly. I am loving quite a few of the features of this camera and my Canon 5D MK4 has now been consigned to my back up camera.

One of the most engaging and dramatic places I have ever visited is Elgol on the magical Isle of Skye in Scotland. This place has on a good day, a real presence about it and more than a feeling of sheer menace on a bad day and I've seen it during both.
Here is a shot that I took back in March 2018 while running a workshop. The conditions were favourable and calm but the colour, texture and feel of these wonderful rocks is quite something else. I liken the feel and look to very rough sandpaper. My advice is never to fall on these rocks wearing shorts, lol.
I hope you all like it and are not going too stir crazy just yet.

Emerald Lake Lodge, Yoho National Park, Canadian Rockies
This image of the wonderful cafe that stands guard at the end of a wooden bridge at Emerald Lake was magical and turned out to be one of my favourite places in the Rockies.
The colour of the water was exceptional and the huge 3,000 metre mountains that surround the lake give the whole place a majestic feel and look. In fact, Emerald Lake has become my favourite place to visit and photograph due to the numerous compositions on offer as well as lovely red canoes which contrast beautifully with the green water.

The Chapel of the Madonna di Vitaleta is without a shadow of a doubt one of my favourite locations in Tuscany.
This gorgeous little church stands high up on a hill near Pienza flanked by two rows of Cypress trees with a Maritime Pine standing guard close by. It is perhaps one of the most enchanting and beautiful scenes I have ever seen, simple yet so wonderfully evocative.
Once parked in the roadside layby across the fields, I waited a few minutes for the sun to rise and reveal the beauty of the church. Isn't it just stunning?
I hope you like the image. Here's a link to some more information about the church for those interested in reading up on it. Here's a bit of trivia for you. The church once housed the Madonna sculpture by artist, Andrea della Robbia.

I first drove the Great Ocean Road way back in 2003 during my year's backpacking adventure in Australia and New Zealand. Returning to this magnificent part of Australia (which is without a doubt is one of the finest ocean drives anywhere in the world) has brought back some lovely memories for me but I was keen to photograph the iconic and world famous sea stacks of the Twelve Apostles as previously, I was only armed with a Sony compact camera and before I found that I had a real passion for landscape photography.
So here is my take on the gorgeous sea stacks. Captured at sunset, the faint glow of the decreasing light and the setting sun behind me casts a gorgeous golden glow on the stacks themselves. It really is a wonderful place to spend an hour or two first thing in the morning.
Anyhow, I hope you all like it and enjoy the rest of your evening.

Taken on Tuesday during a one day workshop I was leading in Yorkshire, these gorgeous under photographed waterfalls looked beautiful in the summer sun.
One of the reasons why I love photographing water in Yorkshire is that it's got a beautiful red/brown colour due to the peat that the water passes through. Using a polariser to cut through the white reflected light on the water allowed for the rocks below to really take centre stage and the log that we found there by the riverside made an excellent foreground subject (I promise it is not a blow up log that I carry around with me, lol).
I ventured up to Yorkshire the day before the workshop to double check the locations that we would be visiting the following day and I was surprised at just how much water was pouring over all of the waterfalls in the area. Boy it sure must have rained a fair bit in the days leading up to my visit. I was not complaining though.
Anyhow, here's my quick capture of the falls that I took between jumping between my clients to assist them in setting up and capturing their own shots.
Have a wonderful weekend everyone. What are you up to?
I hope you all like it and as usual, please feel FREE TO SHARE if you wish. Many thanks in advance.

.A brand new image edited and one that was taken back in February this year during a week long photo workshop I was running. I experienced some of the fiercest weather conditions I have ever experienced but on this particular day, the conditions had calmed down for a little while so everyone was out enjoying one of Iceland's most popular and impressive waterfalls.
Trying to get a photo here without people in it is almost impossible so why not include them but shoot the image over 30 seconds and have them all look ghostly which to my mind adds to the atmospheric feeling we experienced.
Black and white was the obvious way to go but in truth, there was almost no colour present anyway bar the jackets of those who were in front of me.
I hope you enjoy it.I cannot wait to return to Iceland in October to run another week long photo tour. The gorgeous autumnal colours will light up the landscape with no snow present except on the glaciers of course.

Fairytale Island In The Mist, Lake Bled, Slovenia
I am almost running out of superlatives where Lake Bled is concerned and in particular, the most beautiful lake island that I have ever seen and photographed.
Three days ago on Wednesday morning, I ventured out of my apartment and drove the five minute journey to the campsite car park at Zaka on the west side of the lake, where a few minutes later, I captured the image of the island in the mist with the wooden logs under the water that seems to have been well received (thank you if you liked, commented or shared the image. Much appreciated. See the image in the first comment box below if you have to see it).
After I left the lakeshore beaming ear to ear, I drove on up to a nearby car park a couple of minutes up the road and started to explore the shoreline around the Cafe Belvedere, an elevated cafe that belongs to the lovely Villa Bled Hotel and resides in their grounds. Bar a couple of fishermen in their two boats below me, I was completely alone and the views from up high at the viewing platform were amazing.
The island was surrounded by mist, that was rolling over the lake and the separation of the island from the mainland behind was just perfect and exactly what I was after capturing on camera. The colours of the trees below me were absolutely ripe and in full autumn bloom. The colour of the water a beautiful deep green and the Kase Polarising filter really helped to bring out the colour in the water too.
I love my Kase filters so much that not only do I very happily recommend them, I am also an affiliate seller too. Welcome to one of my favourite locations on the truly magical Isle of Skye, Neist Point Lighthouse. This location offers so many compositions, both high up from the cliff tops or as in this image, down by the lighthouse itself (if you can be bothered walking down a couple of hundred or so steps and back up again to reach the car park)
This is a wonderful section of rocks that allow for a great composition to have the rock island separated from the mainland as well as the lighthouse being highly visible too.
I hope you all like it. Have a great day.

Thursday morning promised much and it certainly delivered. Recent rain and cooler night temperatures often generate misty conditions in the valleys and on arriving 30 minutes before sunrise, the whole valley below me was completely filled with the most wonderful and mesmerising mist which ebbed and flowed like the ocean up and down the valley.
I filmed a 90 minute timelapse on my Canon EOS R of how sunrise unfolded. You can see if here. www.flickr.com/photos/melvin_nicholson/50404117152/in/dat...
I have added an additional image which is a heavily cropped section of the middle of the image to give you an idea of the quality of the Canon R5 and the RF 100-500mm that I used to capture it. I think considering the distance that the church is from me, the camera and lens did a remarkable job.
I am constantly being impressed by the capability of this new R5 and in particular, the latest RF 100-500mm that arrived at my hotel in Italy three weeks ago. That long lens is truly an amazing piece of kit. It is incredibly sharp and defined. This image was shot at 100mm.
p.s. I have decided to extend my stay in Slovenia by another couple of weeks. There are simply far too many beautiful places that I have yet to visit and experience. Slovenia has captured my heart and I have to admit that I was not quite expecting that. I do like lovely surprises.
Enjoy your day folks.

As my time in Australia draws to a close tomorrow and I fly back home to the UK, I am spending my final evening in this fine country editing a handful of images including this one of the magnificent Natural Bridge waterfall that I took yesterday.
This is a gorgeous waterfall that drops down into a cave covered plunge pool in the beautiful Springbrook National Park. Isn't it stunning?
The real treat was once the light had faded, the sight of hundreds of glow worms that line the underside of the cave's ceiling all lit up green. It was awesome to experience but incredibly difficult to photograph.

Sunrise Over Heraklion Port, Crete, Greece
One of the things about photography that I absolutely love is to sit down on a lazy afternoon and look through my images taken on recent trips/workshops and to be able to relive the happy memories and experiences that I really enjoyed at the time.
This particular image of sunrise over the port of Heraklion in Crete back in April 2019 reminds me of a glorious week on Greece's largest island. I do love a bit of the industrial landscape.
Regarding this image, it is a single exposure shot. The Canon EOS R mirrorless camera did a great job in allowing me to lighten the shadow areas without introducing colour noise etc although these days, I use a Canon R5 although I still have the EOS R as my backup camera and for time-lapses.

I am running a seven night, landscape photography northern lights workshop in Lofoten, Norway 7th-14th Nov 2019 £1,495. Click the link for more details.

Wow, what a fantastic experience I enjoyed on Saturday down at Reine. While photographing the usual scene of the red Rorbuer fisherman's cabins and the mountain, Ed, my travelling friend on this week long Lofoten recce for a winter workshop next year, shouted to me that a sundog had appeared behind me (otherwise known as a 22 degree halo).
On turning around, this glorious sundog was fully visible for some minutes which gave me enough time to carefully consider my composition to include part of the village below.
Ever since I captured my iconic Fogbow photo on Rannoch Moor in Scotland in November 2016, I have held a desire to photograph the 'bow trilogy', That encompasses a fogbow, a moonbow and a sunbow (sundog) and I am so delighted to have captured two of the three bows now. Just a moonbow to go.
Anyway, I hope you all enjoy the image. Have a great day.

There have been many times on my workshop these past couple of years where I have been rendered almost speechless and witnessing Gullfoss in full flow pre-dawn in the dark is one of them.
This shot was taken October 2017 during a beautiful morning. One of the main advantages in visiting Iceland in the autumn (by far my most favourite time of the year) is that the lower path down to this viewpoint is open and accessible because in the winter, with the snow and slippery ice, the authorities close it off relegating you to having to shoot from the top cliff which to my mind is not nearly as enjoyable.
The sheer power of this waterfall has you feel incredibly small and insignificant. The challenge for me and my clients was to capture this amazing location at its best.
Here's my take on Gullfoss

The beautiful but hauntingly titled Wailing Widow Falls at Loch na Gainmhich in Assynt, Scotland last week
Captured last week on my five day Assynt and Inverpolly workshop, the beautiful yet evocatively named Wailing Widow Waterfall hides in a short gorge that can be walked in around ten minutes or so from the main road.
I spent a few minutes waiting for my clients to get their shots while advising on the best composition but in fact it was a couple of my clients who captured a similar viewpoint to this ahead of me. Still the gorgeous mossy rocks in the foreground lead you into the waterfall superbly well while the stunning redness of the rock on the left hand side of the waterfall really injects a nice bit of colour into the scene.
I would have liked a little more water so I shall return in January to shoot it again when I head back up there.

Come and join me on my Harris and Lewis Photography Workshop 2nd-8th March 2019 £1,395
melvinnicholsonphotography.co.uk/product/harris-lewis-sco...
After a difficult day with the camera due to plenty of mist, drizzle and grey skies, I decided to venture down on my own to a little beach close to the cottage where I am staying near Uig on Lewis and what a gem of a find it was.
Once parked, I walked no more than ten minutes to reach a completely secluded beach with the tide some distance out. The sand was untouched and the feeling of complete isolation was something that I have been craving for since stepping onto the island on Saturday. Not because I don't enjoy the company of my good friends because I do but I often shoot solo and it's simply what you get use to.
I spent some time on the beach and the adjoining rocks until I settled on this random lobster pot. I set up the camera and waited twenty minutes for the water to get to me but when it did, it was more than worth the wait. The secret to these short exposure images is to shoot plenty of them because you cannot control how the water hits the lobster pot or how it is going to form on camera.
All told I am really happy with this photo and I hope you like it too.

Shot today during my workshop whilst my client was setting up his camera. Overcast skies and drizzle turned to gorgeous sunshine and wonderful cloud formations. Llanddwyn Island has a handful of lovely single beaches and the rock formations are just beautiful with some amazing colours to boot.
I framed the old lighthouse and boathouse in the distance (deliberately not centrally placed) with the rocks and single beach in the foreground. The sun illuminated the shingle whilst the rocks lit up like a Christmas tree. A wonderful day in a beautiful place with great company.
Have a great weekend everyone.

No Sailings Today, Derwentwater, Lake District
Here's an image from my day spent in the Lake District putting the E-M1 MK2 mirrorless camera that Olympus very kindly loaned me for a short while back in August 2019.
What better place to give the Olympus a good workout than at one of my favourite places in the Lakes, Derwentwater. There is so much to photograph that appeals to me (wooden jetties, boats, bays, packhorse bridges, rivers, waterfalls, and a very sizeable lake).
Before I normally venture up to Derwentwater, I check the government's Flood Information Service website (flood-warning-information.service.gov.uk/station/5178) the night before to see how high the water levels are at Lodore and on this particular day, the water level was high, especially for the height of summer (shows you just how much water had fallen that August).
Knowing the level of the water locally, I decided that I would pay Isthmus Bay a visit as just around the corner is this wonderful rustic red, metal boat rails that allow the local boatbuilding yard to launch repaired boats back into the water.
The stormy skies above added to the atmosphere of the occasion and the gorgeous lush, green foliage and trees all around reminded me that it was in fact summer.
Regarding the technique used to capture the water, I used my lovely Kase 10 Stop ND Filter which allowed me a shutter speed of thirty seconds, which was plenty of time to smooth out the water and create a lovely calm, ethereal and peaceful scene.
I have to say that I was rather impressed with the Olympus E-M1 MK2. Sure, the ultimate pixel quality cannot compete with my full frame Canon cameras but it held its own at the end of the day. Many thanks to Olympus for entrusting me with a plethora of camera equipment including the camera and several top quality lenses.

White Christmas at St Thomas Church, nr Škofja Loka, Slovenia
This image that I captured yesterday morning is just one of many featured in my latest video that I filmed yesterday for my YouTube channel.

Yesterday morning, I rose out of bed at 5am and drove an hour to reach the top of an elevated, partially icy hillside road that overlooks the gorgeous St Thomas Church in the background. I have been here on three occasions before and I always look forward to visiting. Here's a link to watch one of my timelapses from a previous visit (it's an amazing timelapse by the way ;-) flickr.com/photos/melvin_nicholson/50404117152/in
I arrived 20 minutes before sunrise but in truth, there was no sun to rise, only low lying cloud that was rolling by. Still, it was worth setting up both cameras, my Canon R5 for stills and my Canon EOS R which was used to film me talking about how I go about creating the images I was about to shoot.
I was there over two hours, watching the low cloud roll through the scenery in front of me and it was glorious. There was a gorgeous blue hue offering up as a backdrop to the white church and snow and a seriously fierce hoar frost overnight had all the trees turn white. I was in landscape photography heaven I can tell you.
So here is one of the images that I captured and I will show many more from my day out with my camera yesterday in my upcoming YouTube video. This will be my first video on location since Lofoten Feb 2019. I hope it is going to be worth the wait ;-)
Enjoy and thank you for your support as always.

JUST 2 PLACES LEFT on my Sept 2021 Tuscany Photo Tour
melvinnicholsonphotography.co.uk/product/tuscany-italy-ph...
********************************************************************************
Sunrise at the Chapel of the Madonna di Vitaleta, Tuscany, Italy
Today, for one reason or another, has had me wish I was back in Tuscany. I watched a film the other evening called 'Made In Italy' with Liam Neeson and his real life son Micheál Richardson. It was set in Tuscany and for almost two hours, I sat and reminisced about my weeks spent in the same region. The gorgeous sunrises and sunsets over some of the prettiest scenery I have ever seen.
Tuscany really is a painters/photographers dream for the scenery is sublime and it is so easy to imagine sitting on a terrace outside your hilltop villa looking out over extraordinary views.
This scene here is one of my favourites, if not my ultimate favourite. The Chapel of the Madonna di Vitaleta is a beautiful little chapel that nestles high up on a hilltop which affords it views that look far and wide into the distance. It is a stunning view looking from the roadside as I was here waiting for the sun to rise and illuminate the valley. The Cyprus trees that flank all sides of the chapel frame the building beautifully.
Oh, how to be back there right now. Well, I shall be in September running my autumn workshop. If you would like to join me, I have just two places available. melvinnicholsonphotography.co.uk/product/tuscany-italy-ph...

Post Sunset, Solkan Railway Bridge, Solkan, Slovenia
Having visited this location during the day time, I opted to return to capture a long exposure image just after the sun had set and the traffic intensified as people headed home after work.
The image turned out better than I had dared to hope due to numerous roads and the main railway bridge being lit. I think that the light is beautiful and really showcases the various bridges off wonderfully well.
The railway bridge at the bottom of the image is the Solkan Bridge, and with an arch span of 85 metres, it has the world's longest arch span of any railroad bridge (or so I believe anyway), mainly because later construction technology used reinforced concrete to build bridges (thanks Wikipedia :D ).
It was built in 1905 but restored by the Italians in 1927 after a horrific blast saw the arch fall into the Soca River below. It measures 220 metres in length and 36 metres in height. It spans the gorgeous green coloured waters of the Soca River, itself a river measuring 138km in length and running through Slovenia into northeastern Italy.

A newly edited image not seen before. I remember this amazing display like it was yesterday but it was actually taken way back in March 2017 during my first week alone in Iceland.
I had just driven the short journey from the iconic black Budir Church nearby around midnight to capture the aurora over this wonderful emergency hut that is located by the roadside at the top of a mountain pass.
As beautiful as this scene is, being all alone at the top of a mountain pass at midnight is quite an eerie experience. While I was stood in this very spot capturing this particular scene, I swear that I could hear footprints in the snow behind me yet every time I turned around, I could see nothing there. It was quite unnerving I can tell you but just look at that view, it was enchanting.
Whenever I start seeing the aurora developing in the sky, I start feeling like a child on Christmas morning. There's an excitement that washes over me and I cannot help but feel mesmerised at the sheer beauty of one of the earth's most amazing wonders.

I love the wonderful little fishing village of Arnarstapi because it offers so many opportunities to capture some stunning locations. One of my favourites is this beautiful white house that nestles in the shadow of the volcano of Snaefellsnes. The coastline sea stacks are rugged and full of character. Arnarstapi has a very small fishing harbour and these wonderful snow covered sea stacks create a dramatic scene.

There are few places that I visit that look so perfect, that they require little or no editing in Photoshop but my visit to the utterly mesmorising Alpe di Siusi in the Dolomites a couple of weeks ago was one such occasion.
There's something about Europe's highest Alpine meadow that radiates a softness, a sort of a 'Disney' look, so perfect it looks like a scene from an animation movie. With it's 10,500ft mountain range, gorgeous trees and rolling hills complete with wooden alpine lodges dotted about the place, it's just beyond words really.

This gorgeous little loch nestles just one mile east from the centre of Lochinver and it offers stunning views of Suilven and the trees reflected in the calm waters at dawn.
Parking the minibus in the main car park and a brisk ten minute walk down to the water's edge affords you this view. Isn't it just magical?
Assynt is full of outstanding scenery and my five clients enjoyed the various places that I took them to this week on my Assynt and Inverpolly workshop.

One of my favourite stretches of river anywhere in Scotland, part of the wonderful Cauldron Falls near the Kings House Hotel on Rannoch Moor. This image was taken back in November 2016 and I am still editing images further back than then due to having shot a vast number of images these last 18 months or so.
To have such a huge number of images to wade through and edit is in part frustrating but hugely enjoyable as I get to relive my time on location in the most beautiful parts of the UK (and Iceland and Ireland too).
The morning I took this shot, my phone was going crazy as Fogbow hurtled around the world on its quest for worldwide domination, ha, ha. I had to cut my day short and return to the hotel to deal with emails, phone calls etc. But I look back on that Tuesday morning with pleasure for the peace and serenity that the location offered me was in direct contrast to the hustle and bustle I was to face an hour later back at the hotel.
I hope you all like it. If you would like to take images like these or visit the gorgeous places I do on my photography tours, come and join me this November for my four day Glencoe photography tour. You'd be more than welcome.

Ville di Corsano, Tuscany, Italy
This view awaited me on my very first day in Tuscany way back in September 2019 as I was driving to my hotel in San Quirico d'Orcia. The light was especially wonderful in that it only lit up small areas at a time due to the white fluffy clouds blocking out some of the sun.
I quickly pulled in a layby and set up the camera and spent the following hour or so being mesmorised by the utterly stunning view this part of Italy possesses.

I have finally found some time to look back through my extensive portfolio of images from my three months travelling around various countries and I am sat at my PC smiling ear to ear while looking at this image of a truly mesmorising morning at the iconic Belverdere Farmhouse in Tuscany.
I spent eight days travelling alone in September, discovering all the wonders that Tuscany has to offer and I was completely blown away by the sheer beauty, serenity and peacefulness of the place.
San Quirico d'Orcia in particular (where I was based), was the heart and soul of the region and is famous for having swirling mist rolling down and through the valley below and I had these conditions on several mornings. It was just magical. Even my hotel balcony had views looking over the valley (Casanova Hotel and Spa).

This was taken yesterday afternoon during a two day 1-2-1 with Gareth, a regular client of mine. I love Anglesey and it is a wonderful island full of gems, some revealed and some hidden and this location at Rhoscolyn is a place that I have been wanting to visit for about three years now and yesterday I had the chance to do so so I took Gareth along to see what he would make of it too.
He was not disappointed. Me too. The walk down to the water's edge is erm....let's just say....quite steep on grass (don't go down if wet otherwise you'll slide off the huge grassy slope and into the water and that would be fatal). But we both managed to descend down to the water's edge with lots of care and attention but the effort was so worth it.
The seas were raging, with huge waves crashing against the cliffs and rocks. We stood far enough back to avoid the waves themselves (just) but close enough to really capture the action in full flight. It was so exhilarating and exciting to photograph such a fantastic looking place so full of drama. I will definitely be returning on my next visit.
I hope you all like the photograph and please feel free to SHARE if you wish.

Looking back at some of the places I visited during this year, I really have been so blessed to witness some extraordinary scenes. This one from my time spent in Iceland in February was one of them. The beautiful little harbour of Arnarstapi was a real pleasure to photograph.
To me the quality of a place is confirmed by the fact that ten months on, I am still finding images to process and showcase and Iceland truly is one such place. Until you have travelled across its expanse of land covered in the most glorious and pristine snow and ice, it's hard to imagine. The sights will stay with me forever.
