Air Methods Eurocopter EC135 N138HN cn 288 MRB

I built a bunch of medieval execution and torture devices back in November for a school project and am showcasing a few of them here. I guess you could say this build is a part one of two, with part two coming in two years or so. Yup, this is my last build for the next two years. I'll say more in my 2021 recap that I'll post soon.

This build was quite fun and the execution methods especially were exciting to design. I'm particularly proud of my stock design and the chopping block.

This is also my entry to the Rogues & Outlaws category of Brickscalibur.

Let me know what you think and have a nice day!

Music & the devices we have invented to listen to it are amazing discoveries/inventions that humankind has created. I know music makes me smile. :)

In 1877 the first phonograph was invented by Thomas Edison. The phonograph was the first method of recording and playing back sound. This was Edison's first great invention. Thanks Thomas Edison you helped millions of people smile and not just on Saturdays.

We are a family-run lavender farm in Milton, Ontario, part of the Niagara escarpment. Toronto's nearest full lavender experience! Established in 2017, our farm is home to over 25,000 lavender plants that bloom on our rolling hills from the end of June to the middle of August, and sunflowers that bloom from the last week of July.

Our farm was born with the desire to provide a natural experience of bringing more beauty, love, and well-being into the world. We use all-natural farming methods to bring you the best products that nature has to offer, without the use of any herbicides or pesticides.

Stilt fishing is a method of fishing unique to the island country of Sri Lanka, known as “the Pearl of the Indian Ocean”. The fishermen sit on a cross bar called a ‘petta’ tied to a vertical pole and driven into the sand a few meters offshore. From this high position, the fishermen casts his line, and waits until a fish comes along to be caught. Although the approach looks primitive and ancient, stilt fishing is actually a recent tradition.

- The photo is stitched using Microsoft ICE

- The total number of photos used...60 for the ground level, unknown number for the sky since I didn't count the shots I was taking on my Camera App. I'm guessing at least 100.

- The software or other method used for stitching: Microsoft ICE and Camera App for Android. The two hemispheric stitches were then manually stitched together using GIMP then given VR compatibility by transferrring the data from another photo using Exiftool.

I don't get to try Brenizer shots very often, as you need a static subject and a reasonably motionless background, so I couldn't resist the chance when I saw this bike on Blackfriars Rd.

The Messier star cluster M35 at top right, along with nearby faint nebulas: IC 443, the arc of nebulosity left of centre, and NGC 2174 at bottom right, all set in a very colourful starfield.

IC 443 in Gemini is also known as the Jellyfish Nebula, while NGC 2174 in Orion is aka the Monkeyhead Nebula. IC 443 is a supernova remnant, while NGC 2174 is a star forming region.

The images for this stack were taken on a less-than-ideal night with high haze adding the natural glows to the stars, accentuating their colours. The two stars at left, Tejat Posterior (aka Mu Geminorum, left) and Propus (aka Eta Geminorum, centre), are both bright red giant stars. Other stars in the field are hot blue stars.

This is a stack and blend of: 10 x 4-minute exposures through an Astronomik CLS clip-in filter blended with 8 x 8-minute exposures taken though a 12nm H-Alpha clip-in filter to add in the red nebulosity. All were through the SharpStar 61mm EDPHII apo refractor at f/4.5 and with the Canon EOS Ra camera at ISO 1600 for the CLS filtered images and at ISO 3200 for the H-Alpha filtered shots.

Taken from home for a demo image, on a hazy night, March 29, 2022, with the MGEN III autoguider performing inter-frame dithering. It serves as a demo of blending in H-Alpha and also making use of a hazy night!

Processing details: The H-Alpha shots were converted to monochrome and processed in Adobe Camera Raw, and blended into the colour image stack with a Lighten blend mode and with colorization added using the Debra Ceravolo method of applying a Hue&Saturation layer set to Colorize at 340 Red and a Lightness of ~50. Masking was applied so the H-alpha image shows through only where the nebulosity is, to prevent the overall sky colour turning red.

No darks or flats were applied. All aligned, stacked and blended in Photoshop. Framing planned with SkySafari to include the stars at left and right of the frame.

I use an Einstein 640 strobe with a 22" beauty dish & diffusion sock mounted on an Elinchrom Handheld Boom Arm. I typically fire my camera off with a wireless trigger, and that in turn fires my CyberSync™ Trigger Transmitter on my Nikon D800 to fire off my strobe via a CyberSync™ Transceiver. I end up taking several exposures, both high and low, while walking around the vehicle. I'll layer the images in Photoshop and switch each layer to the 'lighten' blend mode. I have been using layer masks to remove some highlight details from the strobe reflection, but I don't always find it works all the time. 1970 Plymouth Duster, 2016 Mountain Thunder Car Show in Old Fort, North Carolina.

Authentic pure iberian ham with designation of origin.

The ¨montanera¨¨ is the last phase of the Iberian pig´s rearing and consists of letting the pig¨s graze in the pastures where the tradicional fattening process takes place among holm oak and cork oak forests. The acorn is the fundamental foodstuff before slaughter. Only the tallest specimens that have complited the previous stages are used for this fattening method.

The ¨montanera¨ season runs from October to February, coinciding with the acorn ripening period. The animals enter this stage with around 90 kilos and can end up with around 160 kilos in years of good acorn harvests. During the montanera, the pigs live freely in these spaces and remain in movement, which is the basis of the quality of their meat. In fact, each animal requires approximately one hectare of pastureland. The carbohydrate contant of acorns provides the animal with energy that will be transformed into fat infiltrated in its muscles and which give its peculiar scent. After curing with salt and drying for three to four years, it is ready to be anjoyed.

The Black-necked Stilt is found throughout the tropics and subtropics of North, Central and South America. Though it will only breed at freshwater sites, it occurs in a wide variety of shallow wetlands including marshes, swamps, lake edges, river courses, sewage ponds, salt-pans and coastal salt marshes where it feeds on aquatic invertebrates with a variety of visual and tactile methods. The Black-necked Stilt is highly distinctive, being white below, black above with very long, thin bright red legs. Two subspecies occur in the Americas, differing only in the presence of a white-cap and collar in the southern subspecies. The two subspecies grade into one another fairly rapidly and in general the northern subspecies occurs from the central Peruvian Coast north, including the Andes, to North America and across northern South America and the southern subspecies occurs throughout the Amazon south to edge of the southern Temperate zone and along the southern Pacific coast but their breeding and non-breeding distributions are poorly known and require further study.

In an effort to try new things and challenge myself, I tried out Image Stacking method to try and reduce the amount of people in a day shot. On this trip I didn't bring a tripod so I couldn't use an ND Filter. I ended up taking 5 photos over the course of 2 or 3 minutes and used the Median method in Photoshop. This yielded a somewhat decent result although there was ghosting like you'd see in a night or long expsoure shot so I wasn't too thrilled with the outcome.

I ended up just putting all 5 photos in one document as layers and masking out the parts where there were people near the lens. The farther away people were really hard as those were never clean areas so that is something I need to look out for in the future. But in the end I like the outcome as it provides a way of seeing Spaceship Earth without being too cluttered up front.

Thanks for looking!

I'm on holiday at the moment working on my gorgeous all over body tan.

Here's a one from yesteryear... 11 years ago...WTF 😳😱

The method to dress and present as my favourite woman has never changed. 💜💜

A woman's work is never done.

I love this photo.....

To get this result the following is required.

As us unusual girls in this world know, there is nothing more rewarding than the transformation. The journey we make from M to F is in my book one of the most exhilarating moments in life.

My run down starts like this.

Shower,

Shave (as required)

Dry and moisturise the body.

Apply make up. Except lips and lashes.

Paint nails.

Choose cloths.

Tape here and there if you want to........

Tuck away (we have to do it!)

Put on under wear,

Next it's Tights or stockings.

1 off Corset, (nice and tight)

Stop and take several deep breaths due to above!

Admire new fem shape.

More deep breaths and reflect on the transition!

Develop your breast shape.

Drink wine as required.

Dress in chosen outfit(s)

Pick a suitable hair style.

Earrings, bracelets, jewellery.

Slowly put on each high heel shoe.

Stand and admire the female shape and stance!!! (oh yes)

Finish lips, lashes and any minor defects.

Drink more wine.

Take a few pictures.

And the rest is up to you.

Genus Apantesis, a genus of tiger moths in the family Erebidae.

Size: Wingspan 3-4 cm

Identification: Medium-sized tiger moths with very dark forewings. Identification of species is difficult, and the taxonomy may still be rather confused.

Range: Eastern and Central North America

Habitat: Varied, near fields, lawns.

Season: Summer into early fall

Food: Flower nectar; also reported to feed on honey and water in captivity.

Life Cycle

Larvae feed on herbs, such as dandelion. Life history refers to three eastern species described by Covell (3)

Remarks

There is no 100% consistent diagnostic characteristic in wing maculation or spots/no spots on the patagia (the "collar"), to reliably distinguish nais/carlotta/phalerata/vittata. The only full-proof method is dissection and examination of genitalia (the exception is in male phalerata, in which the valve is easily distinguished by its longer, up-curved apex. So one could brush the scales away from the last sternite and see it without dissection. The nais/carlotta/vittata group have rather blunt and rounded apices of the valve.)

However, within this group, using the sum of typical (although not necessarily diagnostic) characteristics, can allow for a reasonably probable species ID. bugguide.net/node/view/5750

Thatching methods have traditionally been passed down from generation to generation, and numerous descriptions of the materials and methods used in Europe over the past three centuries survive in archives and early publications.

In some equatorial countries, thatch is the prevalent local material for roofs, and often walls. There are diverse building techniques from the ancient Hawaiian hale shelter made from the local ti leaves (Cordyline fruticosa), lauhala (Pandanus tectorius) or pili grass (Heteropogon contortus).

The multi-tiered Meru towers of Besakih temple, Bali, uses black ijuk fibres.

Palm leaves are also often used. For example, in Na Bure, Fiji, thatchers combine fan palm leaf roofs with layered reed walls. Feathered palm leaf roofs are used in Dominica. Alang-alang (Imperata cylindrica) thatched roofs are used in Hawaii and Bali. In Southeast Asia, mangrove nipa palm leaves are used as thatched roof material known as attap dwelling. In Bali, Indonesia, the black fibres of Arenga pinnata called ijuk is also used as thatched roof materials, usually used in Balinese temple roof and meru towers. Sugar cane leaf roofs are used in Kikuyu tribal homes in Kenya.

Wild vegetation such as water reed (Phragmites australis), bulrush/cat tail (Typha spp.), broom (Cytisus scoparius), heather (Calluna vulgaris), and rushes (Juncus spp. and Schoenoplectus lacustris) was probably used to cover shelters and primitive dwellings in Europe in the late Palaeolithic period, but so far no direct archaeological evidence for this has been recovered. People probably began to use straw in the Neolithic period when they first grew cereals—but once again, no direct archaeological evidence of straw for thatching in Europe prior to the early medieval period survives.

Many indigenous people of the Americas, such as the former Maya civilization, Mesoamerica, the Inca empire, and the Triple Alliance (Aztec), lived in thatched buildings. It is common to spot thatched buildings in rural areas of the Yucatán Peninsula as well as many settlements in other parts of Latin America, which closely resemble the method of construction from distant ancestors. The first Americans encountered by Europeans lived in structures roofed with bark or skin set in panels that could be added or removed for ventilation, heating, and cooling. Evidence of the many complex buildings with fiber-based roofing material was not rediscovered until the early 2000s. French and British settlers built temporary thatched dwellings with local vegetation as soon as they arrived in New France and New England, but covered more permanent houses with wooden shingles.

In most of England, thatch remained the only roofing material available to the bulk of the population in the countryside, in many towns and villages, until the late 1800s. Commercial distribution of Welsh slate began in 1820, and the mobility provided by canals and then railways made other materials readily available. Still, the number of thatched properties actually increased in the UK during the mid-1800s as agriculture expanded, but then declined again at the end of the 19th century because of agricultural recession and rural depopulation. A 2013 report estimated that there were 60,000 properties in the UK with a thatched roof; they are usually made of long straw, combed wheat reed or water reed.

Gradually, thatch became a mark of poverty, and the number of thatched properties gradually declined, as did the number of professional thatchers. Thatch has become much more popular in the UK over the past 30 years, and is now a symbol of wealth rather than poverty. There are approximately 1,000 full-time thatchers at work in the UK, and thatching is becoming popular again because of the renewed interest in preserving historic buildings and using more sustainable building materials.

The Dixie Walesbilt Hotel, known as the Grand Hotel in later years, is one of a small number of skyscrapers built in the 1920s that still stand today and is a prime example of how optimistic people were during the Florida land boom. Built in 1926, it found financing through a stock-sale campaign in the local business community, costing $500,000 after it was completed(which equates to about $6 million today.)

The building architecture, masonry vernacular with hints of Mediterranean-Revival, is also a good example of the time is was built. It was designed by two well-known architects at the time, Fred Bishop who designed the Byrd Theatre in Virginia, and D.J. Phipps, whose designed both the Wyoming County Courthouse and Jail and the Colonial Hotel in Virginia.

The hotel was constructed using the “three-part vertical block” method, which became the dominant pattern in tall buildings during the 1920s. Three-part buildings are composed of a base, shaft and a cap, all noticeably visible.

The hotel opened as the “Walesbilt” in January 1927, shortly after the land boom had started to collapse and two years before the Great Depression began. It’s also best to note that the hotel opened around the same time the Floridan Hotel in Tampa opened, another hotel built during the Florida land boom.

In 1972, the hotel was purchased by Anderson Sun State and renamed the “Groveland Motor Inn”. The firm completely renovated the hotel and used it to host visitors to the area who were interested in Green Swamp, land sectioned off for land development. At the time there was heavy speculation in the land because of it’s close proximity to Walt Disney World and were selling for around $5,000 an acre at the time. That ended after a state cabinet designation of the swamp as an area of critical state concern, placing the land off-limits to any large land developments. The firm filed for foreclosure and the hotel was auctioned off in 1974. Despite RCI Electric purchasing the hotel, it remained empty for many years afterwards.

n 1978, the hotel was signed over to the Agape Players, a nationally known religious music and drama group, who would assume the mortgage and would pay the costs to make improvements to meet city fire and safety standards. The hotel was renamed the “Royal Walesbilt” and after extensive improvements were made, it became the headquarters for the Agape Players; using it as a teaching facility and the base from which the group launched their tours. In addition, they operated a restaurant, an ice cream parlor on the lobby floor and a “Christian hotel” on the upper floors, catering mostly to groups. The Agape Players disbanded in 1985 and put the property up for sale

Victor Khubani, a property investor from New York acquired the property and renamed the hotel “Grand”. The hotel closed briefly in December 1988, due to a variety of code violations and causing the owner to later pay $14,000 in fines. On August 31, 1990 it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places, possibly for tax exemption reasons. In October 1991, The State Fire Marshall’s Office gave the owner one year to install a new sprinkler system and in May 1993, the code enforcement board gave Khubani until March to complete the work.

In March 1994, the hotel closed due to multiple code violations and was to remain closed until a new fire sprinkler system was installed. To reopen, the fire escapes and elevator, which did not function, would have to be repaired as well. In 1995, the hotel was auctioned off to a redevelopment firm, which dismantled part of the interior for reconstruction, which was never completed.

Since then, the hotel has deteriorated, becoming an eyesore to many of the residents of Lake Wales and nicknamed “The Green Monster” for the greenish color it has acquired from over the years. In 1995, it was even jokingly mentioned to become a sacrifice to “the bomb”, an economic boom that occurred in parts of Florida where movie production companies would pay cities to blow up buildings for their movies. In 2007, the city foreclosed on the structure for more than $700,000 in unpaid code fines, with hopes in finding someone to restore it.

Development firm, Dixie-Walesbilt LLC announced plans to restore the hotel, signing into an agreement with the city of Lake Wales in February 2010. By the agreement, the city would retain ownership of the building until a defined amount of work had been accomplished. The work must be completed within 16 months and the amount of money invested must succeed at least $1.5 million. The building would then be handed off the Dixie Walesbilt LLC, where they may continue with private funding or other methods to for debt funding.

Ray Brown, President of Dixie Walesbilt LLC, planned to invest $6 million into the renovation, with original plans to put retail stores on the ground floor and using the upper floors for as many as 40 condominiums.

On June 2, 2011, the city of Lake Wales agreed to deed the building off to Ray Brown in a 4-1 vote, after meeting the requirements of the redevelopment agreement. Though Brown submitted a list of costs to the city totaling $1.66 million, Mayor Mike Carter wasn’t satisfied with the results so far, pointing out that Brown failed to repair the windows and repaint the building. Previous owners had put tar on the building and then painted over it, so much of Brown’s investment went to stripping the tar off the exterior walls.

To repaint the building, Brown would also have to resurface the hotel with hydrated lime to replicate the original skin as well as the window frames would need to be constructed of Douglas fir, red cedar and gulf cypress. According to Brown, previous owners who renovated the building rarely removed the building original elements. They carpeted over intricate tile flooring, stuck tar paper above skylights and placed modern drinking fountains in front of the originals. He estimated about 98 percent of the building is still in it’s original form.

Restoration of the building’s exterior began in January 2015 and included surface repair, pressure washing, paint removal, chemical treatment, and a comprehensive resurfacing of the exterior.

While the original plans were for turning the building into condominiums, that has since changed and current plans call for operating the building as a boutique hotel. The hotel will feature geothermal cooling as opposed to traditional air conditioning, a permanent art gallery as well as theme gallery showings throughout the year, and the best WiFi/internet in the city. The project is expected to be completed in 18 to 24 months.

Schwarzfüssiger Walzenhalsbock

I shot this species in the same location in 2015 but without stacking. Good to see that they are still around!

Princess Merida from Pixar's Brave will always have a place in my heart if only because of our shared wild curls. But there's something about her determination that also resonates. Her famous line from all the trailers--"If you had the chance to change your fate, would you?"--with that thick Scottish accent kept running through my head this past week, something about that passion to take on a challenge and control of your life, and suddenly I was having visions of a dark forest and glowing box full of magic light and couldn't get it out of my head.

The good part is, I knew exactly how I'd pull it off. (Old wooden box lined with tinfoil. Orange-gelled speedlite triggered remotely, pointed at the tinfoil to bounce the light up. Wait until dusk to tone down the ambient light. Find shadowy section of local woods. Brenizer/expansion method to make the scene feel wider but focused. Emphasized blues in post.) But oh man it sounded like so much work and I've gotten lazy. Stop throwing on dresses and plopping yourself down on a path for a while and it starts to sound way too complicated to take up again.

But, as you can see, I did it, even though my creativity-inertia was complaining the whole time. Once I actually got out there and peered around a few corners to find the perfect path section (and lucked out with not a single onlooker to ruin the ethereal alone-in-the-forest vibe!), I had the best time. The shot worked out almost exactly as the vision in my head. And I really need to do this more often. When I get the chance to change my fate, I take it.

From now on, I will host "Lot No.402_".

The work of Leonardo da Vinci who was sleeping.

That is the number when it was put up for auction.

No sign was written on the work.

So this work couldn't conclude that it was his work.

However, as a result of various appraisals, it was exposed to the sun.

A work that no one notices. A work that speaks quietly without a title.

I will continue to strive to provide it to many people in various ways.

About my book.

I published a book a long time ago.

At that time, I uploaded my interview as a PDF on the internet.

Its Japanese and English.

I will publish it for free.

For details, I explained to the Amazon site.

How to write a novel.

How to take a picture.

A sense of distance to the work.

All of these have something in common.

I wrote down what I felt and left it.

I hope my text will be read by many people.

Thank you.

Main story

There are two reasons why a person faces the sea.

One, to enjoy a slice of shine in the sea like children bubbling over in the beach.

The other, to brush the dust of memory like an old man who misses old days, staring at the shine

quietly.

Those lead to only one meaning though they do not seem to overlap. It’s a rebirth.

I face myself to change tomorrow, a vague day into something certain.

That is the meaning of a rebirth.

I had a very sweet girlfriend when I was 18.

After she left, I knew the meaning of gentleness for the first time and also a true pain of loss. After

she left, how many times did I depend too much on her, doubt her, envy her and keep on telling lies

until I realized it is love?

I wonder whether a nobody like me could have given something to her who was struggling in the

daily life in those days. Giving something is arrogant conceit. It is nothing but self-satisfaction.

I had been thinking about such a thing.

However, I guess what she saw in me was because I had nothing. That‘s why she tried to see

something in me. Perhaps she found a slight possibility in me, a guy filled with ambiguous, unstable

tomorrow. But I wasted days depending too much on her gentleness.

Now I finally can convey how I felt in those days when we met.
