Ashover Rock, (a local nature reserve) also known as The Fabrick (as seen on my photo) which said to come from stone quarried here, some used in the construction of Ashover Church. Land left in trust for church purposes was often called fabrick land because it provided material or revenue ‘ad fabricam reparandam’.

From here, on a good day, you can see the distant Crooked Spire of Chesterfield, Bolsover Castle, Hardwick Hall, some suburbs of the South Yorkshire city of Sheffield, the surrounding counties of Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire, Staffordshire.

The Fabrick is often misspelled.

Fabric, Faebric, Faybrick are just a few examples. Usually because of their inability to spell words, presume it's material or simply that their spell checker is not aware of the actual spelling of this local nature reserve and the person never bothered to proof read the information.

I seen somewhere that it was named, incorrectly, "Fabrick Rock".

Locals to the area pronounce Ashover as Asher, so 'Asher Rock' gets banded about.

My much loved Nexus smartphone is about average in battery life. So, a few days ago, a 5000 mAh battery pack arrived from eBay. Although it appears quite large in the macro capture above, the battery is similar in size and weight to my phone.

Charging up from about 60%, I can get 4 to 5 charges from the battery pack. In terms of photography, batteries are kind of a boring subject, and I tried make the above image visually interesting.

Happy Macro Monday!

Another visit to the National Trust's Clumber Park, Worksop, Nottinghamshire. I ventured into the woodland. It was cold, damp, with some rainfall from time to time.

I found this Common Ghost Crab (Ocypode cordimanna) right at the top of a low dune. Having been surprised too far from its hole in the sand, it decided to play dead, which suited me just fine for some macro captures. It's about 75mm across.
