Cleaning up my stores of pictures I stumbled upon my old collections of ant macros from June. I decided to finish one of the two of them today and here is a few shots.

Vielen Dank allen, die bei der Identifizierung geholfen haben!

Suddenly these flies are everywhere. Lots of detail in this macro taken using the camera's onboard flash.

For a number of years, I've been taking macros with a screw-on "poor man's macro" lens. Well, I've just splurged on an actual Nikon lens. After it arrived by UPS yesterday, and before it got dark outside, I took it out for a test drive.

Now I'll read the directions!

Chrysididae sp. Any suggestions?

I don't normally get this close to wasps except early in the morning when they are more lethargic. This one was about 3 inches from the front of my lens & then I did a pretty sever crop in post.....

Nikonos V, 35mm lens, 1:1 extension tube, SB-105

So I needed to make something today.. I started off quite ambitious and then quickly turned to making a $2.50 extension tube so I could take some macro shots.

Next to figure out some lighting that doesn't give me flare...

Suspect this little guy was not actually living, but tried not to disturb anyway...

Coenosia sp. with bigger (!) mosquito prey.

One of a set of anaglyph macros I shot of bumblebees in my garden. Shot with a Nikon D200 and a de Wijs stereo macro lens. Post-processed into anglyphs using Photohop.

You'll need red/cyan 3D glasses to view this image properly.
