On Explore!!

Any member of more than 3,000 beetle species that resemble a turtle because of the forward and sideways extensions of the body. Tortoise beetles range between 5 and 12 mm (less than 0.5 inch) in length, and the larvae are spiny. Both adults and larvae of some species are destructive to garden plants and sweet potatoes.

Und ja, sie war und ist immer nocht tot ;-)

Best single bloom shot of this tiny wildflower! It was about half dime sized. I love those polka dots! When I got down on my knees, I was overwhelmed by all the details. Thanks for viewing! =o) ***All rights to my images are reserved. Please contact me if you interested in purchasing my images or if you are and educator or non-profit interested in use.***

Megacerus discoidus bug in a local morning glory. Not sure about the other bug, but possibly a larval stage of the main subject. They come out every year with the white morning glories. A small glimpse of the "smiley face" butt may be seen in this shot. See www.flickr.com/photos/gab57/1076300992/in/album-965854/. The antennae look like reindeer antlers from the top. Happy Valentine's Day, everyone!!

I got so close with this macro that the DOF was about 1/32 of an inch. The eyes of this 1/4 inch insect came out relatively clear, but not much else.

Explore, October, 4, 2008, # 431. African daisies (Osteospermum) in the neighborhood. I walked by just after the automatic sprinklers went off.

Water lily (family Nymphaeaceae), any of 58 species in 6 genera of freshwater plants native to the temperate and tropical parts of the world. Most species of water lilies have rounded, variously notched, waxy-coated leaves on long stalks that contain many air spaces and float in quiet freshwater habitats.

I'M sorry, this is as close as i'm going to get. I hope you can see the " fiddle " plainly. The Brown Recluse is one of two poisonous spiders in North America.

4mm big.

This is close to 100% crop. The large size will reveal some degradation in image integrity. However, considering the extreme crop, the Nikon 20mm AF-D (wonderful lens when also used in the normal manner!) delivers, and can resolve tiny details with surprising clarity even at lower magnifications.

The 20mm lens allows me to get roughly the same magnification factors (using less extension) as the 28mm. Extended to 77mm, magnification comes close to 8x if my calculations are correct. But that's a difficult setup: dark viewfinder and amplified camera shake! This deepens my admiration for those who can take tack sharp images at 10:1, handheld.

Update, 01/27/2009: ID-ed as a female Metaphidippus, possible chera sp. Thanks to Mr. Jay Barnes.

Some people live their dreams

Some people close their eyes

Some peoples destiny

Passes by

There are no guarantees

There are no alibis

Thats how our love must be

Dont ask why

It takes some time

God knows how long

I know that I can forget you

As soon as my heart stops breakin

Anticipating

As soon as forever is through

Ill be over you

Remembering times gone by

Promises we once made

What are the reasons why

Nothing stays the same

There were the nights holding you close

Someday Ill try to forget them

Someday Ill be over you

True predation... Adults of both sexes frequently drink flower nectar, but they stock their nests with spiders, which serve as food for their offspring. Mud daubers cram as many as two dozen small spiders into a nest cell.

... I thank you all!!!

Today, my photo made it to explore/interestingness.. making it my 100th. And it's all because of you, my dear friends!!

When I first joined Flickr 6 months ago.. I never knew about explore or why is it important to be seen on it.. I was just enjoying posting my photos and getting comments and advices from those who appreciates them... and that's still what I feel even now.

Well of course, it still gives a kind of high and fulfillment every time I see one of mine on explore.. but it's just a little perk that we get once in a while.. the true joy that I feel comes from you all.. knowing that you were moved.. elated.. touched.. or somehow inspired by one of my creations.. that is what is more important to me... 'cause with that, I won't need to be in explore to know that my work is appreciated..

So please allow me to offer you this lovely flower, as sign of my unending gratitude to all of you!.. my dear friends!!!

On Explore!....Again, THANK YOU!!!

This time, the season has really started. 5 species seen and shot yesterday !

This Calopteryx Virgo was very friendly.

Have a nice weekend, my Flickr friends.
