I first noticed this pickup truck coming across the cornfields. Not in this photo (I had my long 150-600mm lens on!) is the corn harvester in action.

I spoke with the two men in the truck. They were the farm owner/managers checking up on their harvesting operation.

Those guys, those gentlemen, were very nice. They were true farmers with the sun beaten skin. It was fun to hear their country 'dialect' as they spoke. It was also nice that they took the time to chat while knowing that every minute the clock ticks away at their harvest time with rains (and maybe snow!) around the corner.

Cwmorthin, looking towards Wrysgan

They looked around, confused, trying to find out how they got there. Just a second ago they were in their office, working mechanically in their reports: now, they are in the middle of Shibuya.

Home is where the hideout is! Boy, talk about building green! These high coutry bangaloes may disappear to true green soon enough. The hillside above shouts rocks and Rocky Mountains not to mention autumn. This new series is not a replay of last year with new edits, I can always sneak out more edits of last year's work any time but not now. In later September, eDDie and Olivia grabbed me and zipped up Boulder Canyon eventually to old and new haunts. This series is from this autumn's captures. This haunted series may include more houses, unseen. These are once again at and near the Moffat tunnel through the great divide. The housing will show up again when the leaves are gone but will you be there? More than that, how will I manage even more fall excursions next year?

The employees and Station Agent (another movie title) for the East Portal of the Moffat Tunnel had short walks to work. The D&RGW RR (Dangerous & Rapidly Growing Worse RR) provided housing for him, his family and other crews allowing short walks to work. I have no idea why someone would need to drive this track to their house instead of walking the equivilent of walking a half a block. Otherwise, I can imagine stumbling around in the deep snow after the night shift, especially for that bottle that was stashed on the way to work. I bet that bottle would never freeze, being antifreeze itself! "Pure stategery," according to Boy George and all other Englishly-challenged. Boy, is Trump making Boy George look like an Einstein! I could recognize nothing of Papa George from his recent tributes. Could they find nearly enough hate to go around? Talk about Chief of Staff, he needs Stormy Daniels to sit in on his staff!

Direct transportation was readily available to Tolland, Rollinsville, Denver and the western slope towns for the odd shopping spree. Here is some housing hing in the aspen. Unfortunately the T-Rump fired all the help up here. They were only jobs. That's OK, they can grab three of Trump's wealth of jobs and still fail to make ends meet. The tunnel facade remains as it was built in the twenties.

D&RGW used to operate the tunnel and the big coal mines (before being taken over by the Koch Bros) near Somerset and Paonia on the Western Slope even though it was D&SL RR (Denver & Salt Lake RR) that inspired the tunnel after years of winter snow fighting campaigns over the Hill Division on the Continental Divide. See my recent Rollins Pass series. Coal shipments will be taking a major hit if we want to come even close to global warming commitments. Denverites were always envious of Southern Wyoming and wanted their own transcontinental route to fuel its growth. D & SL RR operated the big standard gauge Mallets over to the Western Slope and ran many trains over the divide. This shack was a curiosity probably built to accompany the tunnel. It sat in a meadow to the north side of the portal and it caught my eye. My walk turned back toward the portal so I figure it was probably used for the crews that operated the portal in the early days before total automation and all the Magic Underwear shipments to Salt Lake blessed by the Holy Ghost. The crew probably would be ill advised to tip a few before heading home, especially at night! I wonder how soggy the meadow got in the past years.

In honour of the International Day of Happiness on 20 March 2017, I asked a selection of people to choose an object that makes them happy. I then photographed and interviewed them about these items.

"One of the things that me and my wife Debbie first bonded over was a shared love of Agatha Christie. We decided to buy them all, and had a list we'd cross off on visits to second hand book shops. The last one, an American edition called 'The Golden Ball and Other Stories', we couldn't find anywhere so resorted to eBay.

We could of course have bought them all on Kindle, but there's nothing like having the objects on a bookshelf. It's also nice that there's a history to second hand books, knowing others have read them. And Penguin covers look lovely.

I'm reading them in chronological order; there are around 90. It's interesting comparing the pre-war stories (people with servants in country houses), to the post-war ones (people can no longer can find the staff as the nouveau rich servants have enough money to buy their own houses).

Since we started buying these, Debbie has had problems with her vision, so she is listening to them as audio books."

On the Penguin Trail City South Library Christchurch January 2021 New Zealand.

Over Term Two and Three in 2020, we had 65 schools from across the city and surrounding towns take part in the Pop Up Penguins Learning Programme. This wasn’t an easy time for students and teachers as Term Two began in the midst of New Zealand’s lockdown period! And yet, with resilience and determination, the schools signed up to take part in this citywide art project.

The Pop Up Penguins Learning Programme has been supported by an amazing line up

of organisations: the International Antarctic Centre, Antarctica New Zealand, the Council of Managers of National Antarctic Programs, Gateway Antarctica and the College of Education, Health and Human Development at the University of Canterbury.

The Learning Partners shared their vast knowledge and expertise within the Learning Programme resource pack and educators from International Antarctic Centre, Gateway Antarctica and the College of Education, Human Development and Health delivered a bespoke Pop Up Penguins themed presentation to over 50 of the schools registered on the Learning Programme.

Students across our city have learned about penguin conservation, Christchurch’s global significance as one of five Gateways to Antarctica and kaitiakitanga, guardianship and protection of the environment. As you find the little penguins in displays around the city, learn about the themes that inspired them.

Fred Kalley built the 450 seat Park Theatre during the beginning of the Second World War and opened on the 17th July 1940. It was located in East White Rock, across the Campbell River Road from Semiahmoo Park, near the intersection of Keil Street and Campbell River Road. The manager was Guy Graham - he sold the the theatre to Mrs. Ethel Stone in 1947. In 1951 the Park Theatre was sold to Jim Petrovich. Although slowly sinking into the unstable flood pain, the Park Theatre struggled on until 1969 when the doors closed forever.

Margie was a box-office hit, ranking in the top 15 highest-grossing films of the year, and established Crain as an important Fox star. Although not a true movie musical (as it uses period recordings, with only one song being partially performed by a character in the film), it is sometimes classified with musicals due to the large number of 1920s-era popular songs incorporated as nostalgic background in the film. The film was the basis for the 1961 television sitcom Margie, featuring Cynthia Pepper. Link to the complete movie - www.youtube.com/watch?v=QP5uej-LsE0

"No Leave, No Love" is a 1946 American musical film directed by Charles Martin and starring Van Johnson, Keenan Wynn and Pat Kirkwood. The story concerns Mike, a Marine and recipient of the Congressional Medal of Honor, who returns with his pal Slinky from fighting in the Pacific during World War II. Mike expects to marry his hometown sweetheart; his mother wants to tell him in person that she has married someone else. Most of the film involves the efforts of Susan, a popular radio personality, to keep him from finding out or going home until his mother makes it to New York from Indiana. Susan and Mike fall in love; misunderstandings ensue. The shenanigans of the implausibly unpleasant and larcenous Slinky fill out the action, and the musical element is provided by several appearances of then-famous performers in nightclubs and on Susan’s radio show. The story is bookended by Mike’s arrival in the waiting room of a maternity ward and the birth of his and Susan’s son. Slinky gets the last word when Rosalind announces that she is pregnant.
