This is an ancient mill on the city ramparts of Bremen. There used to be 6 of them on the ramparts - only one is left. And the name "Coffee Mill" (Kaffeemühle in German) refers to a café and restaurant in the mill.

I love this old red grist mill in Balmoral Mills, NS, especially when surrounded by autumn colors. My husband and I had a lovely drive last Sunday and I was hoping to get photos of the water cascading down the other side but the gate to the stairway was nailed shut and I would have climbed around and through the fence but there was a wedding party taking photos right beside the gate so I decided to behave. Darn.

The Balmoral Grist Mill Museum is a restored 1874 water powered grist mill and is part of the Nova Scotia Museum system. Alexander MacKay owned this water-powered grist mill in the 1880s. It could be used to grind wheat, oats, barley, rye, and buckwheat into flour and meal. The Scottish oat-drying kiln is unique.

I grew up in a house beside this small river which those days provided a small mill with enough power to grind the corn from the local farms.

The "De Onrust" windmill was built in 1809 to drain the Naardermeer. The 15-meter high mill controls the water level of this nearly 700-hectare swamp area, without the support of another pumping station.

The scoop wheel moves approximately 10 m³ of water per revolution. For this the wick cross turns twice. To achieve a level reduction of 1 cm, one day (approximately 16 hours) with good wind is needed.

Mill was restored in the 1980's

The Old Mill is one of the oldest structures in the area. A man named Mordecai Lewis moved to Tennessee from Virginia and bought the land the mill sits on. His grandson, William Love, built the mill in 1830 to grind corn. Pigeon Forge.

After three days in Amsterdam, we wanted to see the countryside of Holland. We found a nice excursion: Zannsee Schans, Volendam, the island of Marken, and a full afternoon at the fantastic Keukenhof park, which we wabsolutely wanted to see in the famous splendor of its tulips. I can already say that we were amazed.

Here we arrive at Zannsee Schanns, with a spectacular view. It's a small village with a lot of preserved vintage mills.

How-Beckham Mill, Wisconsin

DOEL (Belg.) - The windmill of Doel was built in 1613-1614 during the 12-years truce of Treves, at the same time that the village was laid out according a geometrical plan. Back then, it was already a stone mill, which makes it one of the oldest surviving stone mills in the country. It was restored in 1958 and served now as a restaurant. When the Saeftinghedocks will be constructed, the mill is planned to be rebuilt in another location.

The Spaulding Grist Mill

South Street, Townsend Harbor, MA

The grinding stones of this mill were driven by a horizontal wheel powered by water from the Squannacook River. The mill processed corn and grain grown by local farmers until it closed in the 1920s. It is currently closed to the public while under repair.

ZAANDAM / HAALDERSBROEK - Zaanse Schans is a small village on the banks of the Zaan river, complete with tidy green houses, real working windmills, and small topical museums such as the Clock Museum and the first Albert Heijn store.

In the 17th and 18th century there were thousands of windmills along the dykes; sawmills, dye mills, oil mills etc that powered the Dutch economy. The Zaanse Schans village gives you a picture of what it must have been like. Not all the windmills and buildings started out in Zaanse Schans, many of them were moved here from the region as they came under threat from urban development across North Holland.

The windmills are all working mills, and the perform various functions, including a saw mill, a paint mill (grinding pigments), and oil mill (grinding linseed or peanuts to draw off the oil).
