Managed by the Nature Conservancy, this 1,600-acre nature preserve is located in Preston County, West Virginia and Garrett County, Maryland. From the Nature Conservancy site - "A window into ice ages past, Cranesville Swamp is located in a "frost pocket," an area where the surrounding hills capture moisture and cold air that conspire to create a landscape more reminiscent of habitat found much further north in Canada. Given Cranesville Swamp’s lush forest and wetland, it’s not surprising that it is home to an exceptional variety of animals. In total, more than 50 rare plants and animals live at Cranesville." Did not see a ton of birds, mostly they were high up in the trees - along with the squirrels. But I did see a hairy woodpecker and a few butterflies. Still, it was a nice day to be in the preserve on my visit, Thursday August 10th, 2017.

I managed to get all my many chores done today - get photocopies, buy maple syrup (for gifts), go to the naturopath, and get a haircut. I even took an unplanned detour in the middle there to buy a cheap pair of shoes at Payless, because my feet were clearly not ready to be in my usual shoes quite yet. I think they'll be useful for the plane, anyway.

It's not exactly a *new* cut, just pretty much the same one shorter (and more angled towards the front). I think this is the shortest it's been, say, ever? I went to a new place and they did a good job, I think. All my front shots were quite blurry, so I'll try to get one in the morning.

Here's hoping for okay bedhead tomorrow!

Managed to catch the bottle and glass recycling truck as it stopped to empty our bin.

Philip Metzger , Managing a Programming Project, Prentice Hall, 1973; ISBN 0135507561.

"The earliest programming project management text I've been able to find. There are nuggets here, but the perspective is pure Taylorism. Out of 200 pages, he spends only two paragraphs on maintenance."

Tourist trains tell a lot about the state of an amusement park. A well-maintained tourist train naturally implies a well-managed park. On that note I am starting to worry about the condition at Danga Bay. Despite the ever-going saga of projects embracing the park, the trains looked more run-down every time I visited. In company’s accounting, lesser amount of repair and maintenance is not necessary a good thing, as that may imply that the company is buying new assets without at the same time taking care of the existing ones.

For many, riding on the tourist train is a must-do when visiting a park that has one. Unfortunately I didn’t feel the least tempted in my last visit. It’s not to say that I wouldn’t get on it even if you stick a gun to my head, but at least I wouldn’t sneak in for a ride when you are not carrying a gun, like I would for a more attractive one.

Managed to get this shot in Greece just before a brief rain storm hit. Which meant i had to peg it back to the beach house.

Managed to find some time to go and take photos in the city today. It was raining, but I wanted some dark and moody shots so I was quite satisfied with the weather.

I also found the time to write a new post on my blog about an ever-ongoing photographic argument (I'm not going to reveal it here, go to my blog and read the article)

Managed to delete this while posting some new images, so I've put it back.

Managed to get a pre-release Soundwave Deluxe Figure from ROTF Transformers Movie 2009.

Sadly there is a defect on the left thigh of this figure which is placed wrongly. However, I went on to repaint this figure, can't bother much about it. Can't wait to try painting this figure.

This large suburban park is managed by Dun Laoghaire Rathdown Council. The park comprises the original lands of Marlay House, an 18th century mansion once the home of the Governor of the Bank of Ireland. Many of the features of the big house remain – the fine trees, the walled kitchen garden and the courtyard where a craft centre is now located.

Managing to do as little as possible in this current heat, I have spent the last three afternoons attempting to get a shot of the hummingbirds visiting the Bee Balm in the backyard. Well... out of the 100 or so frames shot so far, this is the only one close to being sharp. Anyhow, it has me more determined now to keep trying.

This is a self-portrait - the first ever shot taken with my remote trigger :)

Managed to fix the direction of the fabric thanks to some sensible advice from @allisonsews

I managed to grab a couple of shots whilst I was at the track day today, this is a quick handheld panorama showing a collection of some of the ferrari's that were available for people to take out on the track.

There's only one Lambo in this shot though as they were by far the most popular cars to head onto the track with during the course of the day.

10 shots handheld, stitched using CS5 for a change to see how it fares. Not convinced on its ability to level horizons as well as Hugin, but that's probably more to do with my CS5 skills in fairness.

Managed to get trainspotting the other day, saw a few buses too.

I managed to get a hell of a laceration (usage?) in my hand today at work. Metal roof panels with very sharp edges. The ONE time I didn't wear my gloves. Sigh.

I finally managed to find some time to get out and the weather was being kind. It wasn’t raining for once! I wondered around town but there weren’t many people about today. The school holidays have finished here but the inclement weather isn’t encouraging people to come out for long. I saw a woman with her family and thought she’d make an interesting stranger, but sadly after I’d approached her and explained the project to her she said she didn’t speak French. I tried asking if she spoke English, but she didn’t. I thanked her and moved on.

I was wondering if I’d find anyone, so walked back into the main town square which is when I saw my stranger N°50 lighting up a cigarette outside the café. I asked if she had a few minutes and she looked at her watch. “A few moments.” So I explained the ideas of the project and waited to see if she was up for it. I had to repeat what I’d said as she commented on my accent and wanted to be clear that she’d understood. Once she had the idea she agreed.

Meet Mireille, she 69 years old and has been retired for some time. She worked in Administration before. She has a daughter and one grandson. After I’d taken 3 photos, less than I like but I was thinking of the time for her. We looked at them and she said they were fine other than the 2nd one, which we both agreed didn’t show her at her best.

She then said she would have to go as she had to pick up her grandson from school any second now. So I took my notes while we both walked down towards the school. She was born in Châteaudun but has lived around here for the last 15 years. When she has time she loves gardening most of all and next looking after her grandson.

We chatted about the project for a bit before she really had to go and I wanted to continue my walk while the weather was good enough. I gave her a card so she would be able to look for her photo and we said a polite “bon après-midi” before parting.

Managed to get this single shot off before the sun tucked away behind the trees.

I finally managed to get a day off work today, and took the train to Exeter to meet a friend for lunch...

As I reached the foot of the station stairs, I turned to look back up the way I'd just come, and saw these glossy yellow handrails stretching up towards the light. Humdrum to some, but I liked it - then again, it doesn't take much to amuse me...
