"Cooking: Cooking methods of present-day Pueblo women are probably much like those used centuries ago. Roasting was done over a pit oven - a kind of fireless cooker in the ground. The pit was heated with hot stones. When it was very hot, food was put in the pit, the mouth of the pit was covered with a stone and left until roasting was completed. Without refrigeration, meat could only be preserved by drying in the sun or in the smoke of a slow fire. Cooking jars were decorated with corrugations. Painted designs would soon be covered by soot. FIres were started with a fire drill. Drilling Fire was more difficult than striking a match, so live coals may often have been borrowed from a neighbour's firepit. Metate and mano, the stones with which corn and other seeds were ground. They were also used to ground clays and paint pigments, and to crush rock or sherds for pottery temper. Examples: Wooden scoop, pottery ladles, Pottery mug, Pottery pitcher, and Piki bread. A Modern Pueblo Recipe for Preparing Broad-leafed Yucca Fruit: Gather the fruit when it opens in September. Cut it into strips and put it in the sunshine to dry. After it is thoroughly dry, put it away for winter time. To cook, let it boil for three hours in plenty of water. Let the water boil down then stir till it is like jam. Serve with corn dumplings. A Modern Pueblo Recipe for Preparing Giant Dropseed. Giant Dropseed is gathered in the fall and threshed, then ground with corn in the metate into a fine meal. From this, a tasty mush can be made. Start a fire in the pik-ami pit two hours before making dough. Put the meal in a large bowl and pour in boiling water. Stir with a stick until it is cool enough to stir with the hand. Pour the dough into a pot and put it in the pik-ami pit, which must be good and hot. Put the lid on the pot so as not to let any dirt get in, and a flat stone over the pit, then seal with mud. Build a fire on top of it and leave it overnight. Open the pit in the morning. Stir till it is soft and mushy, and serve with stew. A Modern Pueblo Recipe for Piki Bread: Grind blue corn very fine on the metate. Mix with water and the ashes of sagebrush to a very thin batter (the sagebrush ash brings out the blue color). Spread quickly with the hand on a flat, heated stone under which there are hot embers. It bakes almost instantly and is peeled off the stone in thin sheets like blue crepe paper. A Modern Pueblo Recipe for Preparing Prickly Pear Cactus: Prickly Pear cactus is good to eat in the spring when the sap retuns to the joints from the roots. The plants can be picked off the ground with the roots and all. Put them in a big cooking pot with plenty of water, with sweet corn cobs to add flavor. Let this cook for four hours so that it will be well done. Take them out of the pot and pick the thorns off good and clean. Serve it in the water which has been strained many times to remove the thorns. Serve with boiled cornmeal bread. A Modern Pueblo recipe for preparing Tomatilla Berries: Cook the berries in a pot with just enough water to cover them for one hour, then drain the water out. Grind the berries on a metate to a jam-like consistency. Add fine clay to do away with the sourness. Serve with fresh tiki bread. A Modern Pueblo Recipe for preparing Indian Millet. The seeds of Indian millet are gathered in June. They are ground on the metate with corn into a fine meal. Put the meal in a bowl and pour boiling water over it. Mix with a stick until it is cool enough to use the hands. Roll the dough in thin mounds . Bake on a hot flat stone. Serve as bread. A Modern Pueblo Recip for preparing Tamay mustard: Tamay mustard is gathered while it is nice and tender in the spring. It is baked in a small firepit about 10 inches deep and 12 inches square. The pit is lined with flat stones. When the fire has been built in it, pile many more flat stones around over the fire so they will get good and hot. While the pit is heating cflose the greens. Wash them very carefully. Beware your cooking bot is very hot. First put a layer of small hot stones in the bottom of the pit over the live coals. Then a layer of greens about 4 inches thick or more. Again another layer of small hot flat stones. Then a large flat stone for a lid over the whole pit. Cover the lid with mud or sand. Let the greens steam for about one half hour. Open the pit, remove the greens and let them cool. Squeeze all the water or juice out of them, and serve in salted water with corn dumplings or fresh piki bread. Modern Pueblo recipe for preparing Cholla Cactus Bark. The buds of the cholla cactus are picked and put into a yucca fiber basket with many small pieces of sandstone burning or baking the basket will remove the thorns from the bark, which are then ready to cook. Put them in a pot with sweet corn cobs for flavor and let them boil for two hours. Serve with cornmeal baked bread. A Modern Pueblo Recipe for preparing wild potatoes: Potatoes are gathered in teh fall. Cook them in boiling water for two hours. Drain the water off and let them cool. They are served and eaten with clay, which had been well sealed in water." ~ park display, Aztec Ruins National Monument, Aztec, New Mexico. Storms, hurricanes like this one, do come over frequently in certain areas. I want us to gain the energy from hurricanes. If we do so, we need hydrogen. Of course, other methods to store enormous amounts of energy are suitable as well.

Wind is there, somewhere, looking for it, is, in fact, part of hunting.

Without the fencing around waters we can hunt, just like mankind did in the first period. Hunting, for energy, food, wild animals. During the second period was mankind surrounded by borders. Now, the third period began. Mankind moves again for energy.

So, mankind knew two periods. The first period was before metal and agriculture and the second was with metal and agriculture.

Before the fencing around the ground, we were hunters. Mankind walked on in the first period. Nomads.

I want us, mankind so to speak, to hunt again for energy. So, in fact, the third period of mankind is very much like the first, in where mankind walked over the earth, looking for food, well, energy.

Until now, windturbines used a mast. A mast vibrates. And, above that vibrating, the tips of the blades are also loose ends, also resulting in vibrating. Vibrations of the blades and the masts were leading to a restricted operational wind window.

From now on, with the blades hold firmly in the around the blades mantling ring, the blades are to be considered as transversely moving blades. Transversely moving steady in position hold blades can go through air with 700km/hr.

The blades -rotors- are at their ends mantled by a ring. The ring is born within wheels in the housing. Because turbo wind mills use high winds, this mantle piece can be placed at/near the ground, so that there is no significant vibrating occurring at the ends of the blades.

In order to use high winds, the blades have to be hold firmly in place, leaving only the opportunity open for the blades to turn, or to move, perpendicular on the winds direction with as a consequence that Pythagoras law comes in as foundation to calculate the angle of attack in the blades. Further on, one will see that windsurfing is done in the half wind sailing course and waves are swept by the wind, so that wave riding is falling with sailing half wind. Perfect.

High speed, directed perpendicular on the wind, leads also to the fact that a given sail area will be used optimally. And because cavitation, air bubbles around the swords, are restricting the windsurfers' speed, spailboat has wheels for swords. You, as reader, have to take it from here, because I can not force you to swallow dry food. Please, take one step at the time. To get started, you firstly need to understand that when a plate is placed flat -perpendicular- on the wind, there is maximum blockage of the wind by that plate. Next step. We imaginary move this plate with for instance 300 m/s in the direction flat on the wind. Now we'll see that the actual wind speed, S, that hits the blade is to be calculated by Pathagoras' law, S^2 =W^2+V^2, in where, V, is the speed of the blade perpendicular on the winds' direction and W is the wind speed. If now the original wind speed is very low, say, 1 m/s, than we might as well assume that the actual wind speed that hits the blade is still 300 m/s. In other words, when an almost flat on the wind positioned blade is moving with very high speed, perpendicular on the original wind's direction, then the actual wind speed that hits the blades, comes almost from the front. A blade end of a windmill moves faster than that blade does near the center, so that blade ends are almost positioned flat on the wind. The same counts for windsurf sails, although the sails are hold almost flat on the wind, the actual wind flow that hits the sails is coming more or less from the front. This means that we want high speed, in order to get maximum conversion of a given sail area. High speed implies high lift forces, and therefore we need stable and strong configurations that hold the blades.

I worked on stable sailing machines for twenty years now, because the capsizing and the catapulting with my catamaran scared the ........ out off me. Oh, I sailed from six years old, and won in 1988 the second biggest cat race in the world, together with my nephew, Ruud Goudriaan, who still is a class-A cat sailor. I went to college, and later to the technical university in Delft, and therefore I sold my cat, but continued windsurfing on cheap gear. However, windsurfing on old wave boards with old gear is still going much faster than the fastest cat. I kept on wondering why and when I figured it out [in 1994], I started to create a mechanically operated windsurf boat.

Sailing and windsurfing are very much like music, a well written song can be played live on stage over and over again, and every time this song improves itself. I can only ensure you, that the windsurf formula is an outstanding song, in the way to speak. Everything comes together, with as result that the windy circumstances on earth are perfect to use sails, wings, for making axles spin, as well on the oceans, by means of windsurfing -a combination of surfing and sailing stable half wind-, as on land, by means of using turbo windmills.

The only limitations in using the high winds are now caused by preoccupation of the existing economy. For instance, the car industries, the airplane industries, wind turbine industries, sailing boats industries, et cetera, keep our engineers in hostage. If we only could stop the production and the developing of the car making, airplane making et cetera, for just one week, and bring this way all the engineers to one imaginary table then the formula of windsurfing is understood. Once the leading engineers understand the windsurf formula, then the building of the prototypes is a year away. Some floors of the car industries and the airplanes industries can make room for new production lines.

And to make an even bigger example. When the second world war broke out, suddenly all floors of the car industries and airplane industries were making room for the production of tanks, jeeps, fighter planes, bombers et cetera. So, it is just a matter of priorities.

By now, saving this planet is priority number one, and still all industries and all governments around the world do not see the windsurf formula. Even a child can see that windsurfing is sensational. Just look at windsurfing from above. The waves make pipelines, and the only safe course in high winds falls parrallel with them. These pipelines lay, notably per definition, perpendicular on the wind's direction and windsurfing is always done half wind, so that the windsurfers automatically go as fast as possible and have a relatively save ride between the waves. All in all, the windsurf formula implies that a given sail area is optimally used, that the waves are helping in making speed, that the half wind course is always leading to gliding along with the waves, that windsurfing is therefore relatively safe, that a stable configuration is the condition to make big structures, so that former dangerous windy circumstances at open ocean are just perfect to move a significant amount of mass with high speed. The kinetic energy is measured by the formula: 1/2 times the mass of the composition times the square of the speed. This world is dying for energy. So, please, understand the windsurf formula and please make Spailboats for over water, and turbo wind mills for on land.

I mean, did you ever see a professor, 60 years old, windsurfing on large waves with 10 bft at open sea? No, that is the problem. These kind of persons rule the world.

Just go on the Internet, and see for yourself that the formula, for calculating the maximum sailing speed, is still only counting for non flying sailing boats. This means that they assume that the hull is still always dragging through water. For the cavitation speed they still assume always that a sword is not moving with respect to the hull. In Spailboats, on the other hand, the water cutting part of a sword does move along with respect to the hull, so that the speed of the hull and the speed of through water dragging sword have two different values. Here in Holland at the university of Delft, a leading professor -who works on his own sailing boat, off course-, once told me in person that no matter what kind of sailing boat, or windsurfer, it could never over top the 100km/hr barrier, because of cavitation around the swords. I came to him, at one of those appointments, to inform him about the new rigging, so that spailboats are almost flying above the water and to inform him about the reason -to overcome cavitation around the water cutting profile of the sword wheels- for using circle shaped spinning swords. So, I walked through his door, showed him my work, and in stead letting me talk about my work, he did not look at my work at all. He talked for half an hour, and by the time he finished, I wanted to reply, but then he said, your time is up, leave, please. I have tried to make another appointment, but in vain. A few months later, he had a full page in one of Holland's main newspapers, the Saturday edition, in where he presented his own sailing boat. The public was misled. This sailing boat was so-called state of the art, but, it did not fly, it did still capsize, it could not operate in high seas, people, it was a worthless piece of ....... . So, I came in, and he asked, what did you study,? I said: civil engineering, and that answer was apparently wrong, because he worked at the aircraft and space department. Pyramids, remember, people, we still build them. The only thing that matters, is that I am a good sailor and windsurfer , and that I made windsurf robot. Even if I did not have any masters degree at the technical university at all, he should have asked me what my work was, and not what my title was. This story goes on, because before I talked to him, the boss so to speak, I had several meetings with his students and they were impressed. But at the moment they found out that I was working outside the university they boycotted me, right away. I had to give earlier given nice 3D pictures of wings back, and also my usb stick with several drawings had to be erased. Since then I am not welcome anymore. My own professor, Marcel Donze, then always brings calm to me, with this: Who would be the worst enemy of the Pope? Jesus Christ. No rank and bare footed, and closer to God as him.

It is therefore that these two new inventions fall under: the environmental revolution.

We, the hard working people, can easily see that windsurfers go faster than the good old sailing boats. And still, billions and billions are spend on sailing boats for the happy few, like the rich men's toys for the Volvo Ocean Race, America's cup, the immense yachts et cetera. The same thing counts for the swallowing up of our best engineers for the car industries, formula 1 racing, jet fighter plane making et cetera.

If only the engineers and the people who rule the world want to save this planet, then the prototypes of the turbo windmills and the spailboats will be operating within a year.

In the past seven years I really tried endlessly to talk with professors around the world. They are just not at home. On the phone it goes like this. Who are you? What did you study, and I say, civil engineering. Oh, that has nothing to do with planes and/or mills, we are not interested.

Off course, I do not talk like them, every error in the conversation means the final cut of the conversation and once such a door is closed, it never opens again.

So, you as reader will never read or hear about windsurf machines and turbo windmills, which can save the planet, other than in this slide show.

I was a good cat sailor and a good windsurfer in the eighties. From childhood on I was at sea. Above that fact, I was born in Zaandam, the place where a cluster of windmills is stacked in an open air museum. I had the kite surfing formula on the drawing board, long before it took off, because the kites are hold just the same as windsurf sails are hold, only now on wires and further away from the board. In fact, I actually kite surfed on a small wooden plank on the beach in the eighties of the past century when I was ten years old. My nephews tried it, but were to heavy, and logically, I had to try. And it worked. Kite surfing is nothing more than using a big kite to move yourself. So, who do you want to believe, me, or the universities?

Get úp, stand up, get up for your right. Bob Marley. He believed that music unites all people one day. Wind sounds like music, doesn't it? No more nuclear power, no more burning fossil fuels.

Turbo windmill, or Jet Wind Mill [JWM] / JWM is a nephew, resp. spin off, of Spailboat, the stable sailing Speed Sail Craft.

Stability: only when stability is firstly established, then a structure might be built tall. A sailing boat might be made endlessly strong, still, it capsizes, so that it is useless to make endlessly strong masts. A Spailboat however is stable, and therefore a Spailboat can be made big, very big, as big oceanliners, with 100 meter long masts. This is part of the windsurf formula. And remember, mass in motion implies the kinetic energy.

We need energy. For making fresh drinking water, for irrigation, for making electricity, making hydrogen, for moving cars, trains, planes and so on.

The windsurf formula is here, for everyone to use in the world, because I dropped my patents. It is free, for you, Africa, Asia, America, Europe, the south pacific continents and islands. Just have a look and run this show a few times. It is like the wheel itself, it is normal, revolutionary and it will change the world. No nuclear power is needed any longer, just usage of high winds and swell on the oceans. And the turbo windmill is spin off, because these blades are in fact circular moving steady in positioned hold windsurf sails.

Brenizer Method. Don't recall number of photo's stitched together.

This shot was done using the "Brenizer Method" in which you make a panorama out of many shots. This was made with about 20 shots. Next time I will use a lens with a larger aperture than f/4 to make the effect a little stronger. I like this shot for my first attempt at this method though!

It's explained here: blog.buiphotography.com/2009/07/the-brenizer-method-expla...

PTGUI doesn't cope well with assigning reference points to out of focus images. I had to align most of the component images of this panorama manually.

21 shots (3 high by 7 wide) taken at f/1.7, and as quickly as possible as the clouds were moving fast and trying to merge images where the clouds are in very different places can be really messy.

I completely grossed myself out last week when I ate a salad at Picante. My nose was completely stuffed up, so my method of salad-eating became: take a bite of food, chew twice, then gasp for air around the food, chew some more or swallow, gasp for air, and repeat. Luckily I was eating by myself and facing the corner. Miss Manners would not have been impressed.

I have back problems from hell, but, (knock on wood,) I almost never get sick. I go years between colds or flus. Last week my luck ran out: I got an epic cold and instead of heading to the local drugstore, I reached out to people for their best natural cold cures. Here's what I learned, and I think it worked great. I'm all better 6 days later and although I spent a lot more time than usual in bed, I also worked and hiked with dogs every day except one.

Recipes to Kick a Cold’s Ass

Sara and Mom said I should use the Neti Pot, and Roberta Abel, my realtor, has had sinus surgery and had this excellent Neti Pot Recipe: Use it 2x/day (BTW, a Neti Pot is the thing that you use for "nasal irrigation or nasal lavage:" you drip water into one nostril and it goes through your sinuses and out the other nostril. Totally disgusting but it's tremendously helpful in clearing your sinuses. It has been practiced in India for centuries as one of the disciplines of yoga.)

2 drops grapefruit extract

1 tbsp kosher or sea salt

Couple pinches baking soda

8 oz distilled water

More info on nasal irrigation here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nasal_irrigation

From Roberta, Sara, and my Mom: Steam: Use a steam room if you have access to one, or do the cheap-o kitchen version: put your head over a mug of hot water with Eucalyptus oil drops in it. Drape a towel over your head and the mug so it traps the steam around your head.

From Roy, my friend in Brooklyn: Native American Cold Remedy Drink--Drink 2-3x/day

Hot water with:

Lemon juice

Cayenne

Honey

Ginger

From the lady at the Food Mill: Avoid sugar and dairy and take Wellness Formula Herbal Defense Complex (3 pills in the AM and 2 at night). Mine is made by Source Naturals.

Everybody said: Sleep as much as possible. Saturday night I almost went to a groovy art opening, but I felt completely exhausted and instead went to bed at 6 PM and got out more than 18 hours later. (Sorry I didn't make it to your opening, Merav.)

I hope these recipes help someone somewhere. Here's wishing you and yours good health.

It's stitched from 69 photos, taken at 113mm, f2.8. DOF is not so shallow as I would like to see. Next time I must choose faster/longer lens. But it would be nice print I guess. With 59 megapixels, it can be around 1 meter width.

I just read about the Brenizer Method the other day and I decided to give it a go. It was a little tricky at first but I finally got some ok results in photoshop. Can't wait to play around with it more.

The Ulm School of Design was an international center for teaching, development, and research in the field of designing industrial products. Designers were trained in five areas—Industrial Design, Visual Communication, Building, Information, and Film. The program lasted four years, and students graduated with a diploma. Classes were divided into departmental work, which concentrated on the practice of design, and relevant theoretical subjects. Teaching materials and methodologies were developed at the Ulm School for a whole new profession, that of the designer. The ongoing further development of the teaching methods of Ulm has led to an entire model that is still relevant in the teaching of design today.

NEOBALLS / ZEN MAGNETS - Neodymium Magnetic Balls (@4205) - Starcraft II's Massive Thor

This is my most complex and largest build to date.

It was designed in parts: Cockpit body, then legs, then arms, then rear guns. Then I had to redesign parts when it came time to assemble it together because of incorrect bonding assumptions and misalignment of magnet fields.

Experimented with x-beam coupled bonds to get the maximum lateral strength with reinforcements on the sides. This proved to be very string. Created a X-Beam using similar methods producing a very strong leg structure. It was capable of support the entire weight of the cockpit body w/o a problem. Had to redesign the leg to cockpit body mount point from the earlier concept because the bond was not completely coupled.

Next up were the arm/guns ... the weight was too much for the cockpit body to support so I fashioned a pair of lego-platforms for them to rest on and take the weight off of the central body.

Finally ... the rear guns ... these were a challenge in that their original mount point design had to be reworked also to make them fit correctly into the rear of the cockpit body. I changed the mount points on the guns to fit the space on both sides and added a few support balls to improve the mount point bonds. I was very surprised how they were balanced and supported only by two point sections to the body. The guns stayed in place for a small series of photos.

The design flaw was in the side bonds of the beam to the legs. The coupled field held nicely for a short amount of time and would have held if it didn't have the weight of the rear guns to support. When they were standing upright and straight, all was good. As soon as I attempted to move the platform forward (to take a video), the rear guns tilted slightly backwards and and that was the end of the leg to body support bonds ... and created the dreaded implosion.

The rear gun weight caused the entire central body section to rotate backwards and fall back on the rear guns ... taking the arms in the process. Perhaps I should have created a Lego-support structure for the rear guns to remove the pendulum force backwards ... but that would have created another view blocker like the side Lego-platforms obstructed the view of the legs and feet. Not sure if I can recreate it for a rotational video ... this took over a week (on/off to design and assemble).

Overall ... I was very happy with the result ... hope I captured enough detail to warrant some visual recognition as a Starcraft II Thor reproduction/interpretation.

Bend, Ore. -- A group of 45 federal snow surveyors gathered in Bend Jan. 10 - 15, 2016 to train on measuring mountain snowpack and cold-weather survival. USDA's Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) hosts the Westwide Snow Survey training every year to support snow surveyors across 13 Western states.

“Often times our snow survey crews must traverse difficult mountain terrains to manually measure the snowpack in remote areas,” said Tony Tolsdorf, one of the organizers for this year’s training. “The Westwide Snow Survey training is absolutely essential to sustain our snow survey program. We ensure our people are prepared in the event of an emergency and keep them up-to-speed on the methods for measuring.”

Training topics included outdoor survival, mountain medicine, avalanche preparedness, a history of snow survey, shelter construction, methods of measurement, and more. Guest instructors included Brian Horner of Learn to Return Training based in Anchorage, Alaska and Nancy Pfeiffer of the Alaska Avalanche School also based in Anchorage.

Since its inception in 1935, USDA’s Snow Survey and Water Supply Forecasting Program has grown into a network of 1,185 manually-measured snow courses and 858 automated snow telemetry stations across 13 Western states, including Alaska. The program provides streamflow forecasts at 673 stream gages in the West. Data from the automated snow sites are available near real-time through an extensive web delivery system.

Sorry for short delay had to try out both methods on 2 seperate sheets before resuming collapse on the main model. Whats noticed is method 2 has a back side where points don't meet & that results in a 5 pointed star. Its front didn't come out as neat, unsure if its because of the paper or the method itself. While it maybe cool it could be confusing at the same time (because of alignment), so I will stick to the original method 1. Anyway I got to test some new paper at the same time so its all good.
