One of several magnificent waterfalls on Paddock Beck which runs toward Askrigg in Wenselydale. Mill Gill Force is just beautiful, cutting its way into a gorge with lush vegetation around it. A lot easier to access than Whitfield Gill Force too.

The Mill, when open,i believe still works and is fed by the River Stour,to the left of the mill.

The forefront shows the two outlets of the mill to the small moat which is nearly dry at the moment.

The historic building is located just off the A614 near the village of Skidby and surrounded by picturesque countryside. Built in 1821, the windmill has been grinding grain for nearly two centuries! It produces its own wholemeal flour, ground between one of its three pairs of mill stones and powered by its four 12-metre sails, each weighing more than 1.25 tonnes apiece.

Three Mills Island on The River Lea, Bromley By Bow, Newham, East London. The tidal mills were once used to grind grain used to distil alcohol. The mills were a major supplier to the alcohol trade and gin palaces of London.

This mill operated until 1952 but now houses The Harris Science Academy East London.

A morning shot taken across Mill Pond from our dock last Saturday. It is two exposures blended in Photomatix. This was taken the same day as the previous dragonfly images on November 28th. We had zero inches of snowfall in November in MPLS or here at the pond in WI. I will not complain one bit.

Cotehele Mill, which draws its water from the Morden Stream in the Tamar Valley (and was formerly known as Morden Mill), is part of the Cotehele Estate, which is owned by the National Trust. The Grade II-listed working mill, which produces wholemeal flour, dates back to the 18th century, though it was remodelled in the 19th century. There is believed to have been a watermill here since medieval times. In the 1860s the tenants, a family named Langsford, extended the mill by adding a sawmill on one side and a bakery on the other. A second water wheel was added to power the sawmill. The buildings surrounding the mill were used as stables, cowsheds, a hayloft and a ‘cherry house’ for storing cherries. The last of these buildings was added in the 1890s and they are now set up as a selection of estate and craft workshops.

The Pin Mill at Bodnant Garden in Conwy, Wales, was originally built as a lodge or garden house around 1730 at Woodchester, Gloucestershire. The building was later used as a pin factory and later still as a hide store for a tannery. Henry McLaren, 2nd Baron Aberconway purchased the Pin Mill when it was derelict and arranged for it to be dismantled, transported and reassembled at Bodnant in 1938–39. The architect J. Murray Easton made some repairs and sensitive alterations.

The Pin Mill was designated a Grade II*-listed building in 1952 as a fine example of an early Georgian garden building.

The storeyed central tower has a pyramidal roof and is symmetrically flanked by two lower pavilions.

Rishworth

The mill dam, mill race, weir and sluice gate are Grade II Listed. The dam previously provided water for the 19th century textile mills in this area, the largest and the only remaining one has now been converted into apartments. Work is underway by a group called ‘The Friends of a Rishworth Mill Dam’ to renovate this whole area, work will include repairing the remaining sluice gates and clearing the silt away from the dam itself. The area is very popular with nesting birds, particularly moorhens who build their nests by a small island which has formed near the centre.

We’ve been here a few times throughout the year on our daily Covid walks, in the comment box below is a photo taken in the spring from a similar position. Things look a little different now, no sign of the moorhens today but the ducks were still there.

This shot was taken a couple of minutes after the previous upload, looking back towards the old sluice gate from further along the path.

The Dells Mill is located in Augusta, Wisconsin, United States. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974. The structure was built as a gristmill. A mill pond was created near-by. Currently, the site is used as a museum

This photo was taken back in the 1980s at Mill Lake in Abbotsford, BC. Snowfall is very rare here, specially in these quantities, but I still can't recall the date. This was scanned from a photograph taken with my old Ricoh XR2S.

The day I went the water was raging pretty good from rains a few days before. Last Friday 8-11 inches of rain fell upstream o I can imagine how that water is flowing today.

Luddenden

This extensive mill complex is in an open setting on the hillside above Luddenden village. It was founded by John Murgatroyd & Son in 1847, it was named after the family house which had been built in 1645. It operated as a worsted spinning and manufacturing works. It was one of the largest concerns in the upper Calder valley. A road divides the site in half, the earliest building being on the right of the photograph. It was steam powered from the beginning, comprising of a three storey mill, an engine house and a tall chimney. An additional four storey mill was added around 1855. The mill expanded on to the opposite side of the road, on the left of picture, in 1863, and again during 1886 and 1887 under the supervision of the architect T. Lister Padgett of Halifax. The large single storey sheds with the saw tooth roofs were added to house combing and weaving machinery, whilst the multi storey buildings were used for preparation and spinning. At its peak it employed around 2000 people.

The mill was severely damaged by fire in February 1989, the building on the left was totally gutted. It has been sympathetically replaced by an apartment block, the whole mill complex is now residential or holiday rental accommodation. Prices range to purchase an apartment from around £190,000 to over £300,000 depending on the size.

Short walk from Askrigg in Wensleydale brought us to this great place

The Old Mill House is a replica of the Perryman's Mill which closed in 1887. The new "Old Mill" was built by the Jemison Company to promote the newly-developed residential suburb of Mountain Brook. It is located on the foundations of the earlier grist mill, on the bank of Shades Creek.

A fabulous old mill -found in Fertile, Iowa along the Winnebago River.

Unfortunately to save this grand old place - they converted to apartments hence the decks on the side.

Still though, a quaint setting with the morning light!

Sixes Mill was originally build around 1820 by gold prospectors and later rebuilt between 1878 and 1880. It is located near Kennesaw, GA on Sixes Rd exit 11 off I-575.

This mill is on private property and photos have to be taken from the side of the road. Sadly, tall fence posts have been installed and depending on what type fence is mounted, the photographer's view could be effected.

From the early 17th century, through to the early 19th century Blackpool Mill was important for its iron furnace and ford. This is my Hasselblad version of the Callington Mill, and it is interesting to compare it with the previous Rolleiflex photographs. The mill and surrounding buildings have been fully restored and are now (I'm very glad to say) part of a wonderful new Whisky Distillery. It is great to see the old mill looking so good again. So when you visit Oatlands in Tasmania's southern Midlands, please do have a dram to celebrate this restoration.

I took this shot of Gibson Mill to see how it turned out with the 35 mm lens. I would have liked to get further away so as to include more of the reflections in the image, but that wasn’t possible because of a drop into the river behind me.

My first trip to Pin Mill, Suffolk. These are the typical shots of the old boats left decaying on the shore. The ground was still icy and the tide was out.
