OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Singapore, Venus Drive, dragonfly

Spotted this little fella during my macro shoot yesterday at Hunter Botanical Gardens (Heatherbrae, NSW; Australia).

Macro really makes you observe the world in much closer detail!

It's amazing how easy it is to just focus on things at a more distant range and miss on seeing a whole different world surrounding us!!

Thanks for viewing, commenting or adding to favorites - much appreciated!

while taking a picture of this spider, a honey bee came along to get in the shot too :-)

Up Close and Personal

This is one of my all time favorite capture of these guys.

Found at Kettle Moraine State Forest - Southern Unit. Waukesha County, Wisconsin, USA.

Single exposure, uncropped, handheld, in situ. Canon MT-24EX flash unit, Ian McConnachie diffuser.

Not many insects around at this time of the year (it is mid-winter in Sydney) so this assassin bug was a welcome visitor (at least for a macro photographer).

If you are having your photo taken, you must have a clean antenna!

This is just a really gross looking insect.

unidentified Hymenoptera

Love the colors in this one a lot. The plant and bee seem to compliment each other imo.

Hope the center lightening isn't over the top here. Just wanted it to look more how I saw it as I shot it. Cute one!

Found this bee in the mid-morning hanging upside down cleaning itself in my flower pot.

Must have been there for about 4 mins just preening itself.

Then it flew off straight at my head.. lol.

Yesterday morning, as soon as I opened my back door, I saw this wheel bug on my banister. I couldn't believe it. I mean, I really couldn't believe it. I'd been searching for one of these things for months. No lie.

In April I'd posted a photo of the microscopic wheel bug eggs my son had found on a tree branch. We had no idea what they were, so we had to do the research. Then, in June and in August I'd posted photos of wheel bugs just as they'd "hatched." But I never saw one fully grown, until yesterday.

By the way, these guys are good garden insects: they kill other insects that nibble at garden plants. I'd just never heard of them before, and I really wanted to see one for myself. I wasn't the only one: we were all on the lookout for this bizarre looking bug.

I think this is a bumblebee, but it's all black, so at first I thought it was a beetle. There was a small swarm of them feeding on wisteria nectar.
