I watched on the beach as Mom and Dad piled the kids into a canoe to enjoy a sunset paddle before bedtime, and for a few minutes, the sky absolutely lit up in a brilliant display of color before fading into darkness. Camping experiences make great memories and I'm sure they all slept well that night.
The image is softer than I would like. I was pushing the limits of an old camera but it was the one at hand and the scene too nice to pass up.
CHILDHOOD MEMORY is the topic for Wed Jan 11 2016 Group Our Daily Challenge
as a little boy, with those quantity of glass marbles, I would have been very rich and all the little girls would have been very impressed :-)))
This spot holds many precious memories. We lived near this nature preserve years ago while our son was young and spent so many happy hours delighting in every new discovery. Revisiting years later, I lingered in this place for quite a while, reminiscing and missing those times.
Now we have a precious granddaughter, but over one thousand miles and travel restrictions separate us, and as wonderful as FaceTime visits are, I SO want to spend time with her chasing butterflies, catching and releasing crayfish and tadpoles, listening to the birds, sharing laughs and hugs, and treasuring our time together!
Macro Mondays theme Tag
This was Cookie's collar and dog tag. It now has pride of place in our living room next to his ashes.
Width of frame is around 4 cm.
Happy Macro Monday!
....of my Mum who passed away earlier this year. Miss you Mum 💔
Hope everyone is doing OK. This is the reason I haven't been about much over the last year or so. I've done very little photography lately but hoping to get back into it over the next few months.
As I think back over the enjoyable experiences of last year, near the top would have to be our workshops in Mammoth Lakes and Moab. I truly enjoyed meeting so many nice people and photographing nature's wonder together! This is Convict Lake in the Eastern Sierra.

Time to head home and take refuge in the safe place of my book shelf - the two surviving wooden elephants from Sri Lanka. The rest is memory.

This is Lake Mässersee (2130 m/7000 ft) in the Swiss Alps. I had been here before about 32 years ago, together with my parents. My dad had his old Kodak camera with him and I took my very first photo here, showing my parents in front of the lake. Hence the title.
Unfortunately the weather today was far worse than back then. We climbed higher up today, up to Passo della Rossa that marks the border to Italy. The trail is called „Geisspfad“ in German, meaning „goat trail“ but actually refers to the chamois whose tracks we saw on the path. Apart from chamois the trail used to be taken primarily by smugglers. I guess not after middle of October though, as we had snow, sleet, hail and terrifying fog up there on 2474 m/8117 ft and we didn’t see any people all day. It’s not an easy trail especially with wind and snow on the rocks and pebbles and I was quite happy when we were out of the winter zone again :-)
It has been a while since I posted a flower shot so one from the archives today :) HBW!
Many thanks for all the kind comments and faves - they're very much appreciated.

An informal portrait for my mum's 80th Birthday and showing her sense of humour in her expression. We had, of course, been laughing and joking before this shot which was taken just before we went out for a huge family meal for my mum's children, grand children and great grandchildren.
One year ago today my mum died in hospital after collapsing at home from a sudden and unexpected illness. I was unable to get there and be by her side being 300 miles away and unwell myself. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic I had not seen my mum in person for over 2 years when she passed but I had spoken to her once or twice a week for that whole time. Although she knew that she was loved and missed at that time it was painful not being able to give my mum a hug or to sit with her and natter over a cup of tea. I even missed her funeral due to Covid and illness.
Not a day goes by that I don't miss my dear mum. She is in my heart and mind every single day. She only visited me in Scotland once as my mum didn't travel well, but we had a lovely time up here and spent a day on the Isle of Arran. Back on the mainland we stopped, near to my new home, for a fish and chip supper by the beach. One of the best fish and chip shops I have found in Scotland that my parents remembered fondly and often remarked upon. The last thing my mum did for me was to send money for a special treat of those fish and chips as a home moving gift. Tonight I will be honouring that memory with some fish and chips from that very same chippy, right on the harbour front where the fish practically jump out of the boat and are cooked to order. Fresh as can be. I will watch the sun set for her.
I love you mum and I miss you enormously every single day.
Rest peacefully.
