Este arrecife que se puede observar desde el mirador de las sirenas, junto al faro de Cabo de Gata, es una de las vistas más emblemáticas y fotografiadas del Parque. Está situado en el punto geográfico exacto del cabo de Gata, por tanto es la parte más oriental del sur de España. Seguramente el lugar debe su nombre a la presencia de focas monje que habitaban este arrecife y que los antiguos navegantes podían confundir con sirenas, actualmente ya no hay presencia de estos mamíferos en la costa de Cabo de Gata.
Las formaciones del arrecife que se elevan por encima del nivel del agua son antiguas chimeneas volcánicas, y que deben su color oscuro al material volcado por ellas. Desde lo alto del mirador se pueden observar los escarpados acantilados de la zona y en el fondo, el agua que rodea el arrecife, es como un cristal que nos permite observar el mosaico del fondo marino coloreando el mar de turquesas, verdes y todas las tonalidades de azul.

Il Parc Güell fu progettato agli inizi del Novecento dall’architetto catalano Antoni Gaudì; anche qui, come in altre sue opere, l’artista ha utilizzato il trencadìs, ovvero una tecnica decorativa che unisce frammenti di ceramica e pezzi di vetro colorati, riproducendo una sorta di mosaico con materiali di scarto.
Nel punto centrale del parco, in una grande piazza, si trova un’enorme panchina di 110 metri di lunghezza, dall’aspetto di un serpente, ricoperta da un mosaico di variopinte tessere colorate .
Nel suo stile c’è quello di legare la natura all’arte; tra gli esempi riprodotti a Parc Güell troviamo la passeggiata coperta con delle colonne che hanno le forme dei tronchi degli alberi, fontane e arcate artificiali di roccia e diverse sculture in calcestruzzo che rappresentano un universo di animali fantastici .
Parc Güell è uno dei simboli di Barcellona ed è inserito nell’elenco dei Patrimoni dell’umanità Unesco.
All’ingresso principale ci sono due case che sembrano uscite da una favola. Una è utilizzata come negozio, mentre l’altra, la Casa del Guarda, accoglie esposizioni audiovisive sulla storia del parco.

I don't know what this Red-necked Grebe is transporting, it almost looks like a dirty net of some kind, but it ends up part of the grebe's nest. Makes sense!
Thought I'd give the ole 2X tele a try with the 600 and the new R5. I was curious to see how that combination works together and I think it looks great! What do you think?

Their long fine beaks allow them to extract otherwise inaccessible seeds from thistles and teasels. Not that you can see it in this image. LOL

Here's a Red-shouldered Hawk on its way to the nest with some additional nesting material. I believe that the Florida Red-shouldered breed earlier than the species in other parts of the country. Once site had them breeding from January to May when general reference books state the species breed from May to July. In any event, I'm hoping that they are not just faking us out and that we have some new chicks to celebrate. In the course of my reading I learned that the females are larger than the males (probably smarter too) and that the pair are monogamous. Having said that, I've never been able to see the size difference but will pay more attention in the future. Happy 2023 everyone. (Buteo lineatus)
What can be the reason behind flower favourites? (They fit your photographic style? Childhood memories? Fragrance? Perfect material in which to project your self?) These remain a favourite for me, Spring or Fall.

Le « Schweissdissi », emblème fort de la ville, était sans doute le choix le plus facile à faire pour l’artiste, tant il est porteur de symboles quant au riche passé industriel de la Cité du Bollwerk. La position assise de l’homme est liée au chômage (disparition des grandes manufactures mulhousiennes). Il s'agit pour l'essentiel de pièces de mécanique automobile qui proviennent d’une société de recyclage de matériaux et de vieux outils puisés dans le bric-à-brac personnel d'Yves Carrey.

Which material is better suited to make a work of art for the fire station than fire hoses, Ostend sculptor Josiane Vanhoutte must have thought.
Commissioned by the state of Ostend, she made this creation in honour of the Fire Rescue Service, who bravely defies the fiercest flames.
The statue was unveiled on 19 October 1998 together with the commissioning of the new fire station.

… dal mio mare ... momenti emozionanti….vissuti con passione ed eccitazione tra scogliere e cale di sabbia soffice nelle acque limpide e azzurre del mar Ionio, solleticata dalle sfumature cristalline.
La Marina di Pulsano si affaccia sul Golfo di Taranto con una costa di circa 8 chilometri, da Luogovivo a La Fontana, da Le Canne a Montedarena, da Ospedale Capparone fino a Lido Silvana.
SALUTI SALATI
C’è stato un tempo in cui i saluti, in qualsiasi momento dell’anno, venivano scritti sulle cartoline.
Le mitiche cartoline, appartengono ormai alla storia.
Fino a qualche decennio fa, specie d’estate, le cartoline erano un passaggio obbligatorio.
Trovare le cartoline, scriverle e poi, naturalmente, spedirle, rappresentava un momento fondamentale delle nostre vacanze e poco importava dove le trascorressimo.
Paesello sconosciuto, località marina o città d’arte, non c’era luogo che non prevedesse il rito della cartolina illustrata che, ad ogni estate, si perpetuava con le stesse identiche modalità.
Prima si stilava la lista di persone a cui mandarle, poi c’era la scelta della cartolina, un’operazione per nulla semplice.
Nei paesini più sperduti, trovare delle cartoline decenti rappresentava un’impresa, anche perché il rischio di mandare ogni anno le stesse era molto alto. Gli scorci riprodotti sulle cartoline impilate nei raccoglitori della tabaccheria, erano proprio pochi. Insomma se si era fortunati quattro, cinque tipi, non di più.
Se ci trovavamo al mare, vista la maggiore offerta, era decisamente più semplice. In questi casi ci si poteva sbizzarrire fra mare e spiagge.
Terminata la fase dell’acquisto delle cartoline, a cui contestualmente era legato quello dei famigerati francobolli, ecco arrivare il momento della scrittura.
Scrivere una cartolina non era una cosa da poco.
Dopo averle acquistate e scritte, arrivava il momento cruciale della spedizione.
Ovviamente prima di imbucarle nelle mitiche buche delle lettere, (quelle rosse con la doppia fessura “per la città” e “per tutte le altre destinazioni”), c’era da attaccare i francobolli.
Si trattava di rettangolini di carta, con una delle due facce variamente istoriata, da collocare generalmente in alto a destra, nell’apposito riquadro.
I francobolli nel pleistocene si leccavano, visto che quelli adesivi erano ancora un miraggio.
Oggi di cartoline non se ne spediscono quasi più, anzi a malapena se ne trovano o si ricercano.

It looks as though this greater coucal (centropus sinensis) is about to peck its way into a large fruit. Not true!! The bird was actually gathering nesting material by pulling off individual leaf fibres. Photographed in Khao Lak, Phang Nga, Thailand.
