Jean-François Ortmans was an industrialist specializing in dyeing and was Mayor of Verviers from 1855 to 1885. His name is also linked to the construction of the Gileppe Dam and the creation of the distribution of industrial and household water. , dating from 1893, is the work of Clément Vivroux. He used various materials such as freestone, bronze and limestone. It is 15 meters high and 13 meters wide. On the pediment, the town of Verviers, represented by a lady, stands next to a lion (symbol of strength). The lady is holding a piece of cloth in her right hand (evoking the city's textile industry). We can see two commemorative slabs: • on the left “1878, Ortmans Hauzeur distributes water from the Gileppe” • on the right “To Bourgmestre Ortmans Hauzeur 1854-1885, his grateful fellow citizens”. The freestone base is interrupted by sculpted bands imitating water curtains. One of the headbands imitates waves. There are elements reminiscent of water: • sculpted seashells • a very large seashell behind the bust of Jean-François Ortmans • an amphora on each side. The bottom of the monument evokes the distribution of water and the role that played Jean-François Ortmans in the development of local industry. Five basins receive the water discharged through a pipe located under the pedestal. This monument was erected on the gable end of a dwelling house which has certain decorative elements identical to the fountain.

Oh hai der guys! It has been 3 weeks ago since my last upload, but I finally made something.

As you can see above, it is an Tyrannosaurus-Rex. I never really told anyone but I am and always was fasinated with dinosaurs. I have tons of movies, books and toys. But I never really made a good dinosaur in lego before until now. And I don't think I'm finished, I'll try to make some more in the future,

Though I can't take 100% credit, since aurore&aube was a huge inspiration.

Also, please tell me if you are a dinosaur fan yourself!!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tyrannosaurus meaning "tyrant lizard", from Greek tyrannos meaning "tyrant," and sauros meaning "lizard") is a genus of coelurosaurian theropod dinosaur. The species Tyrannosaurus rex (rex meaning "king" in Latin), commonly abbreviated to T. rex, is a fixture in popular culture. It lived throughout what is now western North America, at the time an island continent termed Laramidia, wit

a much wider range than other tyrannosaurids. Fossils are found in a variety of rock formations dating to the Maastrichtian age of the upper Cretaceous Period, 67 to 65.5 million years ago. It was among the last non-avian dinosaurs to exist before the Cretaceous–Paleogene extinction event.

Like other tyrannosaurids, Tyrannosaurus was a bipedal carnivore with a massive skull balanced by a long, heavy tail. Relative to the large and powerful hindlimbs, Tyrannosaurus forelimbs were small, though unusually powerful for their size, and bore two clawed digits. Although other theropods rivaled or exceeded Tyrannosaurus rex in size, it was the largest known tyrannosaurid and one of the largest known land predators, measuring up to 12.8 m (42 ft) in length, up to 4 metres (13 ft) tall at the hips, and up to 6.8 metric tons (7.5 short tons) in weight. By far the largest carnivore in its environment, Tyrannosaurus rex may have been an apex predator, preying upon hadrosaurs and ceratopsians, although some experts have suggested it was primarily a scavenger. The debate over Tyrannosaurus as apex predator or scavenger is among the longest running in paleontology.

More than 30 specimens of Tyrannosaurus rex have been identified, some of which are nearly complete skeletons. Soft tissue and proteins have been reported in at least one of these specimens. The abundance of fossil material has allowed significant research into many aspects of its biology, including life history and biomechanics. The feeding habits, physiology and potential speed of Tyrannosaurus rex are a few subjects of debate. Its taxonomy is also controversial, with some scientists considering Tarbosaurus bataar from Asia to represent a second species of Tyrannosaurus and others maintaining Tarbosaurus as a separate genus. Several other genera of North American tyrannosaurids have also been synonymized with Tyrannosaurus.

Summary: Photograph shows Houdini standing by the side of the Charles River wearing chains and handcuffs.

Notes:

• Title devised by Library staff.

• Master of the "Impossible Possible," Houdini performs one of his stunning manacled jumps from Harvard Bridge, followed by an under-water escape in the Charles River. As with his upside-down straitjacket escapes, Houdini's jumps drew huge crowds and publicized his stage appearances. In 1908, he appeared in Boston for two weeks at Keith's theater, a major venue on the Keith Vaudeville Circuit.

• Forms part of: McManus-Young collection of pictorial material relating to magic.

• Exhibited as a digital copy in: "Not an Ostrich: And Other Images from America's Library" at the Annenberg Space for Photography, 2018; Arts section.

Stars: always making a dramatic exit!

Webb’s powerful infrared eye has captured never-before-seen detail of Cassiopeia A (Cas A), the remnant of a massive star that exploded about 340 years ago - from our perspective here on Earth. (Despite being 11,000 light-years away, this supernova may have been visible to the naked eye when it took place, something that has not been seen in our galaxy since.)

Let’s dissect the image: The left side of the image (shown in orange) marks where ejected material from the exploded star is ramming into surrounding gas and dust. Within that outer shell is material from the star itself, including elements like oxygen, argon and neon. What’s that green loop on the right? Scientists are still puzzling out its unexpected shape and complexity.

As the youngest known remnant from an exploded, massive star in our galaxy, Cas A offers unique clues into a star’s death. By studying Cas A, Webb astronomers may also learn more about the origins and production of cosmic dust — which forms the elements we’re made of.

Image description: A roughly square image is rotated clockwise about 45 degrees, with solid black in the corners. Within the image is a roughly circular nebula with complex structure. On the circle’s exterior, particularly at the top and left, lie curtains of material glowing orange. Interior to this outer shell lies a ring of mottled filaments of bright pink studded with clumps and knots. At center right, a greenish loop extends from the right side of the ring into the central cavity. Translucent wisps of blue, green and red are throughout the image.

Not a 'quality' shot as he was backlit and on the other side of a large field, but this bull was patiently allowing the five jackdaws to pull hair off of his back to line their nests with! They would fly off with a beak full of hair and then quickly come back for more. I love discovering behaviours like this and it's even better when I can capture it :)

While walking through the Backus Woods near Long Point in southern Ontario last month a female Scarlet Tanager dropped down to the ground in front of us and began gathering nesting material. She was so close that I had to back up to get her into minimum focal distance.

She spent a lot of time tugging at a piece of root presumably to use it to weave onto her nest. In this image she has a piece of twig in her bill.
