最近気に入っている写真家Joel Meyerowitzを真似て夏の夕方に撮影。家に帰って彼の写真集を見るとだいぶ違っていた。

Imitating my new favorite photographer, Joel Meyerowitz, I shot on a summer evening. When I got home and looked at his photo book, mine was quite different.

Happy belated birthday to Madison Blanche! ♥
Midsummer - grain fields are already being harvested. In the past, this was August, which was known for its harvest time and its hot dog days. A stubble field near Dechsendorf, the intense sun with its picture-filling rays, which captured the Canada geese, produced an almost surrealistic motif/image just before sunset yesterday.
Many picture titles/descriptions come to mind....
It's midsummer! Or well, it was. And as usual, it was cold, rainy and this time also very windy.
It's somehow a written rule that every midsummer needs to be rainy and cold. Sometimes we even get snow. It had been really warm and dry since May and of course it starts raining when it's time to celebrate midsummer outside!
Thankfully the rains removed most forest fire warnings that would have prevented burning the traditional midsummer bonfire. I didn't see one this year but at least I had fun in every other way that is traditional to midsummer! A lot of grilling, hanging out and sleeping at a cottage and let's not forget all those mosquitoes! The joy.

In Sweden, the most common celebration of midsummer is linked to dancing around a midsummer rod - a leafy and flower-wound rod or pile, either in the form of a cross with wreaths hanging from cross-country or one or more larger wreaths hanging in strips and wrapping the pile.
You make rings and dance around the bar while singing the famous play guards. The midsummer bar probably came to Sweden from Germany in the 1300s or 1400s. It is also known as a cane, some of the stems of the aged word maja, meaning "jewelry with leaves." Others believe that the name comes from German Maibaum.
Having a flower wreath in the hair is common during midsummer, mainly among children and women. You can tie them with birch or steel wire as a base and add leaves and flowers.
In Midsummer, it is common in Sweden to eat food sauce, sour cream and chives, fresh potatoes and strawberries for dessert. Midsummer is largely associated with just the fresh potato, which is usually served with dill. Many drink snaps to the food.
Linked to Midsummer, there is also a strong tradition of alcohol consumption in connection with the celebration , which makes Midsummer weekend one of the times of the year when most fuss and noise occur.
“…І на світанку вмиється Земля
Ранковою холодною росою.
І буде чути пісню солов'я,
А не ревіння літаків над головою…” /Олена Горголь-Ігнатьєва “Украдена весна”
“…And at dawn, the Earth will be washed
With cold morning dew.
And the song of the nightingale will be heard,
Not the roar of airplanes overhead…” /Olena Gorgol-Ignatieva “Stolen Spring “

It is an old custom to light fires on the lake shores on Midsummer night. One of the original purposes of bonfires has been to keep evil spirits away.

武蔵村山市のひまわり園へ行ってきました。
残念なことに10日ほど前の強風で背の高いひまわりは折れてしまったそうです。でもこの角度から見ると武蔵野台地もなかなかです。
I went to the sunflower garden in Musashimurayama.
Unfortunately, the strong wind about 10 days ago broke the tall sunflower. But from this angle, the Musashino Plateau looks cool.

Anything less like midsummer was hard to imagine as the rain fell more or less continually on our walk this morning. Still, at least the rain brings out the green.

At 4:50 a.m., the sun rose on the longest day of the year. Yet, I had already risen early, packed my gear, and driven to a small lake where I could observe a kingfisher. The evening before, the bird had sat patiently on a perch for a long time, hunting diligently. It was completely undisturbed by my presence, standing just a few meters away at the lakeshore, camouflaged behind the foliage with my camera at the ready.
At that time, taking photos was impossible because the light was too poor. This inspired me to return at sunrise. I reached the observation spot around 4:50 a.m., and to my delight, the kingfisher was already perched and waiting! It took another hour for the sun to shine fully on the scene, during which the bird came and went—hunting, resting, or simply sitting—until I finally captured this shot.
Eventually, the sun moved higher and cast its full glow over the lakeshore. The kingfisher sought a new vantage point, and the magic of that moment faded away.
