Belated HNY greetings friends !

Sorry for my absence and lack of input on your posts - losing one's photo mojo after my mother passed away and a Christmas infection laid me low, required finding a new toy to play with to invigorate it again!

Using a cheapish Neewer NW-14EXT Macro Ring Lite set at a power output of 1/128th, and holding the flash off-the-lens on manual mode at f1.8 provided me with some reasonable macro captures.

A degree of trial and error is required to achieve a decent exposure, but shooting in raw provided more latitude for post-image adjustments. I had thought this type of flash would be a bit of an image killer, resulting in rather bland even lighting, but used experimentally, and at an effective angle, the results have been rather pleasing.

I used three extension tube rings, coupled with my AF Nikkor 50mm f1.8D to make the shot, hand held.

The patterns & forms that can be found in nature often appear to be from another world when looked at up close. With some creative color enhancements and cropping adjustments, this close up photograph creates that sense of the unknown. Perhaps this is the surface of a yet-to-be visited planet? Or is it possibly a macro capture of some rust spotted on a forgotten car.

Actually this abstract image comes as the result of a photograph I took in Oklahoma last year. The original picture is of some heavily textured tree bark, covered in lichen. The shadows and the flow have that organic character and sense of depth that only nature can provide.

Comments and constructive feedback are always appreciated!

Took this at The National Trust's Hardwick Hall Park, Derbyshire. Not sure what it is. Never seen anything like it. It was on the stem of a reed in the water. It's about 3cm in length and 1.5cm in width.

Perhaps its some kind of fungi?

There were no others the same around.

How Bizarre!

Anyone out there know what it is?

The undergrowth across this stretch of land is purely slack from coal waste many years ago, now exposed due to land erosion over time. Mother Nature claiming it back. Not sure what the tree is but here you can see an exposed root with a sprig grasping onto sunlight casting a shadow.

As the years pass, yet memories prevail, naturally ageing stone holds strong to mark a life loved.

It's 'Fern Watch' once again. Another few days on and incremental changes are happening of course. Close up at this stage the leaves resemble pin head size grapes covered in cobwebs. Truly fascinating :)

A fern is a member of a group of vascular plants that reproduce via spores and have neither seeds nor flowers. They differ from mosses by being vascular, i.e., having specialised tissues that conduct water and nutrients and in having life cycles in which the sporophyte is the dominant phase.

I wasn't sure what this plant was until I looked it up...I believe it's called an Oenanthe Crocata aka Hemlock Water-dropwort. Anyone else think that's quite an ugly name?! That's my one new thing I've learnt today 👍

Macro capture of a unique, strange looking flower shot in downtown Colorado Springs. Lightly post-processed using Snapseed for Android.

Another from my garden. Perhaps my favourite flower. A burst of sunshine yellow to add to the colourful fauna at this time of year!

The perennial Rudbeckia fulgida var. sullivantii ‘Goldsturm’. You may know it with another name, Coneflowers, Asteraceae, Black Eyed Susans, Rudbeckia Fulgida, Goldsturm.

Captured this at the RBG this past weekend. It was cool so it stayed put which was great. The sky was a little overcast which concerned me as sun usually adds impact. Got this up on the computer and got a great surprise. Zoom in on its shiny head and you will see me reflecting back at you....awesome.
