Poor Maple Tree or how to get a Lumberjack into your backyard
Unfortunately we lost the maple tree in our garden this Monday - Some kind of disease called Maple Wilt - the disease starts in the root system and spreads up through the sapwood into the upper branches of the tree, causing big limbs to start dying back.
It's prime sugaring season here in NE Ohio. The highs are supposed to hit 40 today and the lows tonight in the high 20's. Here's to a good sap collection today!

The Japanese maple next door was looking unbelievably spectacular today. It was practically glowing, even without the sun on it. I'm not sure it's ever looked that awesome!

I've posted some more shots of the squirrel I've named "White Ears" taken with the 100-400mm lens I borrowed from a friend. I was impressed with the lack of pixelization, considering that I took these at dusk, handheld, with the 1.4X extender, and at 6400 ISO. Yes, there still is pixelization, but it is minimal when you take in all of those aspects.
I can't wait to get my own 100-400 lens! It will be soon I hope!

So I'm pleased with the composition, but it doesn't glow. Perhaps it has to do with the fact that I shot this while a dense fog had settled just over the garden.
While framing and focusing on a tree with backlit leaves, the out of focus image better represented the feel of the scene, than the in focus view.
