New Holland Honeyeater
Phylidonyris novaehollandiae
With long, slender beaks and a tongue which can protrude well beyond the end of their beaks, New Holland Honeyeaters are able to probe for nectar in the deep flowers of Banksias and Grevilleas.
Calls: The voice comprises a loud 'chik', a fainter 'pseet' and some chattering notes. If danger, such as a bird of prey approaches, a group of honeyeaters will join together and give a loud alarm call.
Minimum Size: 18cm
Maximum Size: 18cm
Average size: 18cm
Average weight: 20g
Breeding season: any time of year; mainly summer and winter
Clutch Size: 2 to 3
Incubation: 18 days
Nestling Period: 16 days
Description: The New Holland Honeyeater is mostly black and white, with a large yellow wing patch and yellow sides on the tail. It has a small white ear patch, a thin white whisker at the base of the bill and a white eye. This honeyeater is an active bird, and rarely sits still long enough to give an extended view. Sexes are similar in looks, but females are slightly smaller in size. Young birds are browner and have a grey eye.
Similar species: One very similar species is the White-cheeked Honeyeater,Phylidonyris nigra. This species has a single large white cheek patch and a dark eye. The two species frequently occur together.
Distribution: The New Holland Honeyeater's range extends throughout southern Australia, from about Brisbane, Queensland, to just north of Perth, Western Australia.
Habitat: The New Holland Honeyeater is common in heath, forests, woodland and gardens, mainly where grevilleas and banksias are found. It is inquisitive and approaches humans. It also mixes with other types of honeyeaters.
Feeding: New Holland Honeyeaters are active feeders. They mostly eat the nectar of flowers, and busily dart from flower to flower in search of this high-energy food. Other food items include fruit, insects and spiders. Birds may feed alone, but normally gather in quite large groups. Most feeding takes place in lower areas of bushes and thickets.
Breeding: The New Holland Honeyeater's cup-shaped nest is made of bark and grasses, bound together with spider web. It is lined with soft material and is placed in a bush or tree, anywhere from ground level up to 6 m. Both sexes feed the chicks. A pair of adults may raise two or three broods in a year.

This spring the Carolina wrens chose an old birdhouse wedged in a corner between our sunroom and an abelia bush for their first nest of the season. it was a perfect location for me to observe them as the parents took building materials into the birdhouse, and to watch them as they took food into the nest for the youngsters. Yesterday as I was doing some weeding I noticed one of the little ones had fledged and was sitting on a branch nearby. I went inside to make a cup of tea, and took the tea into the sunroom to watch the parents bring food to the remaining youngsters. I saw two wide open mouths waiting for food. I turned to put my tea on a nearby table and when I returned to the window the last of the youngsters was halfway out of the opening, looking scared, but bravely took that leap onto land. I watched as it floundered a bit to figure out how to use its legs and wings, but suddenly it flew into the abelia bush. That was the last of the little ones to leave the nest. But as I watched I noticed that the parents were still bringing food, and they looked puzzled when they realized those hungry babies were no longer there. They continued this for another five minutes, then finally realized that the nest was empty. When I looked at the abelia bush I counted four little ones and the two parents sitting close to each other. Once the youngsters leave the nest they stay close to the parents for awhile but the parents no longer feed them. Now the gray catbirds have claimed the bush for their nest. That bush must be prime avian real estate, as the cardinals have also been establishing a nest in it. Backyard bird.
Rangierfahrt in Tfzf (KGT) Werneuchen - Birkenwerder im Bahnhof Werneuchen. Die Lok hatte an diesem Tag als erste Zugfahrt seit über 10 Jahren die ersten Meter der Strecke Richtung Tiefensee befahren und ist nun auf der Rückfahrt. Zu der Zeit wurde der Abschnitt Werneuchen - Tiefensee gerade wieder hergerichtet. Mittlerweile ist er bis Tiefensee befahrbar und wird gelegentlich von der KGT befahren, um das am Endpunkt neu errichtete Lager für Baustoffe und Maschinen zu bedienen.
Shunting run in Tfzf (KGT) Werneuchen - Birkenwerder at Werneuchen station. The locomotive had run the first meters of the line in the direction of Tiefensee on this day as the first train trip in over 10 years and is now on the return trip. At that time, the Werneuchen - Tiefensee section was being rebuilt. In the meantime, it is passable up to Tiefensee and is occasionally used by the KGT to serve the newly built facility for construction materials and machinery at the terminus.

The railway line no. 104 (Chabówka - Nowy Sącz) materially doesn't exist almost at all, nowadays, because of the general modernization and simultaneous construction of the brand new line "Podłęże - Piekiełko" that will join mainline from Kraków to the old 104 and they will together become the new and fastest connection between Kraków and Nowy Sącz. So we will not see the old and almost untouched by modernity Transversal Railroad.
One of the first piece of infrastructure that felt the impact of changes was the station Rabka Zaryte, just couple of kms away from the zero milestone. As it was actually one of just two stations on this line with still operating mechanical semaphores (although we should put the word "operating" in quotation marks) the loss is even more painful.

Linia kolejowa 104 (Chabówka - Nowy Sącz) aktualnie w zasadzie nie istnieje z uwagi na jej kompleksową modernizację i równoległą budowę nowej linii Podłęże - Piekiełko. Obie linie razem, jak jjuż powstaną, stanowić będą najdogodniejsze połączenie Krakowa z Nowym Sączem. Stara, bardzo klimatyczna z punktu widzenia miłośników kolei linia Kolei Transwersalnej przesszła więc do historii. Jednym z pierwszych miejsc, gdzie wbił się ząb modernizacji była ładna stacyjka Rabka Zaryte, położona zaledwie kilka kilometrów od punktu początkowego linii 104. Była to zarazem jedna z dwóch (obok Mszany Dolnej) stacji na tej linii z wciąż czynnymi starymi semaforami kształtowymi (chociaż "czynnymi" to może nadużycie, gdyż z uwagi na nieobsadzone posterunki, obie stacje pracowały tylko jedną głowicą).
A oto małe wspomnienie: pociąg turystyczny "Transwersalny" z Chabówki do Nowego Sącza, prowadzony SM42-1031 w historycznym malowaniu wjeżdża na stację Rabka Zaryte. 26 lipca 2020 roku.

I riti della Settimana Santa a Grottaglie: dal ‘600 ai giorni nostri

I riti della Settimana Santa si fanno risalire all’epoca della dominazione spagnola nell’Italia meridionale.
Le manifestazioni per ricordare la Passione e la morte di Cristo hanno ancora molte affinità con quelle di alcune città della Spagna.
A Grottaglie, la processione dei Misteri, è curata fin dai primi anni del Settecento dalla Confraternita del Purgatorio.
I riti della Settimana Santa iniziavano il Giovedì di Passione, quando la Confraternita del Purgatorio traslava la Vergine Addolorata dalla Chiesa delle Clarisse alla Chiesa Madre. La statua entrava in Chiesa alla fine della predica quaresimale, dopo che il Priore bussava per tre volte al portone interno della stessa. Il Venerdì di Passione, i confratelli del Purgatorio, rivestiti con l’abito sacro e incappucciati, portavano in processione la Madonna Addolorata cantando inni sacri intervallati dalle note della banda musicale.
Il pellegrinaggio dei “Bbubbli Bbubbli a lla scazáta” (confratelli della Confraternita del Carmine scalzi) è uno dei pochi riti ancora rimasti intatti, svolto sia di Giovedì che di Venerdì Santo, fino all’inizio della cerimonia della Passione e Morte del Signore.
Il Venerdì Santo, a conclusione del rito della Passio Christi, uscivano le sacre statue dei Misteri con la Vergine Addolorata a cura della Confraternita del Purgatorio; una processione che ancora oggi resiste e che vede tanta religiosità popolare e suggestione per quei volti sofferenti di Cristo e di Sua Madre. Le statue dei "misteri", portate a spalle da confratelli e da uomini vestiti di nero erano accompagnate da donne in abito di lutto, tra le struggenti note di inni religiosi e funerei, che obbligavano a meditare sul mistero della morte e della resurrezione.
Cinque tra le sacre statue sono in cartapesta e si pensa che possano risalire ad un periodo compreso tra la fine del Settecento e gli inizi dell'Ottocento: "Cristo all'orto", "Cristo alla colonna", "Cristo alla canna", "la Cascata" e "Cristo crocifisso". In legno è invece il "Cristo Morto", mentre "l'Addolorata" è rappresentata da un tipico manichino rivestito con abiti in tessuto nero.
Nella processione dei Misteri, i Confratelli della Confraternita del Purgatorio portano a spalla solo il Cristo Morto e la Madonna Addolorata e, durante il suo svolgersi, viene spesso cantato lo struggente "Inno a Cristo Morto", musicato nella prima metà del Novecento dal Maestro Giuseppe Cardone su versi di Maria Ciocia D'Ettole.
Particolare interesse suscitavano gli “squilli di tromba” seguiti dai “lugubri rintocchi del tamburo” e dal “fragoroso crepitare della troccola” agitata nervosamente dalla mano del confratello, che ad intervalli regolari si udivano nel silenzio della notte

Situado à beira do Rio Nervión, em Bilbau, Espanha, o Museu Guggenheim caracteriza-se pela fusão de complexas formas curvilíneas e uma materialidade cativante, respondendo a um programa extenso e um contexto urbano industrial. Com mais de uma centena de exposições e mais de dez milhões de visitantes, o Museu de Frank Gehry não só mudou a maneira que os arquitetos e o público pensam sobre museus, mas também impulsionou a economia de Bilbau com o seu surpreendente sucesso. De fato, o fenômeno da transformação de uma cidade após a construção de uma peça arquitetônica significativa é agora referida como o "Efeito Bilbao". Após vinte anos, o Museu continua a desafiar suposições sobre as conexões entre arte e arquitetura.
Em 1991, o governo basco propôs à Fundação Solomon R. Guggenheim que financiasse um museu Guggenheim a ser construído na zona portuária degradada de Bilbau, que na época constituía-se como a principal fonte de renda da cidade. O museu passou a fazer parte de um plano de desenvolvimento maior, cujo objetivo era renovar e modernizar a cidade industrial. Clipes de fixação criam uma pequena deformação no centro das peças de 0.38mm de titânio, fazendo com que a superfície pareça ondular com a alteração da luz e dando uma iridescência extraordinária na composição total.

In plants veins transport materials both to and from the plant tissues. In mammals however veins return blood back to the heart after it has traveled to parts of the body and delivered oxygen. The veins carry the deoxygenated blood
(which has picked up carbon dioxide on its journey) to the heart where it is again oxygenated for recirculation through the body via arteries. In plants veins perform both functions - they are a plant's life line, and plants are our life line.
During photosynthesis which requires light, plants produce and give off oxygen. At night when there is no light, plants absorb a small amount of oxygen and give off carbon dioxide; however overall, they produce many times more oxygen during the day than they consume at night. And that my friends, is what keeps us and our planet alive.
"In the process [photosynthesis], they produce oxygen, which constitutes a significant portion of the air we breathe so less plants means less recycling of
carbon dioxide and less oxygen production. Plants also give us food and fibers to make clothes and without photosynthesis, we would not be able to sustain the life we are living."
