The town of Al Wakrah (also known as Al Waqra and Al Waqrah) is located in between Umm Said and Doha. Though, originally a tiny pearling and fishing village, Al Wakra evolved itself into a small town with a population of not more than 30,000. The town has an Al Wakra museum in one of it’s old forts, that displays marine life and the history of the area. The town also has good art and architecture displays. Fishing and former pearl centre Al Wakra which is just ten minutes from Doha.
My morning shoot was planned for Al Wakra where I previously discovered a beach full of traditional dhows (boats) in front of newly built traditional fishing village, which construction is currently going on. Qatar is one of those states that tries to bring some of its traditional past back into life. Souq Waqil in Doha is a great example of it. Once this traditional fishing village is finished it will be beautiful place to wonder around. You can already find many traditional Dhows (boats) "parked" on the beach in front of the village. This photo captures one of those boats taken shortly after sunrise, not very typical for Middle East as it was rather cloudy and gave it very cold feeling.

Middle East - Iran - Isfahan Province - Abyaneh - Abianeh - One of the oldest villages in Iran with ancient houses built from peculiar reddish hue mud
Photo of Karkas mountains taken from hill next to Abyaneh village. Karkas mountain chain or Karkas (Persian رشته كوه كركس Reshteh kuh-e Karkas) is located in Central Iran. It ranges from Kashan to Ardestan over more than 100 km and is mainly composed of igneous (plutonic and volcanic), pyroclastic and somewhat sedimentary Tertiary rocks. In the central part, this mountain chain consists of a Precambrian-Paleozoic basement. The highest peak of the Karkas Mountains is 3895m which is close to Natanz.

Khongor Sand Dunes are the largest and most spectacular sand dunes in Mongolia. Also known as the ‘singing dunes’, they are up to 800 m high, 20 km wide and about 100 km long. Top of the dunes can be climbed and the views of the desert from the top are indescribable.
I was wondering around and enjoying the majestic views of dunes when my eyes spotted this beautiful play of shadow and light. It is slightly different desert photo than we are used to but I am very happy with the artistic results it creates, even I've originally went there for very typical sunrise desert photos.

It is being said that a picture is worth a thousand words and it is very true statement, however what if you put thousands of pictures together ? Here are two videos that I put together from several weeks in Iceland, those sleepless nights spent in freezing temperatures in unique Icelandic landscape were surely worth it.
Timelapse movies had become my new way of capturing my travels besides regular photography.
Check out these Icelandic timelapse videos :
► NORTHERN LIGHTS OVER JÖKULSÁRLÓN - THE GLACIER LAGOON, ICELAND
or
► NORTHERN LIGHTS - AURORA BOREALIS OVER WESTERN ICELAND
I had the incredible luck to experience once in a life time Northern lights show created by huge Solar storm which brought unseen colors ranging from the usual green, yellow to red, purple or even blue, to the sky all over Nordic countries and even all the way to the south of UK. Add several other lucky nights with smaller or large Aurora Borealis appearance in unique landscape of Iceland and the result is relatively lot of footage for my first ever time-lapse video.
Europe - Iceland - South Iceland - Vík í Mýrdal during Northern lights, also known as Aurora Borealis produced by solar wind particles guided by Earth's field lines to the top of the atmosphere

Hvítserkur is the last remains of a central volcano, it is an injection of magma directly to the sea about 15m high. Legend states that this is a troll turned into stone when he was surprised by the sun while attacking a nearby abbey with rocks.
The sea erosion has carved holes through its foundations and sculptured it in the unique shape it is today. Some say it is in the shape of a petrified monster.
It was the sunrise time at 3 a.m., after shooting the horses under the Midnight Sun, I decided to take a photograph of Hvítserkur just when the sun was behind the rock, so I could watch some light crossing it through its holes...a long exposure would give a nice mood to the image.
Hvítserkur, Vatnsnes, Iceland. 2010.
---------------------------------------------------------------------

This photo was taken in Beyal Camp which is a wonderful place surrounded with beautiful thick Pine forest, spellbinding views of Raikot Glacier and Nanga Parbat.
The mountain in the picture is Nanga parbat (also known as Nangaparbat Peak or Diamir) is the 9th highest mountain on Earth and the 2nd highest in Pakistan. Nanga Parbat has tremendous vertical relief over local terrain in all directions. To the south, Nanga Parbat boasts what is often referred to as the highest mountain face in the world: the Rupal Face rises an incredible 4,600 m (15,000 feet) above its base. To the north, the complex, somewhat more gently sloped Rakhiot Flank rises 7,000 m (22,966 feet) from the Indus River valley to the summit in just 27 km, one of the 10 greatest elevation gains in so short a distance on Earth. Nanga Parbat is the fastest growing mountain on Earth and it is still growing about 7mm a year (but dont ask me how they measure it!)
No digital manipulation was done here. The moon is where it really was.

At the fourth attempt I got the conditions I wanted at this little woodland scene. The last glow from the sun hitting the snowcapped trees, and a soft layer of mist/clouds reflecting the sunlight down on the foreground, giving it some life. Tried to preserve as much of the softness to the scene as possible while working with the contrast in post!

Europe - UK - United Kingdom - England - North West England - Cumbria - Lakes - Lake District National Park - Crummock Water - Lake situated between Buttermere & Loweswater
The Lake District, also known as The Lakes or Lakeland, is a rural area in North West England. A popular holiday destination, it is famous for its lakes and its mountains (or fells), and its associations with the early 19th century poetry and writings of William Wordsworth and the Lake Poets.
Lake District is by far my favorite destination in England. It is very magical place that has such a great potential for landscape photography. However as it is always with landscape photography, you need to be lucky for the weather (especially in UK) and the light. When these two are right Lake District offers great possibilities.

I was hoping for a nice sunrise with some fog below and it looked like this would work our during blue hour. but a few minutes before the sun peeked above the rocks the scenery literally drowned in the fog rising from the valleys below.
Not quite what I hoped for but this makes up for a nice mood anyway. After all this is autumn already.

Tyre is a beautiful town on the shore of the Mediterranean Sea. It is located at the meeting point of three continents and, as such, has been the crossroads of many civilizations whose traces may still be seen today. Tyre was a major Phoenician seaport from about 2000 BC onwards through the Roman period.

Qatar is a small (11,000 sqkm) but indubitably important Persian Gulf nation; aside from oil, more natural gas reserves are found here than anywhere except Iran and Russia. It is nearly totally surrounded by the turquoise waters of the Arabian Gulf. The country is flat with some rocky outcrops up to 130 feet (40 m) high, with the desert landscape ranging from rocky shrub-land to beautiful sand dunes, and some bleak salt flats in the centre of the country.
On my way from Nepal I've decided to have half a day stop over there too. Rented a car and went directly to desert to be rewarded with some stunning desert shots which I didn’t hope for. This one was taken just before sunset. The wind was blowing strong and dust was flying in the wind with wonderful evening light. I particularly love this shot for its timeless feel.

Watching the sun rise or set over the sand dunes of Merzouga may be the most spectacular experience you have on your trip to Morocco. The Erg Chebbi, the name of these sand dunes, is said to have some of the highest dunes in Morocco. Indeed, the dunes and the desert wildlife are impressive.
The dunes of Erg Chebbi is a strikingly strange natural formation. On the top of the flattest area you could imagine, suddenly a long mountain of sand rises. This mountain is surrounded by flat and desolate nature on all sides, and you could end up wondering if it really is real. But so it is, even if its existence is so weird that it has given rise to lengeds and myths among the locals. One legend tells us that the dunes of Erg Chebbi were created by God as a punishment to the locals of nearby Merzouga after they refused to give shelter to a woman and her child during a local festival. A sandstorm came, and buried the village of Merzouga is it was then.

... I need to enjoy that magic sunrise!
Our second night in the Backcountry of Glacier National Park was extremely wet (the thunderstorms of that night actually caused the Sprague Fire, shutting down the park for a week and some regions for the rest of the summer). When we first peeked our heads out of our tent we couldn't even see the tops of the trees but (as often) as soon as the sun came around the fog slowly disappeared. So I paused my morning coffee ceremony and was just standing at the shore of Bowman Lake and watching the sun rise behind the continental divide. A magical morning!

Iceland Waterfalls are perhaps the country's most recognizable series of attractions. They're everywhere! Its collection of waterfalls rivals any other country in sheer power and raw beauty. The falls range from powerful and wide river-type monsters like Dettifoss, Gullfoss, and Goðafoss to tall and narrow ones like Glymur, Háifoss, and Hengifoss. Moreover, the country sports classic waterfalls such as the rectangular Skógafoss as well as unique waterfalls such as the trapezoidal Dynjandi. And these are just the famous ones! There are countless other waterfalls tumbling by the Ring Road as well as many more that don't even have formal names!
Gullfoss may be Iceland's most popular waterfall. This spectacular two-tiered waterfall (with each tier dropping at right angles to each other) falls a total of 32m while spanning the entire width of the Hvítá River. The upper tier drops about 11m while the lower tier drops 21m. Mist wafts up from the lower tier due to the quantity of falling water. It's one of the three major attractions on the Golden Circle Tour and Route, which is very doable as a day trip out of Reykjavík. It's hard to believe that this waterfall almost disappeared due to the desire for hydroelectricity by various interests. In some fortuitous bit of misfortune (if you're the investor) and lack of funds, attempts were unsuccessful and the falls was eventually sold to the state of Iceland. Despite further interest to utilize the river by the state, it was eventually conserved. A more romantic story depicted the daughter (named Sigríður Tómasdottir) of the landowner who was about to sell his land (including the falls) threatened to throw herself into the falls if the land was sold. As a result, the father pulled out of the deal and the falls was made a reserve and the rest was history. It's said that this isn't true, but nonetheless there is a memorial at the falls commemorating Sigríður Tómasdottir.
This is less usual view of the waterfall that I've taken on top "viewing platform". Use of my B+W 3.0ND filter allowed me 32sec during daylight. It turned the waterfall in river of silk, milk like flow. The late afternoon light and interesting sky just finished it nicely.

The use of lavender has been recorded for more than 2,500 years. Egyptians, Phoenicians and the people of Arabia used lavender as a perfume -- and also for mummification, by wrapping the dead in lavender-dipped shrouds. In ancient Greece, lavender was called "nardus," "nard," or "spikenard" (named for the Syrian city of Naarda) and was used as a cure for everything from insomnia and aching backs to insanity. By Roman times, lavender had already become a prized commodity. Lavender flowers were sold to ancient Romans for 100 denarii per pound -- equivalent to a full month's wage for a farm laborer -- and were used to scent the water in Roman baths. In fact, the baths served as the root of the plant's current name. "Lavender" is derived from the Latin lavare, meaning, "to wash." Romans also used lavender as a perfume, insect repellent and flavoring. They even added dried lavender to their smoking mixtures.
Few plants are burdened with as much folklore and legend as lavender. Some of the stories are contradictory, or at least historically out of sync. One legend says the plant gained its perfume when the Virgin Mary dried the clothes of the baby Jesus on a bush, which from then on was aromatic. However, even before that, Cleopatra was said to use the scent to seduce Julius Caesar and Mark Antony. Another favorite piece of folklore is that if lavender flowers are placed between bed sheets, spouses will never quarrel.

Glen Etive (Scottish Gaelic: Gleann Eite) is a glen in the Highlands of Scotland. The River Etive rises on the peaks surrounding Rannoch Moor, with several tributary streams coming together at the Kings House Hotel, an old inn on the A82 road at the head of Glen Coe. From the Kings House, the Etive flows for about 18 km, reaching the sea at the sea loch of Loch Etive. This river and its tributaries are hugely popular with whitewater kayakers and at high water levels it is a testpiece of the area and a classic run. At the north end of Glen Etive lie the two mountains known as the shepherds of Etive: Buachaille Etive Mòr and Buachaille Etive Beag. Other peaks accessible from the Glen include Ben Starav, located near the head of Loch Etive, and Beinn Fhionnlaidh on the northern side of the glen. A narrow road from the Kings House Hotel runs down the glen, serving several houses and farms. This road ends at the head of the loch, though rough tracks continue along both shores.
Same place but very different time of a day than this (currently my most interesting shot according to Flickr) www.flickr.com/photos/-lucie-/2820749004/ with deep colors that are created by late evening sun. It is quite incredible how same place can look so different. Photo taken in full color more.
Btw, I've just got to know the great news - this shot was shortlisted in Landscape Photographer of the Year 2009 (together with this one www.flickr.com/photos/-lucie-/3725688585/ ) Keep the fingers crossed for me !!
