So majestic.

Indian peafowl (Pavo cristatus)

Also known as the Black-Veined White, this species is often found in meadows and forest edges. Its delicately veined wings are a marvel of nature, showcasing the richness of our biodiversity.

I was fortunate to observe this specimen during a morning walk. The rising sunlight created an enchanting ambiance, highlighting the transparency of the butterfly's wings. The moment was magical and reminded me of the importance of preserving these beautiful creatures for future generations.

🔍 In your opinion, what are the best practices to protect butterfly habitats like those of the Black-veined White?

Seen this little fella while at Clifton Grove Local Nature Reserve, Nottinghamshire.

It is one of the commonest garden butterflies, found throughout lowland England and Wales with a wingspan of 63mm. It's unmistakable, with quite spectacular eyes on the upperside of the hindwings that give this butterfly its name. These eyes must appear very threatening to predators, such as mice, that confront this butterfly head-on, where the body forming a "beak".

Recently visited Oldmoor Wood, Nottinghamshire. Oldmoor Wood is a woodland in Nottinghamshire, near the village of Strelley. It covers a total area of 15.11 hectares. It is owned and managed by The Woodland Trust.

I went primarily for the beautiful Bluebells. There is a mix of Native and Spanish Bluebells.

Native Bluebells are protected in the UK under the Wildlife and Countryside Act, 1981.

How to tell the difference.

English Bluebells: Flowers on one side of the stem.

Spanish Bluebells: Flowers all around the stem.
