Grains of quinoa soaked until they almost sprout. Taken through 100x objective, and then focus stacked.
Electron microscope, or EM, images of a section of the human brain generated at the Allen Institute. This technique allows researchers to map brain tissue down to the level of its individual connections, or synapses.
Found in a Sheffield wood in March. The last record for the Sheffield area seems to be 1905. The spores turn dark blue in iodine. This fragile crust is related to Russula. Basidia on the left at different levels of focus, stained in ammoniacal Congo red. Spores on the right, stained in Meltzer's iodine.
Attempt 1 - I have no idea what this is but it was my first attempt, hopefully will improve in weeks to come and will work out what this was too!!

Yet now have the possibility of using magnification of 50-400x or more. Another stacking system needs to be invented, too.
