Magic Island was a restaurant in Houston, Texas that featured a magic show and dinner at a high price. It closed after Hurricane Katrina and has never reopened since. Locked up pretty well, it has suffered ok against time, looters, and the elements. It has some holes in the roof, there has been a fire, and it has no electricity. With the permission of the people in charge of the property I was allowed to go through and photograph it before it is lost for all time. Most of these photos are either close up with a flash or I painted with my flashlight while the camera was on a tripod. There are disco balls, sarcophagi, a theater and a steam punk elevator. I had never been there before and it was interesting to go from room to room and have no idea what I would see next.

Last light of the day.

On route to Peel Is with very calm conditions.

...plus bokeh-magic of city lights...

This is the same sunset as on the previous photograph, I captured on the way to the Queen's Park. Actually I took a few shots from this point, some with lovely bokeh, so I couldn't resist to combine two of my favorite shots into one image :-)

This Magic Carpet Monday I have a shot using some of the new techniques the people here on flickr have taught me. Thanks to all of you who offered tips, and tricks as to how to get some better shots from the show :)

Our Floating University

The MV Explorer is a modern and safe passenger ship that circumnavigates the globe twice a year and explores a world region each summer. Complete with a student union, wireless Internet, 9,000-volume library, and many of the amenities you’d find on a land-based campus, the ship functions as both a traveling university and residential home to more than 2,000 participants each year.

I think that's what he's signaling. Any magician Jay Sankey's features constantly change with clownish delight (if that's the term I want). He's a great model, a fantastic magician and a great teacher of magic techniques.
