A mangled Wrangler is just one of many damaged vehicles that are seen on the Bolivar Peninsula.

-these pin tail duck feathers were broken and mangled when I got them. They are usually long skinny feathers. I dyed some dentalium shells in blueberry juice a while back, and they look perfect with the dark feathers and wire.

Well it was new around 1940, spotted this old Mangle outside a pub recently

My Gran had one in our old back yard, happy days

I found some more old photos (slides, thank goodness) in an attic room that had been invaded by squirrels.

Thankfully squirrels don't actually like film, so most of them were actually scannable (there are a few more that apparently disintegrated when I cleaned them, because the scans ended up looking like they were in a rainstorm :-( )

These must have been taken in the summer of '71 and just starting out as a trainspotter, because the photo quality is about what you'd expect when you give a cheap plastic kodak to an 11 year old and let them wander off to North La Crosse to look at trains.

Alas, no pictures of the Milwaukee Road's rsc-2ms were in the batch. Probably because they were _always there_ and not interesting and new like the S1, SDP40F, and trains in southern Illinois. Ah well, my memories are a little more durable than these slides (at least until I have a power failure, at which point it all will go *poof*)

Viajamos entre laberintos... Unos pasos se abrían mientras el agua bajaba y otros se cerraban cuando el agua subía. Mapas mentales de la naturaleza y recorridos de la cotidianidad que hacen mágicos nuestros pasos.

It just looks so weird. But... it was fun. :)

Got into a car accident.

This is what happened to our license plate.

It was ripped off of the front of our car by the car that hit us. We found it tucked up inside of their driver's side rear wheel well. Glad it was only the license plate [and some of the front bumper] that ended up looking like that!

Rhizophora mangle ( red mangrove ) in Selby Botanical Gardens. I wish they would have experimented with other mangrove species, but I guess it's illegal for them. These are so beautiful.

Remains of an aluminum can I found half-buried in a patch of grass during a recent neighborhood litter pick. [IMG_6249]

hiking in an oasis in the middle of the desert, trying to find the san andreas fault line. we also found a dead lizard in a tree, just hanging there. he had the most insane blue shiny belly though.

These would give the modern housewife the wash-day blues.

Mangled steel and aluminum from the WEPX hoppers and the Shermer Rd bridge are cleared out of the way at Shermer Jct.

Another from todays wonderful Dungeness meet, we found this old iron mangle on the beach, near the life-boat station. How it got there is anyone's guess, but it's a great object to photograph!

I chose this side-on view, as it shows the lovely shape of the spokes of the main wheel, as well as the cogs that used to turn the rollers in opposite directions.

This 1888 house on Oakenwald has been badly disfigured, losing its original cornice and gaining a boxy vinyl protrusion. As recently as 2000, it also had a small enclosed room protruding on the left, bringing the front door closer to the sidewalk.

Spice Garden mangle - dont really know why.

Spotted in Blanchards Auto Salvage

Wilton, New Hampshire

Oxford is a city of bicycles. It's flat, and motor traffic is seriously discouraged, so everyone travels around by bike. I was alarmed to see loads of bikes in this condition, though: tethered to railings, but the wheels mangled. Some of them look as though they've been there a while, although they're modern, newish bikes, and it makes me wonder if some of the students are so rich that they just abandon their bikes when they go home at the end of term, leaving them to rust, chained for eternity to the city's railings. I can well imagine the locals getting fed up with these things and deliberately squashing the wheels as a form of protest.

So what do you do when your neighbor calls and asks you if you want her vintage Ironrite mangle? You grab it and run like the wind! Just what every domestic diva needs!! Pillow cases in 3 seconds flat. Too bad I scorched the cover (and one of my white pillow cases) the first time around.

Who said ironing isn't fun?

(Standing on a chair behind the mangle..)

Happy Bench Monday!!
