An old mangle left outside to rot

An old fashioned mangle by Priest's Ltd of Plymouth, now a street decoration in one of Looe's narrow lanes. My grandmother used one like this and my mother thought her Servis washing machine with incorporated electric mangle was very posh!

Saw this mangled front of a red car on Coventry Street in Digbeth near the Inspector Gadget street art.

I think that there is garage nearby, that does something with damaged cars.

The wooden drainer on this Ewbank mangle is just about to fall away with rot, and the cast iron is snapped at the bottom. It's a hard life.

A previously abandoned section of the Leighton Buzzard Narrow Gauge Railway, between Stonehenge Works and Mundays Hill is being reinstated. The old track was lifted in 2018 and on 30th July 2019 the earth moving contractors commenced work the clear tons of spilt sand and to regrade the track bed.

My lovely Dualit Espressivo leaks and I can't get to the problem because the screw on the brew head won't undo :-( The machine is only 3 months out of warranty & I got an impersonal reply from Dualit - pretty shoddy for a £200 machine that was recommended by Which mag :-/

I found some more old photos (slides, thank goodness) in an attic room that had been invaded by squirrels.

Thankfully squirrels don't actually like film, so most of them were actually scannable (there are a few more that apparently disintegrated when I cleaned them, because the scans ended up looking like they were in a rainstorm :-( )

These must have been taken in the summer of '71 and just starting out as a trainspotter, because the photo quality is about what you'd expect when you give a cheap plastic kodak to an 11 year old and let them wander off to North La Crosse to look at trains.

Alas, no pictures of the Milwaukee Road's rsc-2ms were in the batch. Probably because they were _always there_ and not interesting and new like the S1, SDP40F, and trains in southern Illinois. Ah well, my memories are a little more durable than these slides (at least until I have a power failure, at which point it all will go *poof*)

This mangled wreckage was the aftermath of an Aug. 12 crash in which a West Chester teen, Jordan Day, wrecked his vehicle on purpose and committed suicide. Jordan's Lexus struck a concrete divider then slid into a parked semi truck after traveling speeds estimated above 130 mph, the Ohio State Highway Patrol says. Taken with iPhone 4s, then mangled with various apps.

-these pin tail duck feathers were broken and mangled when I got them. They are usually long skinny feathers. I dyed some dentalium shells in blueberry juice a while back, and they look perfect with the dark feathers and wire.

Well it was new around 1940, spotted this old Mangle outside a pub recently

The Blackthorn tragedy

The USCGC Blackthorn (WLB-391) was outbound from Tampa Bay, having just completed a total refit, as the tanker Capricorn was inbound. Having just been overtaken by a brightly-lit cruise ship, the Blackthorn had manuevered into the center of the channel to allow the passenger ship to pass. As a consequence of the cruise ship's lights, the Blackthorn was unable to get a visual on the approaching Capricorn in the night's darkness. As the two ships approached, the Blackthorn gave two short whistles to signal it's intention to pass to starboard as the Capricorn crowded the center of the channel. At some point, the Blackthorn, helmed by a junior officer, initiated evasive action but it was already too late. The two ships collided nearly head-on, with the anchor of the tanker imbedding itself in the hull plates of the cutter. At least 6 crewman of the Blackthorn were trapped by the mangled metal skin of the ship. As the ships' momentum carried each other along, the anchor line of the tanker grew taut and pulled the Blackthorn over, capsizing the smaller ship and resulting in the drowning deaths of 23 crew trapped on board and belowdecks, approximately 3/4 of a mile from the Sunshine Skyway Bridge.

It just looks so weird. But... it was fun. :)

Got into a car accident.

This is what happened to our license plate.

It was ripped off of the front of our car by the car that hit us. We found it tucked up inside of their driver's side rear wheel well. Glad it was only the license plate [and some of the front bumper] that ended up looking like that!

Rhizophora mangle ( red mangrove ) in Selby Botanical Gardens. I wish they would have experimented with other mangrove species, but I guess it's illegal for them. These are so beautiful.
