I kind of want to rant for the lack of Saturdays for me my need to explore and learn things on my own. Also the Thanksgiving week break that was supposed to be for me didn't fully be for me. It's more like people asking me stuff to make rather than me getting to read and learn new stuff that I want.
So today it's another full day of me helping my friend with her teaching materials.
But at the same time I am learning new ways to improve my sewing.
Her training to become a teacher is really not for the faint of heart. I hope she will become an awesome teacher which I think she will.

Dad is still okay, I guess, but he’s getting a little more confused and forgetful. Staying with him full-time has been such a blessing for both of us. I have been keeping busy helping Dad do things that he just can’t do. Now that they are just about done, I feel he’s starting to let go. There’s not as much for him to think about. He read the whole paper today, but couldn’t get past one page in his book that he wants to read. Sometimes during the day he is very lucid, and sometimes he just sits and stares into space, then talks out loud to himself. His medication hasn’t been increased, so the reason may be the slow progression of cancer or just plain getting old. I hope Dad has a good time at our family get together in two weeks to help him celebrate turning 91.
As I care for my dad and watch him slip away, I can’t help crying. He means everything to me. As the time gets closer I am not going to write about it…I don’t think, for fear the tears will short out my laptop.
For now, I’m trying to keep myself busy with my own unfinished projects, just to keep my mind occupied. It’s getting harder to get out to take my picture of the day. So, try as I will to be creative in this house and yard.
So far, I have finished one project, a holiday table centerpiece. Maybe I’ll try to take a picture of it on another day.
Today I have been working on gifts for the Hospice nurse, night nurse, social worker. Maybe tomorrow I’ll show you the finished project.
This stool belonged to my wife's grandmother, Mary Roberta Ray (1897-1990). Someone "Repaired" it by tacking oilcloth over the original seat. It looked like cane but a closer inspection made me think it was paper. I found 1/2" wide paper splint sold by the pound at www.basketmakerscatalog.com .
Attendees gathered in the exhibit hall for an opening reception and poster presentation session. Poster presenters displayed their work and answered viewers' questions, exhibitors talked with potential clients, and everyone enjoyed food and drinks in the relaxed atmosphere of the exhibit hall.

This bird spent hours pulling my neighbor's window screen, most likely to build a nest. I'm guessing they will have to go pretty soon to the hardware store to get a new window screen.
RAINBOW BLANKET
Materials: Heirloom/Bendigo Cotton 8ply in 12 colours
I used my stash of 200g balls in each colour.
If you use 50g balls I estimate approximately 1 to 1.5 x 50g balls of each colour; depending on size of blanket, and your tension/gauge.
Hook: 4mm
Size: 86.4 x 86.4cm (34 x 34in) (excluding the edging)
Tension/Gauge: 2.5 fans/shells over 10cm (4in)
The pattern is written in British Crochet terms, but it is easy to follow and easy to convert to US Crochet terms.

Wollaton Hall has a collection of managed deer within their parkland. Although I've seen other peoples photos of jackdaws collecting fur from deer, to this point I'd never witnessed it. I was pleased on this occasion, to not only see them, but to photograph it as well, and not one but two of them, They made several trips, so presumably had a very cosy nest as a result.
Old iron scrap from the blacksmiths' forge at Touchstone. I used a lot of this in the work that I made while as "artist in residence" there.
Today Fuu helped me sort through some forgotten fabric I found in a cupboard! I have TONNES of the stuff - must be at least 150 different prints!
Time for some dresses, me thinks...
This is the specimen that inspired Lewis Carroll. Like all mounted dodo specimens, it is mostly not a dodo specimen. Probably only the bill and feet are genuine dodo material. The rest is chicken feathers, wire-mesh, and stuffing. Only bits and pieces of real dodos survive.
I live in Bath with my artist/writer husband.
I make bespoke textile, bead and button jewellery. I work with a mixture of reclaimed materials and offcuts of cloth, beads/buttons etc. I firmly believe in the recycled art movement and I am inspired by modern art and contemporary and vintage fashion.
My recent collections are made of a mixture of textiles, including silk, small beads and buttons, and braids from India and other far eastern countries, some modern and other vintage.
