These happy cows were chosen for the Third Wave Exhibition and were exhibited in Berkeley, CA and at the OutOfMyMind Gallery in Bremen, Germany.
I think this is a maple tree taken in the Redwoods National and State Parks. I wanted to show how far up the canopy is in the forest because of the redwood trees. They can reach up to 300 feet in height and the other trees have to grow very tall to compete with the sunlight. The forest is so dense that little light comes down to the forest floor. Only plants that can survive on less light grow on the ground. The dominate plants were ferns that added to the magical feel to the forest.

The Japanese Maple Tree at the Portland Japanese Garden is something to behold and has become the symbol of the garden because of its delicate beauty and amazing shape.

An ancient, but still living, sugar maple bears the remnants of barbed wire strung up years ago. It's one of the few surviving giants growing along a section of the old Sanborn Road, close to my childhood home. I hiked through here frequently as a kid. Most of the other larger trees have fallen or are dying.
This is "SOOC," save for a bit of extra sharpening. The default JPEG setting on the X100v leaves images a bit soft for my taste. I've just adjusted the sharpness setting to +1 to see if that does the trick.
The maple trees in Exhibition Park are dense and provide a fairly thick canopy over large portions of the park.
A colourful Walk..
On Monday we hiked into the south end of heart lake and spent the morning and part of the afternoon, wandering through the woods taking photos of the brilliant coloured trees. The pathway was covered in a carpet of leaves that crunched under our feet as we walked.
There is nothing quite like being in the middle of a forest, when it is raining leaves from the lofty canopy overhead.

Wandiligong is a town in north-eastern Victoria in the alpine region around 330 kilometres from Melbourne. Established in the 1850s as part of the Victorian Gold Rush, Wandiligong became a hub for many gold miners, including a large Chinese community. At its peak, the town was home to over two thousand inhabitants and boasted shops, churches, a public library, halls and even an hotel. Much has changed since those heady days of the gold rush, and the picturesque town nestled in a valley and built around the Morses Creek, is now a sleepy little town full of picturesque houses which are often let to visitors to the area. The whole town is registered with the National Trust of Australia for its historic landscape and buildings of historic value.

Robins love evenings. During spring they would be singing. During fall, a few chirps will do. Like a content old couple out for dinner.

14 Feb 2009. Valentine's Day with our maple (I think I see a heart in the sky above the tree!). I nearly forgot to upload this one, due to the 300+ shots I took yesterday. I feel crazed with my Nikon. I was glad to get out in the morning while the previous night's snow still lingered on the branches. The snow and clouds both disappeared almost completely during the afternoon. It was a gorgeous day, and I spent most of it hiking the woods. One of my favorite days of 2009.
A male House Finch (Carpodacus mexicanus) keeping a close eye on the sky. We have had a Hawk dropping in recently so I think the little birds are cautious!
This sheep had some lovely Fall colours to enjoy while she grazed on the grass,but I don't really think she cared much about the view!

5 June 2009. I can't believe June is already here. We've had some very warm days, and even one small stretch of hot weather, but mainly it's been fairly cool, so it's hard to think that summer really is here, for all intents and purposes. Our maple was basking in the warming June air this time: about 83F with some big, puffy cumulus clouds floating past the hot sun. Overall a glorious day for a walk and a visit to our maple. I realized that I don't like sweating while taking pictures. Can't wait 'til it really gets hot (yep, that's sarcasm).
