Chartres Cathedral, also known as the Cathedral of Our Lady of Chartres (French: Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Chartres), is a Roman Catholic church in Chartres, France, about 80 km (50 miles) southwest of Paris and is the seat of the Diocese of Chartres. Mostly constructed between 1194 and 1220, it stands at the site of at least five cathedrals that have occupied the site since Chartres became a bishopric in the 4th century. It is in the Gothic and Romanesque styles.
It is designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, which calls it "the high point of French Gothic art" and a "masterpiece".[

Since you all seem to enjoy my sunset/rise photos, here's one more: the king of them all. It's amazing what you can find tucked away in a large file. I am quite pleased with the colors in this one.
Thanks for commenting!
I´m very proud that this photo was chosed by very talented Violaliena as a cover art for her amazing and wonderful fairy tale.
She is participating in a literary contest and made it to the semifinals. Congratulation! The theme of her story is: ”Prince Charming doesn’t exist”. (Il Principe Azzurro non esiste)

The original one is created by Tawaraya Sotatsu, a famous artist in the 17th century. It's painting on a folding screen.
We all like to reflect. 2017 is a year to definitely reflect on. This image captures silence, peace and a reflection of its own self. We take many things for granted but most importantly we never appreciate what we’ve personally achieved enough. Always waiting for someone else’s approval. If you feel you’ve done the best you can for yourself or others then pat yourself on the back and be proud of your achievements. Be humble in defeat and respectful in glory. I hope your 2017 was as good as you could have imagined.
An abandoned hospital in Germany.
While exploring this building we became aware that the police were outside possibly looking for us, we hid in the basement of this epic building in pitch darkness, barely daring to breath while we waited for the gun toting police to leave.
The Musée d'Orsay (French pronunciation: [myze dɔʁsɛ]) is a museum in Paris, France, on the Left Bank of the Seine. It is housed in the former Gare d'Orsay, a Beaux-Arts railway station built between 1898 and 1900. The museum holds mainly French art dating from 1848 to 1914, including paintings, sculptures, furniture, and photography. It houses the largest collection of impressionist and post-Impressionist masterpieces in the world, by painters including Monet, Manet, Degas, Renoir, Cézanne, Seurat, Sisley, Gauguin, and Van Gogh. Many of these works were held at the Galerie nationale du Jeu de Paume prior to the museum's opening in 1986. It is one of the largest art museums in Europe.

Being more of a Marvel Comics continuity fan, than an animated series fan, Ratchet is one of my favorite characters and the worst G1 figure. It’s nice to see Ratchet get the 5 star treatment. 🍻

"Nature's great masterpiece, an elephant - the only harmless great thing."
(John Donne - English poet, 1572-1631)
This is a close-up of a couple of elephants met in a street of New Delhi.
It is still the shaadi season (wedding season) and a few mahouts (persons who drive an elephant) come to the capital in order to make some money at Baraat, the bridegroom's wedding procession.

The Sagrada Família - what a masterpiece designed by Gaudí! Incredibly fascinating because of its size, organic shapes and lines, and the attention to details.
David is a masterpiece of Renaissance sculpture created between 1501 and 1504, by the famous Italian artist Michelangelo. It is a 5.17-metre (17.0 ft) marble statue of a standing male nude.
The statue represents the Biblical hero David, a favoured subject in the art of Florence. Originally commissioned as one of a series of statues of prophets to be positioned along the roofline of the east end of Florence Cathedral, the statue was instead placed in a public square, outside the Palazzo della Signoria, the seat of civic government in Florence, where it was unveiled on 8 September 1504.
Because of the nature of the hero that it represented, it soon came to symbolize the defense of civil liberties embodied in the Florentine Republic, an independent city-state threatened on all sides by more powerful rival states and by the hegemony of the Medici family. The eyes of David, with a warning glare, were turned towards Rome.
The statue was moved to the Accademia Gallery in Florence in 1873, and later replaced at the original location by a replica.

I'm back from the Tour Auto Optic 2000 and two days in Monaco, and had the awesome opportunity to spot a marvellous Koenigsegg One:1 in the wild. I'm still shocked of seeing it !

In the picturesque village of Fiskardo, in a side street I came upon this artwork. Someone had recognised the beauty of these window shutters and instead of throwing them away had displayed them on his/her wall.

In november of last year I went to the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam and took some background photo's for composite photos. Yesterday and today my nephew came to visit and I took him into the studio.

Roof
Have you already noticed that St. Stephen's Cathedral is never completely snowed?
Why this is so reveals the roof construction:
A masterpiece of technology made of 605 tons of steel, which replaced the miracle work of Gothic carpentry of 2000 cubic meters of larch wood after the catastrophic fire in 1945 - this corresponds to the amount of wood in a forest the size of the district of Josefstadt (8th district of Vienna).
Today's roof is 110m long and 37.85m high, 230,000 colorfully glazed bricks determine the uniqueness of the cathedral roof.
It is almost inconceivable that the sloping roof at the steepest points has an angle of 80 °.
A practical consideration lies behind it: due to the high discharge speed of the rainwater, the roof is self-cleaning - and so also the snow slips off before it can cover up the colorful splendor of the roof.
Dach
