I've been trying to come up with some different lighting and colour techniques. This effect is not photoshopped in.

Orange milk dropped into water. Two Speedlites - one on a blue plastic sheet behind the pan of water, and one on the drop.

Check this one done by Ash. It's quite similar.

OBRIGADO!!!

I like bubble splashes

I thought I would try a few last night. I haven't had much time for Flickr lately.

Time to catch up a bit now.

Playing when I should be doing a number of other things :-)

Again, these are done with two flash guns with coloured gels on the sides and a third one with a red gel, operated manually to get the second exposure. You can see on the red one where the stray drop has formed a hollow in the centre of the splash.

I'm listening to that song in continuous loop at the moment :D

I'm currently trying to shoot jumping spiders - Unfortunately these little guys are pretty shy and extremely fast :D Furthermore my camera setup is insane to get a picture at 3:1 so I decided to buy a reverse ring mount for my wide-angle lens. Hopefully the spiders will be still there when it'll arrive, so I can upload a photo of them yet again this year.

If not, then you'll definitely get a picture of those little cuties next season! :)

If you haven't discovered the photostream of a friend - Tony - yet, then you should have a look at it now ;) -> www.flickr.com/photos/93077392@N04/

[v2 - 2014/01/27] Reduced Noise

[v3 - 2014/06/09] More brightness and contrast

There's a fair amount of work to get these. I have to control the cable release button with one hand and drop the cream with the other. The first few shots show too much detail in the plastic aquarium and after a couple more like these the water is too cloudy. Then the water has to be changed and the aquarium cleaned out. After it is filled with water again I have to wipe away the tiny bubbles to get a fairly clean image. A pleasing end result, though. I'm fascinated with all the various patterns.

3 more in comments. These are all one splash shots in one frame. I operated one flash gun manually to get a double exposure. In all of these the multi-coloured splash is the main one and the other is milliseconds before or after. In this one the manually controlled flash caught the drop just before it disappeared in the water. It's interesting to see how a splash develops.
