I haven't been on a photo shoot, so I dug this out of the archives
Sixes Mill was originally build around 1820 by gold prospectors and later rebuilt between 1878 and 1880. It is located near Kennesaw, GA on Sixes Rd exit 11 off I-575.
This mill is on private property and photos have to be taken from the side of the road. Sadly, tall fence posts have been installed and depending on what type fence is mounted, the photographer's view could be effected.

I took this shot of Gibson Mill to see how it turned out with the 35 mm lens. I would have liked to get further away so as to include more of the reflections in the image, but that wasn’t possible because of a drop into the river behind me.
Thank you for your visit and your comments, they are greatly appreciated.

Built around 1865, the 20 stamp mill ran until 1875. For a while it was the primary mill for the mines of Ione. In the 1890's the machinery was moved to the (still standing) mill at Berlin, where it can be viewed as one of the main exhibits of Berlin-Ichthyosaur State Historical Park.
To the left of the ruined wall, and across Ione Valley is Paradise Peak in the Paradise Range.
Mill ponds were often created through the construction of a mill dam or weir (and mill stream) across a waterway.
In many places, the common proper name Mill Pond has remained even though the mill has long since gone. It may be fed by a man-made stream,[3] known by several terms including leat and 'mill stream'. The channel or stream leading from the mill pond is the mill race, which together with weirs, dams, channels and the terrain establishing the mill pond, delivers water to the mill wheel to convert potential and/or kinetic energy of the water to mechanical energy by rotating the mill wheel. The production of mechanical power is the purpose of this civil engineering hydraulic system

One of my personal favorites, I used a selective color technique to highlight the gold and yellow tones and mute the other colors. This mill is only accessible via a very bumpy 4x4 road. It has become a very popular place for photographers and I've heard that the owner is now charging a fee to access the mill.
Built in 1837 in Oatlands, Tasmania. The windmill had it's sails restored in 2010, having lost them in a storm way back in 1909.
No, it's not the UK, but right here in NEOhio. We hadn't bicycled Mill Creek Park (Boardman, Ohio) in many years, and I was happy to find the old mill still looking good. This local treasure was built in 1845 and restored to its working condition in 1982. It operates today as it did in the 1800s, grinding corn, wheat, and buckwheat. The products are made and sold on premises.
I went to Lang Pioneer Village today. I got this shot of the Mill. There was a tour inside which I thourougly enjoyed. It was like steping back into history.
Aldie Mill is a water mill in Aldie, Virginia built shortly after 1804 to grind grain using the waters of the Little River. Retaining much of its original machinery, it is one of the best-preserved mills in Virginia. Wikipedia
Another site on our round-about way home from Washington DC. Aldie is a tiny hamlet just outside the town of Middleburg VA which I think is considered the horse capital of the state of Virginia. I was interested to see that this old mill had two waterwheels. Not something I've seen before. Have a wonderful weekend everyone! :)
Darley Abbey Mills or Boar's Head Mills, was built for and run by the Evans family of Darley Abbey. The Boar's Head featured in the families coat of alms, and was also used by them as a brand, logo and trademark. The Mills are now part of the Derwent Valley Mills Heritage Trail, and carry World Heritage Status. The river in the foreground, is the (Derbyshire) Derwent, and the stretch just below the weir, formed the limit of navigation for boats arriving via the former Derby Canal. Thus connecting the mills to the national canal network, and a number of the UK's ports.

HSS! For this image of the Maynard mills, I used the Lightroom Antique preset with some tweaks to the exposure to try to get the details to show better.
The first mill in Maynard, Massachusetts, was the Assabet Woolen Mill in 1847. In 1898 it was acquired by American Woolen Company, which continued to operated through World War I. In 1957 Digital Equipment Corporation was founded in rented office space in the mill complex. DEC purchased the entire complex in 1974, having become a leading manufacturer of minicomputers. By 1993, DEC failed and the buildings are now used as office space for multiple companies. The Assabet River flows in the foreground.
