After the two base sections were complete, I used some more 1 3/8" x 5/8" strips to create the height of the columns, which were slightly over 6' tall.

Drilled holes in the top boards tight enough to hold the strips standing, then reinforced with screws at the bottom.

Male American Alligator, Alligator Farm, St. Augustine, FL

I found this litte YouTube video shot at the Alligator Farm online. The video sucks, but it give you a pretty good idea what this mating call actually sounds like. A few of my friends thought it's fake... from a tape... but trust me it was darn real. I had heard it before, but never saw the gators that frisky.

This guy here definitely was The Boss, he was the biggest gator around and made the water bubble around him:

Although alligators have no vocal cords, males bellow loudly to attract mates and warn off other males during mating season by sucking air into their lungs and blowing it out in intermittent, deep-toned roars.

Male alligators are also known to use infrasound during their mating behavior, as one of their routines is to engage in bellowing in infrasound while their head and tail is above the water, with their midsection very slightly submerged, making the surface of the water that is directly over their back literally "sprinkle" from their infrasound bellowing, in a so-called "water dance".

I should have brought my P&S to "film it".

Annette was on the other side of the boardwalk and got a shot of the whole gator doing it's mating dance, water bubbling routine.

BOUDICCA

Passenger Cruise ship owner operated by Fred Olsen Cruise Lines.

Built in 1973 in Helsinki shipyard, Finland as Royal Viking and sailed under the Royal Viking Line.

Boudicca was acquired by Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines in 2005. The line also operates its sister ship, the former Royal Viking Star, as the popular Black Watch.

Boudicca was "stretched" in the early 1980s with the addition of a 91-foot midsection, gaining a considerable amount of open-air sunbathing space on the top deck.

Are Dresses for Apple Shape Figures good?

The right dress for the apple body shape skims over the midsection without clinging to the body. A-line dresses, empire-line and bias-cut styles are great examples of dresses that take attention away from the mid-riff. ‍Wrap dresses are also great, as they tailor the midriff by visually lifting the bust.

DongFeng 15 (Export name: M-9; NATO codename: CSS-6, Chinese: East Wind 15), a Short-Range Ballistic Missile, is the only non-nuclear missile in service with the PLA Second Artillery Corps (i.e. strategic missile force).

The missile shown here is most probably a DongFeng15B, which is fitted with four small fins at midsection for corrections at the final phase of the flight.

This vehicle is a TAS5450 or WS2400 8X8 transporter-erector-launcher (TEL) vehicle.

Apparently, only after this vehicle had paraded passed the Tiananmen Square was the camuoflage sheet pulled over the missile.

A large 13th Century gothic castle, first mentioned in 1350, which was destroyed in Bohemian-Hungarian wars in the 15th Century. It was a quite large castle complex with triple configuration - a large and long bailey, three main trechnes, a midsection and a separate core. The disposition is still well visible, a path follows the first trench around the bailey, through the second and third trench up to the core. Two drawbridges isolated the core, which was otherwise surrounded by inaccessible steep rocks. It´s well walkable and very popular by tourists.

oh, and it was a good one!

my dad always cut up the fruit for salad and I wasn't part of the process much.

if I'm going to eat melon, I usually go for watermelon over all others.

I decided to live on the wild side, mix it up, and go for the honeydew.

View of the sunken concrete ship at Cape May Point, taken from the top of the WWII lookout Tower.

S. S. Atlantus

The S. S. Atlantus is probably the most famous concrete ship. She was built by the Liberty Ship Building Company in Brunswick, Georgia and launched on December 5, 1918 and was the second concrete ship constructed in the World War I Emergency Fleet.

The war had ended a month earlier, but the Atlantus was used to transport American troops back home from Europe and also to transport coal in New England. In 1920, the ship was retired to a salvage yard in Virginia.

In 1926, the Atlantus was purchased by Colonel Jesse Rosenfeld to be used as ferry dock in Cape May, New Jersey for a proposed ferry between Cape May and Cape Henlopen, DE. The plan was to dig a channel into to the shore where the Atlantus would be placed. Two other concrete ships would be purchased to form a Y-shape where the ferry would dock.

In March 1926, the groundbreaking ceremonies were held for the construction of the ferry dock. The Atlantus was repaired and towed to Cape May. On June 8th, a storm hit and the ship broke free of her moorings and ran aground 150 feet off the coast of Sunset Beach. Several attempts were made to free the ship, but none were successful.

Since then the Atlantus has become a tourist attraction seen by millions. People used to swim out to the ship and dive off, until one young man drowned. At one time, a billboard was also placed on the ship. Starting in the late 50's, the ship began to split apart in the midsection.

Some of the detail on the portable shrine can be seen in this view. Before the 70 or 80 carriers crowd around the frame to lift it onto their shoulders, the midsection of the mikoshi will be swaddled in pure fabric to protect the smaller parts from being damaged by the evening’s commotion of jerking side to side or lifting up and down rapidly to cause the tassels to dance and the top half of the structure to shimmy on its suspension. The illuminated building north of the mikoshi is the shrine shop which sells amulets, blank wooden tablets for inscribing prayers, and other mementos marked with the shrine's name.

In the new museum, multilevel areas of the ship are recreated with the artifacts discovered there. In this image, you can see the antiboarding netting above the deck. Wikipedia notes, "What turned the sinking into a major tragedy in terms of lives lost was the anti-boarding netting that covered the upper decks in the waist (the midsection of the ship) and the sterncastle. With the exception of the men who were stationed in the tops in the masts, most of those who managed to get up from below deck were trapped under the netting; they would have been in view of the surface, and their colleagues above, but with little or no chance to break through, and were dragged down with the ship. Out of a crew of at least 400, fewer than 35 escaped, a catastrophic casualty rate of over 90%."

I took this photo when I visited Cape May NJ this past summer. Our family has been going to Cape May for years and I remember when this ship was whole and setting out in the Ocean. Below is a small bit of history I found at:

The 12-story Beaux-Arts cooperative-apartment building at 364 - 366 Broadway was completed in 1907. Designed by Frederick C. Browne as an office building, it is also known as the Broadway Textile Building. It is faced in brick and limestone with terra-cotta trim. Each facade is divided into three parts — a base, a midsection, and a top. The 2-story terra-cotta top section has double-height paired and fluted pilasters flanking window openings. On the 3-bay Broadway facade, seven of the eight floors of the midsection feature vermiculated stone banding. The lowest story of this section is faced in smooth limestone and is topped by a cornice with a Greek key frieze. Window openings of alternate stories have scroll keystones with carved faces

The 2-story base of the building has double-height banded and fluted end piers. A stone frieze which separates the 1st and 2nd floors has applied letters reading "Bernard Semel, Inc.," advertising the dry goods firm which once occupied the building. Between the end piers, storefront bays are divided at the first story by painted Ionic columns; historic transoms remain. The northernmost ground-story bay has been filled with stainless steel and a pair of metal and glass doors. Bays at the 2nd floor are divided by elaborate piers with garlands and female heads and have paired windows.

The 3-bay-wide end portions of the Franklin Street facade follow the same overall design and articulation of detail as the Broadway facade. The center section of the Franklin Street facade is five bays wide and is executed more simply with brick banding. The five center windows of the 11th floor have protruding metal oriels and are flanked by double-height paired columns. The three bays at each end of the base of the Franklin Street facade follow the Broadway design, as well. Banded stone pilasters flank the five center bays. Spandrels between the 1st and 2nd floors have carved rosettes and foliate detailing. Most ground-floor bays are filled with show windows with transoms.

Many years ago, I built a couple of spaceships that were White, with Red Stripes. This is a continuation, of sorts, but much smaller.

Inspired, amongst other things, by Homeworld concept art, The Expanse, UNSC ships from Halo, and many and varied artworks from across the internet.

In terms of the build, I'm very pleased with the engines in particular. They came together in a single build session, along with the angled panels behind the red stripe made with those spiky angle plates. It was just one of those moments where everything came together just so, which was nice.

Also pleased with the missile pods, which is the gimmick that this built started with. I found two coffins in my Box of Bits That Don't Fit Anywhere Else in My Sorting System, so I resolved to make use of them. They were initially larger, using 1x1 barrels, but they proved to be overpoweringly large, so I shrunk them down just to 1x1 round plates, offset with a second every other slot. If I had 26 1x1 round tiles in the same (non-transparent) colour I'd have used them, but I don't. Oh well.

There's quite a lot of angular nonsense going on to line the panels on either side of the missile pods, and it's not quite to the same angle as the 3x6 wedge, but it's close enough.

The nose is the simplest part of the ship, but I've tried to balance the length against the rather hefty engine and midsection.

I'm planning on assembling a small fleet for STEAM, so we'll see what more variations on the White/Red/DkRed (with DkGrey engines, TrBlue windows) theme I can come up with. I have ideas aplenty, the challenge now is making something from the ideas.

(I may or may not have a similarly sized WIP, but hollow and aircraft-carrier-y on my desk already. I also also may have ideas for a certain September theme month... we shall see...)

There are a couple of procedures that are very common. The first focuses on your midsection and helps firm it up, and having a tummy tuck in Beverly Hills is exactly what you need if you're tired of having a loose, flabby belly.

One more eastbound, with a pair of UP motors, rolls out of Beverly onto the detour route. There was another eastbound waiting at Beverly, but we had seen enough and decided to head for home. Overall a great day of train watching. 93 was certainly an interesting year. After the spring flooding on the Cedar River, things would only get worse. Above average summer rainfall caused most Midwestern rivers to overflow. It forced railroads to use whatever detour route they could find to get across the nation's midsection for much of the summer.
