I started making these images with a Polaroid SX70 camera given to me by a friend who found it at a garage sale for 5 bucks. Using any blunt instrument, you could manipulate the TimeZero image after development for several hours before the emulsion hardened. I began making these in about 1999 and by 2005 the film was gone. The new film, Polaroid Originals by the Impossible Project, is a weak substitute and cannot be manipulated.
To the memory of Warren Zevon.
…You said you were an actress
Yes, I believe you are
I thought you'd be a star
So I drank up all the money,
Yes, I drank up all the money,
With these phonies in this Hollywood bar,
These friends of mine in this Hollywood bar
Loneliness and frustration
We both came down with an acute case
And when the lights came up at two
I caught a glimpse of you
And your face looked like something
Death brought with him in his suitcase...

Edit: I've submitted this piece to the 'Your Design City' Group. 20 shortlisted photographs will be printed and exhibited in the Design Museum in London :)
I've been trying to get a good street shot since I moved into the new place. This is the first that was worth posting...
I like it. I have no idea why he happened to glance across me like that, but it made a good capture, I think
For Second Shotz, edit #7
Originally, this was going to be a desert scene, but I had to get rid of the water first.
Another little piece of play with my favorite made-up GIMP technique. Hope you enjoy, and please let me know what you think!
Inspired by Donnie Darko. This one was just an experiment to see how I'd form the thing coming out of my chest. If you haven't watched Donnie Darko, I suggest you watch it so you can understand this photo!

how much can one heart take
when it's bruised and torn in two
how far can your strength run
when it's pushed to limits new
why can't things stay the same
why does this have to change so fast
i miss those easy days
when nothing mattered
if i could take a breathe for you
keep holding on
not waiting for the day
when our story has to end
since flickr announced free accounts will be limited to 1000 photos i have been busy downloading and trimming my photostream. having been on flickr for just over 10 years, i have over 3000 photos in my stream. so winnowing it has taken me a lot of time. i suppose i could have fork over the money for a pro account. that's probably what flickr has been counting on. i had a pro account a while back when it was a lot cheaper. but i never find it useful. perhaps it is more useful to a professional photographer though i do not know how. the most annoying about this whole cleanup exercise is there does not seems to be a way to save the photos and their descriptions as single page. that's a real shame because i use my stream more like a blog. the descriptions give meanings to the photos. losing all that is not nice. but i suppose i shouldn't complain since the account is free. lucky someone warned me years back i should keep local archives instead of storing my photos online. can't imagine downloading my entire archives over the internet. with net neutrality dead, i'm sure my service provider will throttle me down to one photo per second after 10-20 gig or so. anyways the cleanup is done now. the 1000 photos limit is not all bad. it ensures there will be less pain when i finally leave flickr which may come sooner than later
For this weeks project phase, I focused more taking pictures indoors and taking more decorations as a subject for my still life proposal. I focused more on the direction of my lighting this week. I think I got the tone and the vibe of my images, I just need to work more on my lighting, the angle, and somewhat my exposure. I still have to do a lot of bracketing to see which one would really work out. But next time on the next phase, I might try something that gives meaning, instead of just random decoration, but for now I am just testing out the lighting and how I could manipulate it and whatnot.
This image had some major touchup. It was taken with the Powershot's colormode to keep the sculpture's orange color in a black and white picture. Behind the mainbuilding some construction work scaffolding was removed and the overexposed sky was replaced by a grayscaled one from a completely different image :-)
Study the photo out first then read on...
First of a series on Relationships / Emotions / Etc.
All too often we see people in our lives and have no idea what they are going through in their personal lives. "The Manipulator".
Also, I found that a few of my images had been downloaded and are all over the web now under different peoples names etc. so all of my future images will be watermarked, if you don't like watermarks ( I don't ), then tough tootie...
Thanks to Janel and Shea for being my models and guineapigs...
337. Sunday 2nd of December. Another evening of gritty self portraits. Expressing myself as me. Wanting to burst out of your skin and explode. The photo was printed and manipulated by hand then scanned onto my laptop. 337/366
Polaroid is so important to me and to my art and to art in general.
This was taken im my studio space. It's about who I am and where I'm comfortabel.
Polaroid provides a medium to capture personal moments and spaces that might have been lost previously.
It is mysterious and magical and you are provided with an unravelling image that slowly recaptures a memory you've just formed and may have so easily let slip away.
It is vital that we keep this medium alive...and kicking.
Okay - for the purists amongst us I have to declare that I have manipulated this image somewhat, around the mouth. :) If you look close you'll see that the whiskers follow the cheeky grin, rather than splaying out naturally.
slightly not as good but eh who gives a shit

View on black for best results. In fact, I think I should make a black border for this...
I got a great comment earlier today about my pictures of Dickon online, saying that my cat demands respect, that he wasn't like "those sweet cats." While the comment is really nice, it's also a little inaccurate. Actually, he just doesn't like the camera, so many of my pictures are of him glaring at it. :D
Ironically, just as I was reading the "not like those sweet cats" comment, Dickon was in the middle of doing this, with his head buried in my armpit and his paw on my throat, purring up a storm. He does this often. :D And I figured it would be a good chance to show the sweeter side of him. :)
I decided to make it a GIMP experiment to get rid of my somewhat distracting and too informative sweatshirt. Much fun was to be had with layers, selecting and deleting, textures, colors, and desaturation. Please let me know what you think!
