1 2 0 film {April 1 // 94}

• home, nyc

I finished my Holga colour film and finally got them developed. For some reason, only 6 of the 12 picture actually worked - there was a chunk of blank ones in the middle. Not sure why that is (actually it may be due to the X - R A Y detector act work that we have to place our bags into). Regardless, I'm happy with the results, in fact I'm beyond happy with them. They have feeling and magic; I love them for that reason. I now have put black and white film into my Holga. I can't wait to see what magic it produces minus the x-ray machine this time around of course.

Ethnographic village Etar. This was the local spinning mill, operated by this lady and utilising only water to drive the ancient spinning machines. This was a small place and the noise the machines made was very loud.

A Spanish Civil War Enigma Machine. This is a early example of the machine and is a modified commercial machine.

Plenty of holes ensure a good solid distribution of vacuum and air flow.

Here we see a quick initial test run to check for solid vacuum pull and leaks. The vacuum holds the plastic wrap against the fixture which, in turn, holds the aluminum can.

Thermal Vacuum Plastic Forming machine (Vacuuforming) custom built for a client who needed to rapidly tool up some parts for his customers. This works by warming up plastic in the oven until it is flexible, then placing the plastic over a mold affixed to this machine. This machine will pull a vacum and suck the plastic against the mold before it hardens, thereby creating the part you want.

Our Maker Art class created a Time Machine this year, inviting you to travel through time from the age of dinosaurs to the 50th century.

Our 4th and 5th graders at the Lycée Français designed their own scenes from the past, present or future, and brought them to life with motion, lights and sounds. They also worked in teams to build interactive features like illuminated keypads, spinners and doors, using the popular Arduino platform.

In our after-school classes, we combine art, technology and storytelling to help children create their own magical worlds. They learn to design their ideas, build them with a variety of tools, animate them with electronics and tell their stories. This unique multimedia course helps them develop their creativity, collaboration and problem-solving skills -- and builds their confidence that they can help change the world.

This year, we had a really good group of 9 students, ages 8 to 11 -- many of whom had taken our Maker Art classes before. They were very creative and engaged, and did a great job presenting their work at the Lycée Français -- and at Marinovators at the College of Marin on April 22.

This Maker Art class was taught by Fabrice Florin and Edward Janne at the Lycée Français in Sausalito in winter 2017. We met every week for 12 workshops of 90 minutes each, Thursdays at 3:30pm, from January 5 to March 30, 2017. Our teachers are part of the Tam Makers learning community and we prepared materials for this project in our state-of-the-art makerspace at the nearby Tam High School.

JOINT BASE ELMENDORF-RICHARDSON, Alaska -- U.S. Marines assigned to Delta Company, 4th Law Enforcement Battalion, deliver toys to children living in remote villages of Alaska as part of the Toys for Tots program, Dec. 8. So I designed these adjustable pin cushions for sewers who can't stand the hard plastic one sold in stores. Also if you're like me and don't have room around your machine this will help.

Oh yeah and if you don't sew these are still cool to rock out on your wrist!

The band that goes around your wrist has velcro to adjust. It's made out of vinyl and felt. In the middle is another strip of velcro for your owl so if you want to take it off and place it near your sewing machine or project. The vinyl is tan and the backing felt is brown

So speaking of the little owl it's stuffed and made out of hunter green, brown, and mustard felt. I've also sewn on pretty sequins for eyes.

Along with your new hip wrist pin cushion I've poked it w/ four colorful pins in yellow and green.

The measurements of the band is 9 1/2 inches in length by 3 inches wide. Also they are very soft and comfortable.

For centuries, the old town of Veprinac has watched over Kvarner, and passing through the city gates opens a door onto the historical path of this region like a time machine. This path leads next to the Church of St. Anne, where more than 500 years ago, one of the most important legal documents in this area, the Veprinac Statute, was written. Nearby, it is possible to see Komunšćica, a former administrative building and prison, where an ethno collection is now kept. A few hundred steps up the stone staircase is all it takes to reach the lookout spot, in front of the majestic Church of St. Mark, which overlooks the entire bay.

However, Veprinac is not just a history-book of the whole region, but also a live stage where performances of vocal groups - or klape - and folk festivals take place as well as where you can taste local specialties and wines. With well-maintained promenades connected to the centre of Opatija and the peak of Učka, Veprinac is perfect for all generations.

my sister gave be a mini spin art machine :) this was my first attempt. i'm happy with the way it came out.

A spoil board is sacrificial material that’s used underneath the material you want to cut on a CNC machine. This ensures a better through cut and is usually MDF. I’ve noticed that when the spoil boards are all used up at ITP, some really amazing patterns are formed.

AS they were leaving the Toowoomba Showgrounds in Glenvale, heading where ever it is they head. Noted some new machines this year.

The tender requires new brake 'pins' which hold the top of the brake hangers in position. These are mounted in holes between the outer and inner frame of the chassis, and have a 'gallery' for grease lubrication of the main bearing area where the brake hanger sits on the pin. Here we see the 2nd of 6 pins having the head flatted-off on the vertical milling machine (this being where the clamp that secures the pin in place locates).

This unique telephone kiosk on Church Street, Frodsham is a rare example of one of only 50 K4's ever produced. There are believed to be only four still publicly in use throughout the UK. Introduced in the late 1920's and designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott, "The Vermillion Giant" incorporated a post box and stamp-dispensing machine. This box is Grade II listed.

As you can see what a key-chopper can do to a special machine. This is the Royal Arrow with the serial # C851693, made in 1939. This was $13.50 and now you know why. What I don't understand why they do this? For some cheap jewelry! If you have some black & white plastic key-tops let me know because those 1950's green & white key-tops don't look too good on this classic.

The deserted ferry terminal under the iconic Ferry Building on an unusually warm San Francisco late evening.

Golden Gate Ferry serves Larkspur and Sausalito, California in Marin County and the San Francisco Ferry Building, Friday, July 8 2011, marks the last day that ticket offices will be open for regular hours at the San Francisco ferry terminals. All Golden Gate Ferry tickets will now be purchased though the district’s new automatic vending machines. This is brought by cost saving measures by the City to lay off all ticket vendors, hoping to save millions of dollars per year.

Alex gets connected at UQ. Unlike the US, Internet use is on a pretty tight lock down here- even at the Universities. In order to get visitor access, you need to register with an ID, and your bandwidth has a limit. Extra data cards can be purchased in vending machines. (This is from yesterday after our drink at Pinapple Hotel.)

Based on the terrible condition of the outer receipts of this roll, it would certainly explain why some of my receipts I get from banking machines are often pre-ripped when I use President's Choice Financial bank machines. This was found on top the automated banking machine from President's Choice Financial at the Real Canadian Superstore located at 2901 8th Street East.

Big Helpers Power Shovels, Trucks, Derricks, Power Rollers A Rand McNally Junior Elf Book

Written by Irma Wilde

Illustrated by George Wilde

Rand McNally, 1953

32 Pp.

Small hardcover

Where would we be without massive machines? This cute little book shows all kinds of machines and their uses!

I’m very proud to finally share my completed Obi-Wan saber. I machined this over the course of a year, fitting it in between life and work!

Apart from a Graflex clamp from @krsabers and bubble strip from @therealwannawanga, everything was made by me.

The components are aluminium, which I had anodised black. The neck assembly is brass with a 3D printed vane insert, and the pommel is hand-polished aluminium rather than chromed plastic as the original prop was. Cotter pins, D-ring and screws are all vintage, even if they aren’t 100% accurate.

I based this hilt mostly on the “Chronicles” saber, which refers to photographs of the prop as it appeared post-production. It’s more beaten up than its on-screen appearance, but I love the botched repairs with screw and pins.

Weathering was done both pre and post anodising, with lots of aluminium blackener from Birchwood Casey used to give a convincing gunmetal tone. Rust was done with acrylics, sealed with Hycote matte lacquer so that the prop can withstand handling.

This build was a fun technical challenge- but thankfully the final thing is so bashed up that it’s forgiving on any of my bad machining!

The tripping arm extension is needed when using the Forma Garment Charting Accessory, as the unit sits farther back from the carriages due to the placement of the Motor Drive.
