Sexy Anemone Shrimp -

An exotic mantis was swaying her abdomen left and right, getting me really excited. As quiet as a mouse I tip-toed behind but was still discovered within two minutes. “Hey! You’re that notorious nosey parker in the neighborhood prying our private lives, aren’t you?” the mantis asked. “Ahem, I er…..um," I tried to stammer a few words. The haughty imp continued to taunt and put me to the ultimate test: ”Love me, kiss my butt. Come on, prove it!” Caught off guard I retorted, “Alright, you win but promise me you won’t belch at the crucial moment.” To demonstrate I’m a true bug lover, I closed my eyes and inched forward slowly with pursed lips.

See this article: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scarlet_lily_beetle

According to this article it has wiped out whole species of native Canadian lilies. Had I known, I would have put a stop to the new generation being propagated by this pair.

Golden orb spider from the northern territory (she's missing a leg and her body is about 2 inch in length), Australia, with the sun behind it.

Probably more drawn to the gardens that surround the koi pond at Smith's Botanic Gardens than to the pond itself, Japanese Beetles have, never the less, become part of the pond's cycle. They are destructive pests here in the Northeast, but their copper and green suits of armor are gorgeous in their precision and iridescence.

Found this little guy floating in the pool. I scooped it out and thought it was dead. Then it started moving and climbing up the pool fence. This constituted a “photographic emergency”! Lol. Grabbed my camera with the macro lens and a flash. Since the evening had cooled down, the beetle wasn’t going anywhere. It’s cool to find a little bit of nature in the city.

A Bridge Of Safety Pins -

In the second shot, the leaf is curved and attached perpendicularly onto another leaf. Forming a chain and pulling the edge with all their might, the two foliage will be glued together with white opaque silk. Roundish black eyes and beak-like mandibles, they looked so much like birds. Dusk is approaching, they are getting increasingly difficult to see. Farewell little ones, I’m returning home and may you built your nest well. The weavers can deliver bites so sharp that you'll yell in pain, they are definitely not to be trifled with. Fearsome and revered at the same time, but held in high esteem by me. I love them for their steadfast loyalty, for they protect and defend their home with their lives.

Long-Standing Grievance Of An Arachnid (Close Up) –

“Hey, I’m the most handsome spider here around this vicinity; stop gawking as though I’m some kind of a freak. What’s so interesting to see? Ignorant country urban bumpkins, coming by hordes every week and disrupting my peace. In the forest there are monstrous things humans never met and you better watch where you go. There’s one with green rotary balls above his head and another with formic acid spurting from both horns; they are the real fiends that will scare the daylights out of you. Sickening fellow before you, keeps flashing at me unbashfully. I’m not turned on by his bright lights, only a female of the same species will make me hot. The next one to set fire and blind my eyes, I’ll be nasty and piss right into his eyes”

Sculpted At Birth, Unique Swirls And Whirls -

While I’m please with my big catch today, I often brood over the harsh realities of life. Will I continue today as a predator of small things and fall tonight as prey for Hercules? The other day my group was marching to new grounds and we passed a man enjoying his sandwich on the grass. He sprung up suddenly, scratching his crotch as if ants were in his pants. The man was mad and thrashed wildly at the real culprits. Right away we knew we had to evade but too late, I felt a heavy crush on me. Luckily my siblings pulled me to safety and we hid behind the bush. After he left, I examined my injury and realized that guy was a thumbprint expressionist. He can't deny the evidence on me because nobody on earth has the same prints.

Deadly Dark Side (Front View) -

“Sweetheart, would you sit still a moment? Caterpillars are always fault finding and such picky eaters they bring me a lot of trouble; spiders are cherubs in comparison. Smile for me dear while I take your picture, I'm showing the world how adaptable you are and so easy to please. You have no qualms about feasting your own kind when silver fish don’t stray in, but watch it, too much spiders will make you paunchy.

A macro close-up of a Rove beetle (Paederus), commonly known as the “Nairobi Fly” or “Staphylinid beetle.” Its slender body, metallic green elytra, and vivid red-orange thorax stand out as it climbs delicately along a curved twig. Despite its tiny size, this beetle can cause severe skin irritation if crushed, making it both beautiful and dangerous.

Distraction As The Survival Tool -

If David Copperfield can vanish the Statue of Liberty, so can caterpillars become an illusionist. My lens peered half-heatedly at the gummy stuck on a leaf and to my surprise, the carroty jelly is a little worm in disguise. Flavorsome licorice in the middle and piquant tangerine on both sides, I think highly of the deception he devised. The orange stands out and the black fits in, optical illusion gave him the opportunity to exist. Crawling slowly in the dead of night, he is confident he can get away. In total darkness, he vanished and divide into two. The spotted wood owl stood at the brink of confusion, not knowing which end to pick.

waited and waited for the breeze to still, which never happened - so i'll settle for the sharpest of the batch since i really liked how the long, angled stems complement the subject

Petit Mars Changeant (Apatura ilia) sur fèces canine au Moulin de Blanchy (Corrèze - Limousin).

A day in Clumber Park, what a great place for macro, I met a massive hornet for the first time and while I tried to dare and get close to take a few pic's, his friend another massive hornet sneaked into my coat, lucky I was able to scream loud enough to scare him away. ;))))

Growing up I always called these stink bugs and if mishandled, would usually be given a good dose of the smelly chemical produced by a gland on their abdomen. I’m sure this odor helps protect against predators and certainly would make me put them down. This particular individual was a constant visitor to the bramble bush in the field next door to my house. I really enjoyed photographing it.
