We did make an unfortunate attempt to go see the Nubble Light, one of my favorite Maine lighthouses that I haven't seen in about 25 years. But Nubble Light is next to York Beach and just down the road from Ogunquit, and that's not a place you can just drop by on a pretty summer day. Everything around here is vacation rental with draconian parking controls designed to make life miserable for the tourists streaming in off the Turnpike ... i.e., us. The parking lot was full when we got here, and the nearest place we could have parked was a mile away, so this is as close to Nubble Light as we got. This would turn out to be a theme for this trip, because there are too many people in the world.
What you can't tell about Nubble Light is that though it looks like it's right there on the other side of the parking lot, it's actually on a little island just offshore, separated from the mainland by a channel 115 feet wide. I have memories of there being a wire with a basket people could use to move between the mainland and the island, but it's obviously not here now, and I can't find any evidence on the internet that it ever was, so my brain probably just manufactured that.
You can see some pretty good pictures of the Nubble Light if you do a Flickr search. These are all better than anything I'd have gotten today anyway.
