Politics as Usual, Tremor, or Earthquake? How to Make Sense of the 2014 Midterm Elections
David Peritz, Politics Faculty
The 2014 national midterm elections delivered a resounding victory for the Republican Party at nearly every level of government, but very little clarity about the meaning of this landslide. There was very little by way of a focused national discourse or sustained discussion of salient issues like rising inequality, global climate change, immigration reform, or the many challenges facing American foreign policy. This landslide occurred in a long-term context that in many respects seemed to favor the losing party: demographic shifts in the composition of the electorate, the partisan preferences of the newly politically active millennials, and the alignment between the policy positions of the Democratic Party and the issues identified as most urgent by most Americans. On the other hand, midterm elections, especially in the sixth year of a sitting president, have tended to favor the opposition party throughout most of the 20th century. Is the election we witnessed simply a reflection of typical dynamics of electoral politics? Did unanticipated developments in the immediate build-up to the election, especially the outbreak of Ebola and sudden emergence of ISIS, exacerbate these usual dynamics? Or, is it perhaps the case that in 2014, we began to witness the long-term effects of some underlying structural changes in American politics: changes to do with campaign financing, political geography, and perhaps the transformation of the global economy—changes that may fundamentally alter political dynamics in the 21st century?

I just love these blanket flowers. They bloom for so long and add great color to my garden. They make me smile when ever I look out my kitchen window and see them.

For two hours on a Monday afternoon, the Central Davie gym resembled a workshop. Seated at long tables, teachers were talking and laughing while cutting word strips, sorting and bagging colored squares, and taping the edges of shower board to create small whiteboards.
The teachers were attending one of three “make and take” sessions organized by Davie County Schools to support its elementary school teachers and to provide them with valuable tools to assist with this year’s DavieLEADS focus on guided reading.
Hier soir, j'ai fait mon premier essai de make up...
Soyez indulgents, s'il vous plaît (^^ ) Je sais que je dois le refaire. Et je compte sur vous pour me dire ce qui ne va pas =)

Since Lego released the BTTF set, i've wanted to make an appropriate decor for the DeLorean.

I've also been inspired by many more for different building techniques, but I am unable to credit them all. I've looked at so many pictures that I'm not sure anymore where some of the ideas come from. If you think something looks like one of your ideas, sorry for being unable to credit you, but I am grateful for the inspiration. A big thank you also to all of you who post tutorials on advanced building techniques, these are fabulous source of information.

It seems there is never time to savor a perfect sunset. Sometimes you have to pull to the side of life’s highway and make the time.
