This magnificent flambé had the courtesy to come and forage on our lavenders last week, in fact they were 2 but the other one had lost one of its tails, this one is intact for the moment, I hope they will come again.
With a maximum wingspan of 8 cm, the flambé is a cream-colored butterfly with large black stripes. Its tails are black and the tips of its hind wings have blue lunules and red spots. It lives in plains and orchards up to 2000 m between May and August.
Thanks a lot dear friends for your visits, kind comments, awards, invites, and faves.
Wish you all a nice week❤️
Lusowskie Lake is located in the Greater Poland Voivodeship, west of the city of Poznań. It is situated latitudinally between the village of Lusówko and the village of Lusowo (hence the name of the lake) at a length of about 4 km.
The lake area ranges from 117 ha to 122 ha, and its average depth is 8.6 m, and the maximum depth is 19.5 m. The shoreline is poorly developed, the shores are almost forestless. The Sama River, the left tributary of the Warta River, which flows into it in Obrzycko, has its source in the lake.

The Cliffs of Moher (Irish: Aillte an Mhothair) are located at the southwestern edge of the Burren region in County Clare, Ireland.
They rise 120 metres (390 ft) above the Atlantic Ocean at Hag's Head, and, eight kilometres to the north, reach their maximum height of 214 metres (702 ft) just north of O'Brien's Tower, which is a round stone tower near the midpoint of the cliffs that was built in 1835 by Sir Cornelius O'Brien. From the cliffs, and from atop the tower, visitors can see the Aran Islands in Galway Bay, the Maumturks and Twelve Pins mountain ranges to the north in County Galway, and Loop Head to the south. The cliffs rank amongst the most visited tourist sites in Ireland and receive approximately one million visitors a year - Wikipedia

Red/Common Crossbill - Loxia Curvirostra (m)
The crossbill is a genus, Loxia, of birds in the finch family (Fringillidae), with six species. These birds are characterised by the mandibles with crossed tips, which gives the group its English name. Adult males tend to be red or orange in colour, and females green or yellow, but there is much variation.
Crossbills are specialist feeders on conifer cones, and the unusual bill shape is an adaptation which enables them to extract seeds from cones. These birds are typically found in higher northern hemisphere latitudes, where their food sources grow. They erupt out of the breeding range when the cone crop fails. Crossbills breed very early in the year, often in winter months, to take advantage of maximum cone supplies.
The different species specialise in feeding on different conifer species, with the bill shape optimised for opening that species of conifer. This is achieved by inserting the bill between the conifer cone scales and twisting the lower mandible towards the side to which it crosses, enabling the bird to extract the seed at the bottom of the scale with its tongue.
The mechanism by which the bill-crossing (which usually, but not always, occurs in a 1:1 frequency of left-crossing or right-crossing morphs) is developed, and what determines the direction, has hitherto withstood all attempts to resolve it.
It is very probable that there is a genetic basis underlying the phenomenon (young birds whose bills are still straight will give a cone-opening behavior if their bills are gently pressed, and the crossing develops before the birds are fledged and feeding independently), but at least in the red crossbill (the only species which has been somewhat thoroughly researched regarding this question) there is no straightforward mechanism of heritability.

Bumblebees are known
as easy, efficient and reliable pollinators.
These are the advantages of bumblebees:
Bumblebees provide maximum insurance for optimal pollination, due to their high number of flower visits and large pollen transfer.
Bumblebee pollination results in higher yields, better shaped fruit, quality products and faster ripening of the fruit.
Bumblebees are reliable workers, they work 7 days a week from sunset to sunrise
Bumblebees work well under bad weather conditions and in protected environments

Buff-banded Rail
Scientific Name: Gallirallus philippensis
Description: The Buff-banded Rail is a medium-sized stout rail with short legs. It has a distinctive grey eyebrow and an orange-brown band on its streaked breast. The lores, cheek and hindneck are rich chestnut. The chin and throat are grey, the upperparts streaked brown and the underparts barred black and white. The eye is red. Young birds are much paler to white underneath, with indistinct bars and only a faint orange-brown tint on the breast. Downy chicks are fluffy black. This rail walks slowly, with tail raised and flicking constantly.
Similar species: The orange-brown breast band distinguishes the Buff-banded Rail from the similar but smaller Lewin's Rail,Dryolimnas pectoralis, which has a rich chestnut crown and nape and a proportionally longer pink bill.
Distribution: The Buff-banded Rail is widespread in mainland Australia, particularly along the eastern coast and islands, and on Norfolk and Lord Howe Islands. It is also found in south-east Asia, New Guinea and New Zealand.
Habitat: The Buff-banded Rail is seen singly or in pairs in dense reeds and vegetation bordering many types of wetlands or crops. It makes widespread use of artificial wetlands like sewage ponds and drainage channels.
Seasonal movements: The Buff-banded Rail is resident and possibly locally nomadic, though little is known of these movements.
Feeding: The Buff-banded Rail feeds on crustaceans, molluscs, insects, seeds, fruit, frogs, carrion and refuse. It mostly feeds early in the morning and the evening.
Breeding: Breeding is poorly known, but the Buff-breasted Rail nests in long grass, tussocks, rushes or crops. It makes an unlined cup-shaped nest of grasses or reeds. Both parents incubate and the young will leave the nest within 24 hours. Both parents remain with the young, which usually feed themselves, though the female may feed them as well. Two broods may be raised in some seasons.
Calls: Loud creaky squeak when breeding but usually silent.
Minimum Size: 28cm
Maximum Size: 33cm
Average size: 31cm
Average weight: 130g
Breeding season: September to February
Clutch Size: 5 to 8 eggs
Incubation: 19 days
Nestling Period: 1 days

Who would have thought that within days of taking this photo our country would be in lockdown.
Today I would have been back home in Scotland, but instead the chances of doing so, seem distant indeed.
For now I must make do with the memories and look forward to a time when this nightmare will be over.
Stay positive everyone and more importantly stay safe and well.
