Built from plans in Make Magazine with a couple mods. Made from a sprinkler valve and PVC (and of course duct tape!), compressed air fires the rocket high into the sky. Our rocket is make of the foam cylinders you wrap around hot water pipes (and duct tape!).

Annual golf outing for Make-A-Wish Illinois. This event was held Monday, September 10 at Ivanhoe Club in Mundelein. We welcomed 116 golfers and raised more than $250,000.
I made a series of Milli Maidens for the Make 5 group. Mini vitreous glass tile, stained glass, millefiori, beads, Van Gogh glass, and a clay face I made and painted.
It was a privilege and a pure pleasure to sneak around these ballerinas during their rehearsals, grabbing random scenes with my camera.
Not everything is in focus and it was challenging for me to chase moments with manual focus and available light.

I really am enjoying hand coloring and bringing some of these old black and white images to life.
I am so amazed lately with how many older image collections are unintentionally oppressive. A couple in love collection would be better titled heterosexual white couples in love. So many of the fairy tales I adore - all about little white girls. I had to make this little girl red riding hood from the moment I found her. So I don't know, for me spring is a time to move forward one image at a time . . .

A book worth reading 'How It Happened Here' by Kevin Brownlow, telling the life of the film and how it went into main cinemas.
Make way for hand-crafted cyclekarts racing and parading around Tieton. The races went from 10 - 4 on June 25.
The 24 driving teams come from as far away as New Zealand to participate in the annual event. The cars must be handmade using Honda GX200 engines and draw clear design inspiration from the open wheel race cars from the early 1900s. Participants work on their cars all year, excitedly awaiting the largest gathering of cyclekarts in the world. No two cars are alike, with designs often taking on the personality of its builder. Each one is about 8’ long, weighing between 250 to 300 pounds, with steel chassis and wood or aluminum bodies.

A number of these scenery-only puzzles have accumulated in the stack and I decided it was time to tackle one of them.
With no man-made objects, aside from an empty road behind the two trees on the right, there are no major structures to focus on - everything is sky, water, foliage, or rock.
The initial sift through the pieces sorted them roughly into groups for sky and water, rock, trees and greenery, plus the edge pieces.
The edge pieces were put together first to create the frame, and then immediately split into the four edges, as this was a puzzle I was going to build from the top down.
Starting with the far horizon, I put together the sky and background hills. Following on from that was the near horizon having sifted out the near-black pieces and the orange coloured pieces from the rocks collection. Filling in most of the gaps left the upper third near complete.
Next I switched tactics and put together the water and reed bed in the lower left portion of the picture. This completed the lower quarter of the puzzle, with the notable exception of the lower right corner.
From the remaining pieces, it wasn't too hard to pick out those pieces with tree trunks and major branches plus the few pieces that show the road, possibly the only straight line in the picture.
At this point I decided to assemble the completed portions of the puzzle and see what I had. Essentially the top was complete, the left-most two thirds of the bottom third with a number of columns of pieces extending upwards towards the top.
And then there was the minor task of putting together 300+ pieces largely of foliage. When staring at the pieces, a particular colour or shade seems to stand out and all you can do is gather all of those pieces and try to fit them together, with or without assistance from the pieces already placed in the puzzle.
This was helped to some extent by the fact that, unlike most of the Arrow puzzles that have passed through my hands, this one didn't feel like it had been put together and taken apart numerous times. The pieces fit together well and when correctly located you could be confident that they were in the right place.
Still, seeing as around 100 of the pieces are little more than green or yellow-brown smudges there was an element of trying each piece in each slot until they seemed to locate correctly.
The most difficult Arrow puzzle I have put together, so far. Pleased that I only have (nominal) 1000 piece scenery-only puzzles, at the moment.
Jeremy Dubow is a California-born artist who's formal training includes studies at the Florence Academy of Art in Florence Italy. He currently has a solo exhibit of his 11 x 14 oil on mylar paintings titled, Jeremy Dubow: Portraits at Hiromi Ogawa Architects Portland, OR location which will be open through July by appointment. The exhibit consists of 27 portraits each numbered according to the chronological order in which they were painted. Three of these paintings were selected and produced into Scout Books by Beadle Design. Kristin Beadle was so kind as to send us some great photos from the exhibit opening night reception and some great closeups of the Scout Books as well.
