In the Charles Sauriol Conservation Area, along the Don Valley trails, there's a small clearing, in the midst of which stands this majestic maple. Its brilliant yellow leaves -- half on the tree, and half on the ground -- made the whole area glow golden.
'Tamukeyama' foliage begins spring with bright red growth, deepens to burgundy during summer, and then turns scarlet in fall. The intricately cut leaves look like lace and bring a soft and fine texture to the landscape with their long cascading branches. This rediscovered long lived tree, listed in Japan as early as 1710, is now replacing many contemporary cultivars due in part to its ability to resist fading in summer.
This tress gets more amazing every autumn. The name is October Glory Maple, but at this latitude it's a November performer.
More than 150 Soldiers from the Nebraska Army National Guard’s 1-376th Aviation Regiment traveled to Camp Wainwright in Alberta, Canada, May 8-24, for Exercise Maple Resolve 2018, the Canadian Army’s most comprehensive annual training event designed for any contingency operation. This year’s Maple Resolve included approximately 6,000 service members from Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia and France. Working with Canadian Armed Forces, primarily from 5 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group (5 CMBG), Nebraska’s aviation battalion served two primary missions, including 24-hour medical evacuation training and support, and air support to all ground defenses.
