The Icelandic horse is a breed of horse developed in Iceland. Although small and often pony-sized, they are considered horses by most Icelandic breed registries. The breed develops late, but is long-lived and hardy. The breed was developed from ponies brought to Iceland by Viking settlers in the 9th and 10th centuries. Horses were worshipped in Norse mythology, and these beliefs were brought to Iceland by the original settlers. The Icelandic breed is mentioned in both literature and historical records throughout Icelandic history, from the 9th century on, with the first historical reference to an individual horse appearing in the 12th century. Selective breeding has been used over the centuries to develop the breed into its current form. Natural selection has also played a role, with the harsh Icelandic climate killing many horses through cold and starvation. In the late 18th century, much of the breed was wiped out in the aftermath of a volcanic eruption. They are still used for traditional farm work in Iceland, as well as for leisure, showing and racing.
It is difficult to say which is my favorite shot from my trip to Iceland, however series of these shots of Icelandic horses in the mist must be one of the most mystical photoshoot ever. I remember that we drove back to Reykjavik from already amazing time at Seljalandsfoss Waterfall (where I got rather wet from the ever present spray of water). As it was nearly sunset time I was getting more and more restless about the right location for the setting sun. As we drove along the road we noticed group of horses on the field with the mist that was slowly picking up. Icelandic horses were on top of the list of shots I wanted to leave that amazing country with. I managed to get some photos with reasonably good light and background before this moment, however I could have never imagined situation like this. Some shots can be carefully planned and executed, some will never repeat itself, this is definitely one of those. Part of that amazing experience was also the chance to watch how the whole scene “grew on us”. If I was there with a person that is not into photography, I would have taken one or two shots and got back to car. The freedom to explore the whole scene and situation with someone that has the same interest (obsession) gave me opportunity to emerge into the moment and capture better and better photos (completely forgetting that I’m taking photos across sharply wired fence in rather high and very wet grass).

Iceland Waterfalls are perhaps the country's most recognizable series of attractions. They're everywhere! Its collection of waterfalls rivals any other country in sheer power and raw beauty. The falls range from powerful and wide river-type monsters like Dettifoss, Gullfoss, and Goðafoss to tall and narrow ones like Glymur, Háifoss, and Hengifoss. Moreover, the country sports classic waterfalls such as the rectangular Skógafoss as well as unique waterfalls such as the trapezoidal Dynjandi. And these are just the famous ones! There are countless other waterfalls tumbling by the Ring Road as well as many more that don't even have formal names!
The waterfall Skógafoss is situated in the south of Iceland at the cliffs of the former coastline. After the coastline had receded seaward (it is now at a distance of about 5 km from Skógar), the former sea cliffs remained, parallel to the coast over hundreds of kilometers, creating together with some mountains a clear border between the coastal lowlands and the Highlands of Iceland. The Skógafoss is one of the biggest and most beautiful waterfalls of the country with a width of 25 meters and a drop of 60 meters. Due to the amount of spray the waterfall consistently produces, a single or double rainbow is normally visible on sunny days. According to legend, the first Viking settler in the area, Þrasi Þórólfsson, buried a treasure in a cave behind the waterfall. A local boy found the chest years later, but was only able to grasp the ring on the side of the chest before it disappeared again.
I have captured this place during my previous visit to Iceland but I surely could not miss it during the last trip. This time I got the bonus rainbow and a lovely couple standing at perfect place to give the whole scene a scale.

Hanukkah commemorates a historical event that took place in Jerusalem in the 2nd century BCE, when the Seleucid Greek empire was the ruling power.
Depict a beautiful window, it is already dark outside, on the windowsill stands a menorah with 9 candles, one of them is positioned higher than the others, as well as a tray with various donuts. The light of the Menorah is reflected in the window. The menorah is in a classic style, silver with gilding. Cozy atmosphere, colors acquire warm tones in the style of Alex Katz.

Oh, I just got word from a flickr user, of someone using one of my photos on Deviant Art, claiming to be their own.
I'm usually ok with people using my photos on blogs, if they link back to me. It's always more exposure to my work, BUT the person even wrote:
"It was hard to get it right actually
...originally, this was just me playing with the pearls
and the photographer was like "Stay still!" and snapped a pic"
C'mon, seriously? That's SO silly!! What is wrong in these people's heads to think it's ok to pretend to be someone else?
If she's a girl and want sexy pictures of hers, she should just hire a photographer to take such photos, even if she doesn't have a gorgeous body like that of Haline's, a good photographer will make her look pretty and she'll feel confident about herself.
Now, stealing people's work to fool other people, that's just despicable.
If you have a deviant art account, I would really appreciate if you could take a little of your time to report this person...

Europe - UK - Scotland - Western Isles of Scotland - Outer Hebrides - Isle Harris - Stunning white beaches of the north of the island captured during dramatic weather
Today is the a big day for Scotland and its possible independence. It is one of my top favorite countries where I always love to return. I'm not really sure that independence would be the right choice from economical/political point of view but I can understand the motion. I'm curious how it will end and I wish this wonderful country the best possible outcome, what ever it might be !

Have been on a hike on the southwest slope of the lava fields of Teide. Was fascinated about the canary pines there growing on the lava fields. So, I was pretty convinced there must be photographic scenes but had not the time for a really good scouting. Finally, the sunset was amazing and while right behind me the sky was glowing insane, I decided to keep on working on this composition. Thanks to my dad, which dropped me off on the trailhead and picked me up long after sunset.

Europe - UK - England - East Sussex - Seven Sisters Country Park - Birling Gap - Seven Sisters Chalk Cliffs - Wild forces of the sea created unusual chalk platforms and huge heaps of gleaming white chalk cliffs
The Seven Sisters are a series of chalk cliffs by the English Channel. They form part of the South Downs in East Sussex, between the towns of Seaford and Eastbourne in southern England. They are within the Seven Sisters Country Park. They are the remnants of dry valleys in the chalk South Downs, which are gradually being eroded by the sea.

The little village of Elgol is one of the most photographed parts of the Isle of Skye. Elgol is an increasingly popular destination for climbers and hill walkers of all levels due to its unparalleled access to the famous Cuillin Hills and the various smaller hills dotted around wherever you look. Elgol is a crofting and fishing village in the Strath area of the Island. The small, sparsely populated village is scattered along the final mile of the road from Broadford.
Though you may never have heard of the little fishing and crofting village of Elgol in the Scottish Highlands, there is a good chance that you have seen photos of Elgol's famous mountain and seascape scenery in postcards, Scottish books and even film scenes and television programmes. From the larger Skye village of Broadford many visitors have turned down the enchanting Elgol road completely unaware of the magnificent scenes that await them around almost every corner. The 15 mile journey over twisty single-track roads will take you past High Pastures Cave, one of the most significant archaeological finds in the area, then sweep you around the corner to the ancient, historical site of Kilchrist church
Every mile you drive on your journey from Broadford to Elgol will fool you into thinking that the scenery simply cannot be bettered. However, you will be proved wrong when you arrive in Elgol and reach the shore and the little fishing harbour. There is simply nothing on earth to compare to the site of the Cuillin Hills beyond the Elgol shore - a breathtaking view whether it is sunny or stormy.
There are various opinions as to the meaning of the name, 'Elgol' (or Ealaghol in the native Gaelic, some suggesting 'The Noble Dale' and others 'The Weeping Swan' (folklore details the story of a Viking captain who perished when his longboat named 'The Swan' came to attack the people of Elgol).

Middle East - GCC - Qatar - Bir Zekreet Desert Landscape - Spectacular rocky limestone cliffs & formations such as desert mushroom during Full Moon night
Qatar might not be blessed with the most dramatic and spectacular landscape (besides those enormous natural resources that made Qatar one of the richest countries in the world.) therefore finding something unique is not so easy. The European beech (Fagus sylvatica) is the most commonly cultivated, although there are few important differences between species aside from detail elements such as leaf shape. The leaves of beech trees are entire or sparsely toothed, from 5–15 cm long and 4–10 cm broad. Beeches are monoecious, bearing both male and female flowers on the same plant. The small flowers are unisexual, the female flowers borne in pairs, the male flowers wind-pollinating catkins. They are produced in spring shortly after the new leaves appear. The bark is smooth and light grey. The fruit is a small, sharply three–angled nut 10–15 mm long, borne singly or in pairs in soft-spined husks 1.5–2.5 cm long, known as cupules. The husk can have a variety of spine- to scale-like appendages, the character of which is, in addition to leaf shape, one of the primary ways beeches are differentiated. The nuts are edible, though bitter (though not nearly as bitter as acorns) with a high tannin content, and are called beechnuts or beechmast.

Kleopatra/ Damlatas beach is situated on the western side of the peninsula which splits Alanya into two. The beach is said to be Alanya’s best. It is legendary for its long, fine sandy shores and many coves and inlets that are popular with boat trippers. The sand is finer and there are not many rocks or stones but the water does deepen more quickly than at the eastern beach. When Queen Kleopatra of Egypt was given the area around Alanya as a present from the Roman general Antony, she bathed at the foot of the cliff every day. Originally there was a tunnel, leading from the castle directly to her private beach, through which she was carried whenever she wanted to swim. The 3.5 kilometre long beach is also known as Damlatas beach because of the Damlatas dripstone cave on the western side of the peninsula discovered in 1948. Today the cave is one of Alanya’s many tourist attractions.

We all have those special places we always wanted to visit, Callanish Stone Circle was definitely on top of my list of such places. As you can guess, no visit to Scotland comes for free and weather can be at its most playfull.... as it was for last 3 days - near gale wind and constant drizzle, which is so famous for these islands but nothing should stop very devoted photographer from capturing what he/she had in mind... and therefore the gale and drizzle didnt stop us from taking photos at this unique location - that is also explanation for the EXIF data... I would have much rather used ISO 100, f11 and 30 sec but than the lens would get way too many drops... and I might have been blown away with the camera and tripod ;)... still despite those conditions I'm really pleased with the result ;)

Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon is the largest glacier lagoon or lake in Iceland. Situated in south eastern Iceland, at the head of the Breiðamerkurjökull glacier branching from the Vatnajökull, between Skaftafell National Park and Höfn, it evolved into a lagoon after the glacier started receding from the edge of the Atlantic Ocean. The lake has grown since then at varying rates because of melting of the Icelandic glaciers.
When I got to Iceland I realized that we might have a full moon... and as it has become my tradition I want to make use of it in my photography. Being on the ice beach of Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon is very special on its own... but with added Full Moon... it is the perfect combination I have not seen on any photos yet ! The night was not completely clear, but luckily clouds were not too strong and let the Moon shine through.

-1 foot tide. Hmmm, where to go with a -1 foot tide? I thought perhaps the rocks in front of the bluff at Hole in the Wall / Panther Beach might be interesting with water this low. Having never been down to see them before, I was struck by how much the rocks on the right reminded me of the rocks I've seen in photos from Adraga Beach in Portugal.
I found a comp that included them and waited for a wave to come up. This was only one of two waves the entire evening that came this high. Luckily it did so during the peak light. My sincere condolences to everyone who missed out on shooting this evening, as it was quite an inspiring sunset.
